The problem is with how we teach history--we look at the word "Jewish" as a religion, not necessarily a race. Do we teach the Nuremberg Race Laws as part of a typical of HS education? I doubt it. In addition, the history of America enforces the idea that members of a "race" normally look alike. The Jewish race is not homogeneous.
