Dani California - Lexington Lab Band

The Lab Band tackles the American funk rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers with our 23rd episode. The Chili Peppers formed in Los Angeles in 1983 and have dominated alternative rock radio and garnered six grammy awards over the last 35 years. With albums like Mothers Milk to Stadium Arcadium the line up of Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and John Frusciante have sold over 80 million records worldwide and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. Joining the Lab Band to pay tribute to this iconic band are Sam Jones (guitar/vocals), Nick Bernard (bass) and Aaron Collins (guitar). We chose 5 songs that we believe highlight the funk, punk and psychedelic rock of the Peppers and hope you enjoy these covers as much as we enjoyed playing them. I'm sure you guys would do an amazing job covering such Allman Brothers classics as Statesboro Blues, Midnight Rider, Rambling Man, One Way Out, Jessica and Melissa. ( and Whipping Post) But really anything you guys choose to play would be fine. The great thing about your group is that you do impeccable covers of bands I hadn't even considered , the RHCP being a prime example. Another the Huey Lewis and the News songs. I think it would also be interesting if you guys did a video about how you decide which tunes to cover and what goes into recording and production. Then again perhaps that's something you would rather keep to yourselves . Anyway thanks so much. In the wasteland of what passes for commercial radio these days, you guys are my go to source for great music!

I really didn't listen closely to these when they came out because I had switched to country music by the time the RHCP were a thing. But wow... This trio of guests is phenomenal. Talent and discipline just oozes from the lead singer/guitarist.
