Loll, I think it really comes down to the hours put in to learning. It doesn't matter though I found it's best to compare your own progress month after month because everyone (and everyone's game) is different. I've been using Unity for like 8 months now and I put in about 1,000 hours so far. The scary part is there is still so much more to learn. Good luck!

@@10k12-b7l If you're serious about it start tracking your progress, even if it's just as small as making a cube move. Most people give up before even starting. Keeping up motivation is a huge part of game dev. Especially indie where you often have to motivate yourself.

I also started learning unity half a year ago.. my games don't look this good yet Also a tip: make micro-games with 1 core mechanic to learn the engine, then eventually recycle all the assets for a newer, bigger project. Rinse and repeat.
@indieprogress71705 жыл бұрын
That's definitely a great tip. Even when models are created in AAA games they just redo the textures/skins and it looks like a whole different model. I wrote this in a comment above but You may think your Unity skills are not good, but if you compare your progress month after month or will really start to see the results. Huh, I, too, decided, that I want to learn Unity. Haven't started yet tho
@xueo3 жыл бұрын
did u start yet? its been 1 year
@netroalex52093 жыл бұрын
@@xueo I sorta did, sorta didn't - participated in a few game jams, had fun, but motivation left me. It's not that programming is that complicated and hard so that it's not fun doing it, I guess I'm just not used to working honestly sounds stupid but now that I think about it it's probably true. I'm used to the instant feedback like social media so if I don't get to play a finished game in maybe 4h I'm getting bored/frustrated and I'll stop doing stuff
@xueo3 жыл бұрын
@@netroalex5209 i agree with you to be honest. In some points coding can become pretty boring when it takes some time in my opinion. Ive started recently on coding and lack of motivation could really stop you from coding as you said but sometimes also it could be pretty fun to code.

Search on KZbin: Thomas Brush. He was the programmer of Pinstripe, he also drew the the graphic and even created its music by himself!.

I took Computer science and I was so disappointed that it is heavily focused in java. I was studying python for 6 months before the start of school year. However, studying python helped me a lot. Even though Java is written in a different way and has different syntax. With my knowledge in python, I easily learned the basics of java in a few days.

Haven't go to collage nor have much knowledge of the tech industry but I think I've heard before that language can be from the preference of the university. But I think it could also be because CS Major isn't expected to deal with other devices… and… games…? and will focus of Computer…? I plan to go to collage next year and sharing your experience helped me in choosing, thanks.
