Machiavelli was a disappointed idealist. He was a proponent of the Florentine Republic and was tortured for his beliefs. He saw that humans act in ways that were and are not in accordance with what they preach. He simply held up a mirror to society and that society didn’t (and still doesn't) like it.

I agree with you! More than anything else "The Prince" represents a scathing yet honest observation of key aspects of human nature! Personally I love philosophy especially ones that are similar to Neoplatonism, but have come to understand some years ago that while high virtues are idolized in the collective human psyche (as seen with religions, superheroes etc.), it is more often times than not those who are most willing to employ Machiavellian tactics that reach the highest rungs of society! Humanity as a whole and especially a small demographic of humanity can develop an extreme desire to have POWER, usually more so as an ends within itself rather than as a means to achieving something greater than the desire itself! When you mix this in with pride, selfishness, greed, cunning, manipulative etc. It means that there will probably never truly be peace on Earth unless something extraordinary takes place within humanity, to facilitate some sort of universal harmony.

To me, being a pessimist about the world is exactly why one might become an optimist about Spirit. In the video, it noted that Jesus was a practical failure… But that’s the whole point of spirituality. It’s not about succeeding in the world, it’s about overcoming the world spiritually. It’s a huge paradigm shift, but very much in keeping with our modern notions of simulation theory or the matrix. Once you realize, spiritually or consciously speaking, that the world is a kind of dream or simulation, then pessimism, suffering, and dispassion become the fuel for awakening.

The hardest part of virtue and truth is that it is unprofitable in the world. If you choose virtue and goodness you will likely loose at this life - because the wickedness of the world hates virtue and rewards the selfish. That's a weak and unproductive excuse for not pursuing virtue. Virtue is not at all unprofitable. It only makes the road to profit harder, but that's why it's a virtue. If virtue was easy we wouldn't be talking about it. Secondly, I assume you are talking about material profit or power or any of the other overvalued material aspects of our modern world, but if you broaden your scope there's plenty of areas in life where being virtuous is hugely profitable.

The point is, if you're willing to be pragmatic for the (actual) greater good, then yes you have to break rules, commit evil, etc. Psychos and Narcissists will always have the advantage because they operate this way (but without pursuing anything 'good'). If you want to compete, you have to be able to work on their level. It requires a reworking of your internal beliefs. You can still have good values, but you have to change how to see the acquisition of the outcomes pursued by those values. You can't see everything as A to B transactional - you better plan beyond Z like it's 4D Chess.

Machiavelli's work reminds me of the effect of findings in evolutionary psychology have on the average person. When our true nature is shown, and the illusion of our grandeur completed destroyed people get emotionally upset. When there are direct parallels between how a human and pack rat act, or suggest we have a common ancestor with a poop flinging chimpanzee it's a massive blow to our ego and some people cannot handle it. I think Machiavelli is a chaotic neutral, he's objective and the only side he's on is himself. He introduces chaos or anarchy for his own amusement. The only intent for his work is the process itself, like an artist that destroys his pieces right after they've been completed.

The problem with Machiavellianism in its pure form is that you make so many enemies climbing over bodies to get to the top, that you have an army of people who are looking for any chance to depose you and will work in concert to do so. What's more, the people you stepped upon on your way to the top will be the same people you meet on your way down. This is why most tyrannical leaders don't die of old age. Even Stalin's death was oddly timed before his purge of the doctors and scientists in the Soviet Union. His official cause of death would always be ruled "natural" but he had random deadly seizure in the middle of the night that nobody attended to? On the eve of a huge purge that would've destroyed the USSR and Russia for generations. The people around Stalin knew that if they got rid of all their scientists and doctors, they'd destroy themselves. How do we infer this motive for regicide existed? Because after Stalin died, the purges were immediately canceled. When a long-planned program is canceled the day after the leader dies, it's obvious that those who took power also wanted it canceled before the leader died.
@SovietBelka
@SovietBelka 8 күн бұрын
Stalin wasn't trying to purge all doctors and scientists. That's just Western jewish propaganda. As a matter of fact, it was the Communist Party of USSR whose education reforms helped to turn the illiterate population of USSR into 99% literate populace. Out of these masses, all these doctors, engineers, and scientists came from. That's why Russians were first in space and first in my other fields and still are. So stop spreading disinformation and lies.

