Thanks for doing this interview and posting the video. The yips seems to finally be getting the attention and treatment it deserves. As someone whose baseball career was derailed by it, it feels amazing to see people talking openly about it now. The code of silence around it makes it isolating and excruciating for the people who suffer from it. Cheers to Daniel for sharing his story.

Best segment and gut wrenching. I remember the day "it" happened to me my senior year in high school. Still went 17th pick in 1977 june draft and signed and the train wreck began. Just got a net 10/26/22 I am going to enjoy throwing a baseball again.

Follow up- after 35 years of nary touching a baseball. It was like last week at 40% x120. Conclusion} getting stuck at the top or how Tom House called it "post up" to a controlled fall. So I begin again at the first movement. Post Script- you youngins take full advantage of this Tread resource- do not go to the next link until you've master'd the start. P.S 2.0 don't discount the d-cell fitness or glove hand butt wipes will be your future!!

Currently struggling to throw bp. Balls sailing wide, bouncing short, and sometimes bouncing off the top bar of l-screen. I’ve developed a “safety” throw and it’s awful. I can air it out and hit my guy in the chest but that’s not helping my freshman throwing 85.

Got the yips my Jr. year of high school. Came back fine my senior year, then when trying out for my college team, they came back and stayed. Loved the game and loved playing catch, so at aged 64, overcoming the yips became an item on my bucket list. Two years of lots of throwing by myself, lots of introspection with the help of a counselor and very tuned-in friend, and lots of anguish, my yips are finally clearing up. This video has accelerated the process tremendously. He verbalized exactly how I have felt and I hope Daniel sees this and takes great satisfaction out of knowing that he brought the joy back to an old man who still enjoys the sunshine and the movement and seeing that ever-so-white ball arc against a blue summer sky.

@@austingisriel5757 So in your experience it was tied to deeper psychological factors as opposed to just yips anxiety?

@@skyler.schain Yes, for me it was. Nothing earth-shattering, but we all carry childhood junk around. Some statement from Dad or Mom that was uttered in total innocence or with the best of intentions that was processed incorrectly or received on the wrong day . . . whatever the case may be. It's been a fascinating--and sometimes painful--process to examine how I got to be me and fix some of the things that need fixing.

Really wish I had been more mentally strong as a kid. Had great success in little league and was trying way too hard from them on. Put so much pressure on myself, I fell out of the love with the sport. After just growing up and adopting a more stoic attitude about life, swinging a bat suddenly feels smooth. It's amazing how much the mind controls your body.

bard is inspiration to me honestly. i don't play baseball, but i feel like i can apply a lot of what he says to my a lot of things in my life

Great interview! I can see a few people have posted about his poor outing at the WBC and think his yips returned, but Daniel seems to be doing pretty well this season, especially after starting off the season on the IL with anxiety. That had to be tough to bounce back from. His walk rate is pretty high this season compared to 2022, but I think it has kind of made him effectively wild. His last two outings, including tonight, he pitched 2 innings and struck out 5 of the 6 batters he's faced, and his ERA had been really low until a couple of rough outings over the last few weeks put it around 3.60, which still isn't that bad. As someone who suffered severely from the yips in baseball in high school, plus anxiety and depression in general that I still deal with, I'm really pulling for Bard. At 38, he probably won't play much longer, but I'm hoping that he finishes out his career on a high note.

Bardo used to swing by team practices at Furman when he was making his comeback. Dude helped me big time getting through the yips. Great guy and an absolute dog!

Great video. I’m a college pitcher who just had the procedure. Hand was numb for months and lost almost all control at the time.

Something that I found as interesting that I heard a while back that relates to soft v fine focus was Dave Stewart said he used to wear the bill of his hat so low where he was forced to have the strike zone his focal point.
