@@here_to_watch2115 the target changed. Today it is a 30 inch target. But back in the days when you had the iron sight qualification, they had 2 changes. One you could use a sling and second the targets were the size of billboards that they would raise up in a set interval. It was the same for everyone so all you had to do was watch the first guy do it then you knew what order they would go and you could set yourself up for it. All you had to do was make a hit and you could qualify as expert.

I like irons, but the A1 style irons suck imo. When shooting targets out to 500 yards, either you have to adjust the front sight post or use kentucky windage. Thus, if I plan on irons being the significant part of my sighting system, it's going to be either an A2 style fixed rear or an A2 carry handle rear sight. Obviously most buis are A1 style as so are many of the rear fixed iron sights, which work great for 300 yards and in, especially with a 36 yard zero, but if you know how to properly use A2 irons, they are very effective and accurate while being easier to use and adjust for those longer shots. As much as I like optics, I grew up on using only irons so until my vision goes to shit, I prefer irons over a red dot or optic, lol.

So if your iron sights are fixed at 200 M, and the target is out to 500 M , how far higher do you shoot ? I am a novice, so please keep it simple, high light a video please.
@doyouhavegainsonyourphone45074 жыл бұрын
Maybe a few inches higher.
@DR17764 жыл бұрын
Unless it is for target shooting, I can't think of a reason you are ethically trying to hit something at 500 M. But to answer your question. Bullet trajectory of a .223/5.56 is parabolic even through it is termed to be "flat". So when you are zeroed for 25 Y (US) you should be able to hit at 300 Y. If you could re zero your rifle for the "short" equivalent to make that equation work for 500 (somewhere between 25 and 200), you would be good. But that would preclude that you are using the right cartridge with respect to weight and type of load that works for that.

You don't "need" backup sights with an LPVO, you do with a red dot/HWS. If the LPVO dies (Dead battery, circuit, etc) you still have the reticle which works fine without illumination. Also, what are you going to do...dig out a Torx 25 bit and unmount the scope in the middle of a gunfight? If you are military or LE and can get stuff supplied to you then fine...but I see civilians spending $250 on BUIS to put under an LPVO that they will never use. If you do want a backup/close range option the canted red dot configurations does work very well with LPVOs.
