A song he wrote to protest against the rising of far right in France in the middle of 80's. It is also a tribute to his wife who was a jewish marrocan. His fight for human dignity and against poverty and hunger in the world, mostly in Somalia, make him a symbol for all of us. We miss him, he's gone too soon...

hi from france. For us French, it is very important that a guy listens to the songs with an outside ear without knowing the past of this singer, which proves his talent and not the love that we have for him. was a thunderclap. He was a humanist who died in full glory. a special program has been devoted to him and the presenter after his song which makes him known "the singer" sita his last words of this song "I want to die unhappy so as not to regret anything" then say "I hope he died happy. can. a while later it is coluche who kills himself on a motorbike but that's another story. 2 humanists died the same year

He was a good man, fighting against racism, poverty and injustice. His wife was from Marocco. They had a son, Jérémie, born in 1984. Daniel wrote the song "Dieu que c'est beau" (God, how beautiful it it) after the birth of his son. Jérémie was only 2 when Daniel died and his wife was pregnant with their second child, a girl, Joana (born 5 months after her father's death). Both of his children are musicians.

Like almost evrytime with Balavoine, this is a song about universal love. At that time France, mid 80's, racism was growing because of a migration wave coming from north African, lots of muslim people (Algeria, Morocco...etc) arrived in France (the migration wave started in the 70's precisely). So, in response of the racism sh*t, a lot of antiracist art and antiracist associations were created. This song is about a little girl who had to leave her sunny country to start a new life in the cold Paris (cold weather, cold people), the chorus says "your colour and your words, it's allright for me", it's a song about welcoming foreign people with different skin, culture, language in France, arms open wide. Beautiful humanist song.

The success really start in 1978 with his first hit "Le Chanteur" and the Opera-Rock "Starmania" (Tycoon) and brutally stopped in 1986, 35 years ago.

I was literally just going to introduce you to that music video, but you've got gotten there already! Glad you like it, as it was one of the best-ever French 80's songs! Those of us in the French-speaking world used to love him a lot, and are all quite sad that *he died in a plane crash right after that MV was made!* And *fun fact:* the *woman* in the video *was his real wife!* I can relate to it, as I'm a Vietnamese guy and my girlfriend is Algerian.

"L' Aziza" is still loved today, and is a staple for French singing contests, like "N'oubliez pas les paroles" (Don't forget the lyrics): kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHa1fKt3a850orc kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqStqqB8nNagkJY

I cannot say thank you enough for reacting to this video. You have no idea what it represents to me. This song has been there all my life. When I was a little girl, I was mesmerized by the video. Later, I understood what it stands for, and it's everything I believe in. Now I'm 40 and it still makes me cry everytime like the little girl I was back then. He was a genuine great man, he standed for the oppressed people and I often wonder what France would be like if he was still around.

This is a song for tolerance. He told that , what matter the color of your skin or your religion, you are always welcome in my home, If you want to be here, there's no problems for me, don't be afraid by the bad looks. Balavoine was a humanist, and he dies in Sahara in crash of helicopter by transporting material to build wells for the villages without water. He dies with Thierry Sabine , the organizer of the rally "Paris-Dakar".

Balavoine is a great singer. 1985 was his best year. Like another great song from the same album (with crazy instruments, a lot of work and sleepless nights to get there), there is "SAUVER L'AMOUR". Otherwise, his inescapable first success that we talk about most often : "LE CHANTEUR".

You're so spot on Dereck when go: "he seemed to be a great man", oh yeah, he definitely was...so genuine, so flayed, revolted by injustice, always cared for the poorest ones, he even had the "couilles" (balls) to tell François Mitterand (former french president, charismatic) what he thought of his politics live on TV, without stammering, so charismatic too...he was a monument of french music, gone way too soon in a helicopter crash on the Paris-Dakar race in 1986 at 33 years old. Such a huge waste...😢 Many thanks Dereck!! PS: he had an unusual voice indeed, which he hated to tell you the truth...many people didn't trust him in the very beginning, telling him that his voice was too strange to be a popular singer...these idiots were so fucking wrong...

Mitterand charismatic? not! I´ve met Balavoine once though (in Dax) :) and he was very charismatic indeed !

@@alaincouillaud8997As a President, let's say that he was more charismatic than Hollande.😁 But yeah, this word suited Balavoine so much more indeed...gone too soon.

I was in Paris/France when Daniel died at the Dakar race! Helicopter crash, I was beside myself, since this was my favorite song from him! If you are starting to like 80s french pop/rock, the I should tune you to Indochine: L'aventurier, or 3zien sex, the third sex!!! Good song! Don;t forget the main song they have: How about Les Rita Mitsukos: Marcia Baila, Le petit train, cais con ca, and my favorite Andy!!! ...Maybe some Jeanne Mas: Johnny Johnny les not forget Telephone: Un Autre Monde, or Le Jour S'est Leve awesome tunes from my teenage years living in Paris!

@Dereck Hello, Great reaction from you. You've capte all what be needed to be. By cons, I don't know if I'm wrong but it seems to me speed of song was just a lil bit accelerated compared to original, wasn't it? I suggest you to now react to "Vivre ou Survivre" first and just after to "Aimer est plus fort que d'être aimer", and to finish with "Sauver l'amour". First cause I think "Vivre ou Survivre" is certainly the all first new wave French song ever product (I can't imagine what Daniel music could be if he was always with us!). The second is in same wave-synth vein but with even more experience in processing sound way. And of course always this dull rage rumbling in lyrics. The last, cause song bridge will make you fall from your chair ...Sure your bananas will roll on the floor! :D 3 titles to discover without delay. Amitiés from south France,