i think this is a product of determinism ultimately. because essentially everything objective is also arbitrary. there is no "purpose" to amoral objectivity. its nothing more than observation and even bugs do observation. observation alone is irrelevant at larger scales. you must attach Morality to any endeavor or the endeavor has no point. If we are not striving to solve moral problems and orchestrate the future in accordance to moral values, then there is no point in any action whatsoever, and that means it can not be "effective" if it is simply pointless. Thus morality is strictly required to create "effectiveness" or "purpose" as morality is the subjective variable that gives value or meaning to any action or thought.

Honesty in "The Prince" shines through every page, and every seeker of power, command and dominion should read this cold, heartless yet logical, treatise on rule and governance. I think the title is a little misleading as you can apply the "blueprints" to the common man and society just as well. For those not power crazy it's still a great read, epecially if you desire to be noble, good, and most all, effective.

I only read/write English. So I can't get a feeling for if Machiavelli was being ironic / sarcastic. As he was addressing someone who'd sacked, this is a possibility I think. (Saying that someone should be feared rather than liked seems to have many resonances.)

Machiavellism is closely associated with psychopathy. I believe this all leads to a strong thirst for power and an inability to share said power with anyone else. Because to do so would require them to be vulnerable which they want to hide from others but mostly from themselves

11:56 I heard this described as a one sided contract. One person holds another person to some expectation, without the other person having agreed to or even knowing about the expectation. I forget the exact name they used, but it’s very common. Just think about all the expectations you have of others that they don’t know about and/or haven’t agreed to. Or them of you.

perhaps because at its core, communication is misunderstood and misguided. to communicate, words,and pictures, depicted in various forms. for what purpose?.. not what we want it to be,what is it inherently with no man to manage it nor god to describe it? what am i doing? what did you do? exist,and scream into the void of life, and then we wait for nothingness to scream back. regardless how we communicate, what or when, we can't force discourse and harmony, we can only scream to nothing and see if nothing screams back at us. some few have long understood, words are meaningless lest we let them,for something so easily lost and forgotten we place such meaning on them, and yet we scream ceaselessly. for you?,no, me ?no ,speak not and live not for others, do so for yourself and the world. waste not worthless words,simply wonder aloud,wander about, fill the void with noise,and wait for the dead echos of chaos. words of men detached from others isn't for most, only those looking will find whatsoever they seek.

Love is the greatest tool used today, distilled in money, materialism, sins of the flesh, sins of pride, sins of gluttony, etc. We are human acting in an intrest that is not our own, because we have been taught that the other is right. Machiavelly’s work is more than relevant today than it has ever been. Relevant to lift the veil of this somber entity that has us all trapped, willingly.

I think your solution is really good, simple yet effective. Wano has a huge issue with sidelining side characters like Usopp, Brook, Nami, Chopper etc. It would’ve been so interesting seeing the weaker strawhats try to defend Luffy against Kaido. We all know that they are no match for Kaido but seeing how long they could last is high stakes, something which we would all later see in Egghead which is one of the best arcs in the New World 🔥

Love Can be instilled by being a good Leader, and by caring for YOUR men, and loving Them, they Will love you in return! It is better to be loved than feared! Though, if you wish to maximize power, it is best to be both! And fear eventually leads to resentment and hatred, wich leads to rebellion, and thus the end of YOUR reign!

Philosophy is subjective. My stance today is that any book you read, or any information you take in, is not your own. You need to interpret the world on your own. Searching for meaning when there isnt any meaning is just plain stupid. Just work, keep your mouth shut, build your dream home (can even be a tent), dont waste time trying to understand people. Everyone (99 percent) want to suck your resources (that includes time, not just $ or things of value).
