I was in high school and surfing the beaches of Southern California when The Beach Boys started releasing songs about the life we were leading. They were the perfect soundtrack to grow up to, and their songs were popular when the sun went down and we gathered around bonfires on the beach. They made kids of all ages, all over the States wish they could live the life their songs portrayed.

I always loved the Beach Boys, they had a sound and style that was truly unique. At a time when everyone and I mean EVERYONE wanted to look and sound like The Beatles, The Beach Boys were always fresh and new. No matter how many times I have heard their music over the years, it never EVER gets old.
@philippesauvie6393 жыл бұрын
The Beach Boys are the quintessential American band if you ask me. Genius! Genius so much that The Beatles envied the clarity of their music but never could get there. The album ‘Pet Sounds’ is a musical masterpiece! Love your take on the song Dani...surfs up!

the fact these songs are closer to 60 years old is amazing too..
@Blue-qr7qe3 жыл бұрын
So many of the 60's groups who feature harmonies drew so heavily from a duo of brothers whose harmonies were so distinct. They were the Everly Brothers. The Beatles, The Zombies, The Kinks, The Beach Boys, Crosby, Stills, and Nash and so many more have nsmed them as a strong influence and inspiration. PS If you ever do get a chance to learn to surf, DO IT. It will increase your soulfulness by a factor of 10.
@theccpisaparasite88132 жыл бұрын
Oh no, the Beach Boys initially drew from the doo wop style not the Everly's. They are in fact the pinnacle of the doo wop form. They do a great a capella version of the old Mystics tune "Hushabye". It couldn't be more apparent.
@davidschecter52473 жыл бұрын
Their voices and harmonies were unique and exquisite. Listen to "Add Some Music to Your day" from 1970's classic SUNFLOWER album. Or Brian Wilson's recent "From There to Back Again" from THAT'S WHY GOD MADE THE RADIO. Heavenly and so creative.

Hello @Dani Atkinson :) With the Beach Boys (the Golden era though Pet Sounds and "Good Vibrations" anyway), Brian's productions are everything. Crowd energy and screaming are fun (fun, fun), but the studio versions are infinitely superior :) A gorgeous yet semi-obscure gem you might want to check out: "Your Summer Dream" (1963 also from the 'Surfer Girl' album). Other reactors have creatively skirted copyright issues with the studio versions. I'm sure you can, too :)

@@dinodasbunce6224 there's a really good book by Beach Boys historian Jon Stebbins called Beach Boys FAQ. As I recall it has a lot of session details. Mostly everything up until Brian retired from touring is the band themselves but there are interesting instrument switches on certain tracks. For example, where Brian is playing keys on a track it was often Al who would play the bass part in the studio. I Get Around is one example of that off the top of my head!

@@DaniAtkinson The Four Freshmen formed in 1948 as a barbershop quartet but began doing jazz and pop standards in the 50s. They were very popular. Brian Wilson was a huge fan and stole their vocalizing and harmonizing style for the Beach Boys. Both groups were often indistinguishable from one another.
