Having fun, letting it "all hang out." This performance by Mr Kharitonov is exactly that. It is clearly obvious he enjoys playing this most wonderful little concerto. I find the harmonies in this work so contemporary...now. The 2nd "movement" (as such) has been copied by composers in the 50s and early 60s. The pianist manages to unify the various rhapsodic elements. The spare use of pedal through much of this allows the clarity to shine through. The 12:15 "cadenza" is played without the usual banging...the music is percussive as is. I wish the recording had a bit more balance...not quite enough orchestra IMO. No matter. A VERY enjoyable performance, and worth another visit soon.
