In every sector, stakeholders play a critical role. As Dangote ventures into the petroleum business, it's imperative that he actively engages these stakeholders to ensure his success in the petroleum pump market. Unlike the cement industry, where he established significant control, he cannot dominate this new market simply by setting his own prices. If marketers find more competitive prices elsewhere, they will undoubtedly choose to work with those alternatives. The petroleum sector is unique and requires a comprehensive understanding of various factors beyond what was necessary in cement.

Dangote Refinery is in business to make money so also are the independent marketers that includes NNPCL. They are all potential customers to the refinery, therefore, it is the duty and responsibility of Dangote to reach out for them because they have the option of importing the same product into the country if the price is right. The downstream deregulation of the downstream oil sector allows the independent markers to import products as they wish. Dangote cannot tell the marketers to stop importing fuel because he has more than enough in storage, he has to appeal to them by enticing them with favorable prices and conditions. He cannot stop them because they are the customers.

I am sorry Uncle Jide, but I don't buy your argument. Even if texas crude itself is cheaper, the marketers are not importing crude, but refined PMS. How could imported PMS with the FX Volatility, landing costs, etc, possibly be cheaper on the whole than Dangote's locally refined PMS? If this is truly the case, something is horrible wrong. It would mean that the Federal Government is not giving Dangote enough support to ensure that his prices are competitive. We must be patriotic in this country.

No one should be fooled in the whole drama! One mistake Nigeria should not make is to allow Dangote to dictate the stoppage of fuel coming in from any other source, imported or wherever! Where did we find our self with trick that made government stop cement from any other source than Dangote, is he not enjoying the monopoly and we still struggle with the high cost of cement till tomorrow. Until probably when we have more private refineries dangote shouldn't be allowed to dictate to government to ban importation of fuel which could be cheaper than that of dangote! Forget the argument in favour of protecting the local industry or employment! It is all in the name of personal gains nothing in the interest of Nigerias

Our oil is expensive because it is easier to refine. Be that as it may, Dangote has the capacity to sell at 400 naira per liter but, he can't because the NNPCL is responsible for fixing the price. He can't sell as he pleases else, they won't give him crude.

You are either incredibly uninformed or incredibly biased. Deriving multiple products from crude including by-products doesn't increase total volume; it requires trade-offs between products. Refiners must carefully allocate resources to meet market needs. Secondly, there are about 13 small modular refineries like Walter Smith, Azikel, OPAC etc that are already fully operational in Nigeria. Additionally, there are two other large refineries currently under construction, the 200,000 bpd in Akwa Ibom by BUA, and the 100,000 bpd in Lagos by Mid Oil. So what do you mean by monopoly?

Let them continue to inflict pain on themselves, later, they will see how to resolve in cutting down their selfish price tag for personal benefits. Once the local producers and importers begin to compete, they will spoil market for themselves in the masses favour.
