I think one of the biggest reasons this movie never became a hit is just a brutality of it. Aliens are ruthless, and some scenes are very disturbing. Like this scene. It is PG-13, but it hits harder than many R movies.

In someway it kinda has the same energy and feel to it as Spielberg’s War of the Worlds (2005). Both rated PG13… But some of the scenes still gives me nightmares
