In this video I head across the boarder to Cornwall in England to spend that day with my Brother Paul Hendriksen who is a PGA Professional himself.
Paul has a big announcement to make, but I also wanted to introduce Paul to you on the channel as I'm sure he will be a feature going forward on the channel.
Paul has won some big events during his career which include the 2015 PGA & 2019 English PGA Championships.
As we play our way around St.Mellion we discuss our memories of playing the Championship course over the years and the events that have been played at the Club.

I played St Mellion in 1990 the day after Olazabal won the B&H off the back tees. I was 2 under with 2 to play and finished double double for a 74! Best round I’ve ever played with 6 birdies and have been in love with course ever since ❤️

Great Vlog and really enjoyed the insight from your brother regarding percentages. Went to the B&H when Steve won and remember home hitting it all over the place off the tee but as ever scrambling brilliantly. Great getting up close and personal with the great man helping to look for his ball in another bush !! I think this was also when I saw one of those moments that doesn’t just happen to us amateurs. The South African Wayne Westner had a 3-4 inch putt that he tried to tap in from the opposite side of the hole. Hit the ball on the head which moved it less than an inch and had to walk round and tap it in properly. Probably cost him a few quid rather than just the beers with his mates !!

Morning Dan! What a fantastic video again! Two weeks ago the PGA Tour played the RBC Heritage Tournament with the most best players of the world.... and former winner. I saw Bernhard Langer playing in this tournament - 62 years old with this young, strong and fit young players like McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Ricky Fowler and others. He made the cut souverän, played till the second nine holes of the third round in the top of the leaderboard and finished in the middel of the competition at the end. And watching him I thought about the past when I was a young man - and it is as you and your brother is telling. I thought about Langers tee shots he made on my home course, home of a great tournament like St Mellion was. And I always tried to bring the ball in the same spot when I stood on the tee. I saw Sandy Lyle playing a Par 5 540 with two times iron 1, saw him making a 200 shot out of the knee high gras over water making on the green and saw Tiger shooting out of a deep fairway bunker with a 6 iron dead on the 210 away placed flag. All of them was amazing, all of them is a stuff I still think more than 20 years about witrh a smile in my face. If I see Bernhard Langer, than I know he is not the longest guy, maybe like I do or like you do Dan. But I see his course managment, see where he is loosing the green i anf he does - always at a spot he has a good chance for a up and down. But he is making not really one bad shot on his round and with this game he is still 25 years later as a "old" man good enough to compete with this young guys. Ballesteros, Langer, Faldo are all born in the same year, and all of them became a great champion. ZThey had a overview who many young player never will get. In modern times everybody is looking for distance, but not hao to play a course in the way your brothers tell us: Deamge limiting for exampel! I hope Paul will take the spirit of this old generation of golfers in his start on the european tour and will make the cut as Langer did on the PGA Tour. I think Dan will show him sometimes the way he has to play, and at the end he Paul will make a good finish. He plays a old driver, not the newest technic you can buy for money. Bernhard Langer plays (as I know?) a 20 year old iron made by hogan for exampel. All the other pros on yt need every year new drivers and clubs, but they play at the and a 85 on a pro Am.... Gold is more than equipment, more than players ego, more than hitting a long drive! And you, Dan, shows us all this! Thanks therefor! You should know: I also like Matt Fryer watching, he also is a serious golfer without Ego. Maybe you will play somedays with him, I would like to watch this. Stay healthy!

What a lovely lad Paul is... I am sure he's delighted and very proud at his invite from Keith Pelley to attend the English open at the Forest of Arden... Then again someone has to serve the coffees for the tour players and polish their shoes!!! Suppose it's a day out!!!! I'm sure L Westwood, T Fleetwood, M Fitzpatrick, J Rahm, R Mcilroy are all quaking in their boots at the thought of facing Paul as he's beat Gary Wolstenholme... That superstar who in 2008 finished 150th in the US open and also had a mind blowing high finish in the open in 2003 finishing 122nd... Good luck in the comp anyhow....:)

I played the Nicklaus last year and had 34 points of 7!!! With a few bad mistakes too!! 3 putted on the par 5 on (amen corner) I drove the ball the best I think I ever have and that's why I shot why I did. Such a tricky course

Good vlog of my old golf course. I was a member here for 13 years until I gave the game up at 26, just fell out of love with the game unfortunately. I had a great time here, we had a great junior section, great memories and a great craic, was so lucky to of lived a few miles from here and spent most of my time playing golf, squash, in the gym and messing about in the pool. Competitions representing the club were always great days, CTC events and my old foursomes partner was Adam Frayne, now a pro at Yelverton, I must of played the Nicklaus course hundreds of times, such a tough course. I always went to the Benson and Hedges and remember Colin Mongomerie whinging about how hard the course was after he shot 86, thought he was going to cry! I was also on the first tee, as Paul mentions regarding Bernard Langers tee shot off the first, a stunning long low fade, what a ball striker, I was literally right behind him. The best shot I saw was Jose Maria Olazabal second shot from the fairway bunker on 18, he hit a four iron to six inches for a birdie. I guess my claim to fame was being Jack Nicklaus ball spotter for two years when the St Mellion trophy was held and shown live on Grandstand!! The first year in 88, the weather was awful, lashing down with rain, windy and heavy mist and Jack was making me run all over the course looking for his ball. On the 10th he was in the stream by the green and did not play out the hole, so I jumped into the stream and gave him his ball, in turn he gave it to me and I still have it, a Titleist balata 90 compression lol. On the 12th the weather became that bad that Jack carved his tee shot into the ditch running along side of the fairway, I sprinted across the fairway and slipped and slid 7ft down into the ditch, at this moment the TV cameras captured everything and I popped up laughing my head off, I was soaked to the skin from the weather and the fact I slid into the ditch which was full of water. Peter Allis and Alex Hay were laughing in the commentary box but I found Jacks ball! I had to carry these huge like table tennis bats that were about two and a half feet wide with 'Nicklaus' on so the TV cameras could spot us. The weather by the 18th had become ridiculous, the rain was heavier still and the ducks were all over the green, Nick Faldo was running around trying to get rid of them but they were running rings around him!! Crazy scenes!! Jack came up to me after the round and thanked me for my help and opologised for making me run to all parts of the course and ditches I did not think existed, he was a class act. The following year for the trophy it was one of the hottest days on record and really show cased what a great course the Nicklaus course is and the incident of the round was Jack's shank on the 11th, poor Jack he was embarrassed and blamed it on a sandwich he had just eaten lol. Again as his ball spotter and a keen 15 year old iI sprinted off to find it but it was long gone. Nicklaus and Watson lost to Faldo and Lyle in both years. After twenty years I have decided to play golf again and played the Nicklaus course three weeks ago and to my surprise I played pretty well, especially as my clubs were from 1997, (Taylor made, tour burner irons, Mizuno T-zoid Woods and an old Ping anser putter lol ) it bought back some wonderful memories. Luckily I was a low handicapper when I quit so you never loose the ability to hit a ball, i even beat Mongomeries score all be it from the day tees lol!! Sorry for the long post but seeing this made me realise how lucky I was growing up on this course, some of the best days of my childhood was spent here.... Until I discovered lager, nightclubs and women then golf became a distant memory lol If you have not played this course then do, it's a great experience and who knows you may find one of Jack's balls!!!
