Dirt Rally 2.0 works wonderfully for me in VR. I have a modest RX 6750XT paired with a Ryzen 5600X and I can run Dirt Rally 2.0 at almost Max Settings with a solid constant 90 FPS on my Oculus Rift CV1. It's flawless for me. Looks and plays fantastic. I saw the Codemasters comment that VR in Dirt 2.0 was outsourced and this is their first crack at VR development in-house. I hope WRC can work great in VR. I race exclusively in VR these days.

@@DDFRacer Couldn't agree more. Driving/racing just feels so much more natural in VR. That spatial awareness and being able to tell how close you actually are to a line/curb/wall helps tremendously. Last time I tried it, I was sooo much slower than my pace within VR. I've owned WRC for a little bit now but hadn't gotten around to firing it up due to the lack of VR support. I feel you mate; As a PSVR2 owner myself, I'm very, very dissapointed that WRC 23 in VR on PS5 is not supported. And not to get your hopes destroyed, but I've read that EA/Codemasters are not planning to support the PSVR2 in the long run either. Real Engine 4 seems to be the big problem here ?!. The PS5 seems not to have the power (!?) to play this game in VR. To he honest, I think the devs should take a closer look at GT7 to get an idea whats really possible with VR on PS5. Till now; GT7 is the BEST VR experience I ever had on PS5... And if WRC 23 seems to be impossible, why not give PS5/PSVR2 owners the joy of rally driving with a VR release of the (older) Dirt Rally 2.0 - that's something that MUST be possible to do right now....

I have been playing DR 2.0 in VR and it runs pretty well. I waited for WRC to release VR before picking it up and its rough right now for sure. The biggest issue I am having has nothing to do with the VR part. WRC will not recognize my USB hand brake at all. I've had a similar issue a few times and I don't know the exact cause but unplugging it and plugging it back in again will cause it to register, either after a restart before launching the game or from within the game itself. I also noticed that you can't just select a function and map a control, you need to select the specific device you want to use and then go into the menu for that device in game and assign directly from there. It's a bit fiddly but hopefully this helps! If not then I'm all out of ideas unfortunately mate.

Just a little background on that ue4 issue with ACC: they didn't use the forward renderer when designing their game, which is basically required for decent framerates in VR and is something that you can't change without rebuilding a lot of your game/project. This is to say that ue4 doesn't mean terrible VR; it's just that ACC chose "pretty looking flat screen game" over "capable VR game".

My only recommendation would be to try playing with the Shader and Post Processing settings in the Advanced Graphics menu to see if that makes a difference 👍 fortunately you can change these settings mid-stage in EA WRC instead of having to quit, go back to the main menu then load in again. UE4 is terrible at VR unfortunately. I run a very high spec PC and it looks ok and plays well and I really enjoy it. It does run better than ACC in VR if that means anything to anyone. I wish they would of just licensed the PC2 engine like AMS2 did and this would be a spectacular VR Rally experience. But like DDF stated I hope to be proven wrong too.
@DDFRacer6 ай бұрын
I think the issue with the Madness engine from AMS2 is that it comes integrated with the physics side of things too, although don't quote me on that as I really don't know exactly what I'm talking about 😂 Reiza have spent several years reverse engineering the engine and are only just getting to grips with it and in a state they're comfortable to call their own. The progress they've made is astounding but they're also one of the most relentless dev teams I've ever seen, I swear they don't sleep ha! You'd think that EA would have the resources to do something similar over time with UE4 but you won't catch my holding my breath for too long 😬

I had the opportunity to try a friend's Varjo Aero a few months ago and the increase in resolution was incredible, everything was so much clearer and I could _actually_ make out the text on most in-car dashboards 👀 but on the flipside the field of view was a little narrower, colours seemed a little off somehow and the cost was a little intimidating too. I've seriously considered a Quest 3 on multiple occasions but when I get close to adding to the basket I always seem to find a reason not to, whether it's issues with link cables/batteries, increased latency etc. As long as the CV1 is still alive I'll keep using it as it's absolutely rock solid, but I know at some point I'm going to need a replacement, I just don't know what 😅

There's no hardware in existence that can run a simracing game in VR (using a decent headset) at full resolution, fps, and quality settings - so that's no failing of software. As compromises have to be made, I personally really don't get why people chose to turn graphics down to potato mode when motion smoothing / reprojection takes a massive workload off the PC which then allows for decent graphics with very little visual impact to motion. Maybe WRC is the exception as it uses OpenXR which can have quite prominent reprojection artifacts, but I play all other titles (Dirt Rally 1&2, ACC, AMS2, rF2 and RRE) in SteamVR and using its motion smoothing and it looks and runs awesome on my G2.
@ukgarridge84866 ай бұрын
Its very much a software fault in this case. Im running this on Ultra with 1.5x super sampling and 120fps on a Quest 3 (and a 4090) and no matter the settings the game looks awful. AA on medium or lower is a shimmering mess and anything higher makes it super blurry. Btw ive also been running AC maxed out in native resolution on my G2 before I sold it so the hardware does exist, it just depends on the game. Also motion reprojection sucks in sims imo, I notice a big drop in smoothness but fair enough if you dont mind that
@DDFRacer6 ай бұрын
I'm definitely not expecting full resolution, fps and quality settings all at the same time. It's always a compromise between these three in VR and making a decision which one takes priority, although in this case with EA WRC it's a much harder compromise than other sim racing titles 😬 and especially in my case too I need to keep a little extra headroom on my GPU for my recording/streaming software. I can live with a little stuttering in the headset every now and then but it looks terrible when played back on KZbin which kind of defeats the whole point for me personally. I could definitely bump up a few settings and enjoy nicer graphics but I wouldn't be able to capture them to video and upload here. Reprojection and motion smoothing is a good idea but essentially halves the frame rate and then fills in the gaps every 2nd frame with interpolation. I used to enable this as a precaution a few years ago in rF2 when I was running enduros to save some performance (just in case it rained mid-race and tanked my frames) and I definitely noticed a drop in smoothness unfortunately. If it works for you though then more power to mate, that's awesome! Might as well take advantage of these features if you're able 👍

I actually had the chance to try a friend's Varjo Aero a few months ago and was really impressed by the extra clarity but it's definitely not possible with my current budget unfortunately.

ea wrc can suck a dik, i bought it with "vr support confirmed" it ran sh*t since day 1 (excuses with engine transition) but man do i wish KT racing would have had VR support, because stage design is still far behind wrc generations, but how on earth can they mess up VR? like dirt 2 was brilliant. i loved it every single time the graphics went from in vr 2d screen to warping INTO the cockpit. everything looked crystal clear, run buttery smooth and now here we are summer 2024 and this game feels like a pile of trash unplayable without frs/dlss to hit any frames and looks mushy af. i will NEVER trust codemasters again. they did 1:1 the same bs dice did to battlefield. trust is a fragile thing and i looking back wishing that kt racing would have made vr possible. i know the lack of sounds and the graphics were never the best... but i was totally cool with wrc9 graphics, the content of generation and all i wanted was additional VR... and now i am stuck with this disappointing sh*t and i am beyond disappointment with all the lack of polish and how the game even starts... like srsly? ingame being asked WHILE watching through my headset "are you playing with VR?!" what kind of tiktok degenerated generation of developer thought this is the way?!

and pls, i know we love rally and VR and should praise everyone trying to give us exactely that, BUT this game is not a gift, WE PAY MONEY for this, they put out public annoucements about vr and that it was always part of the plan to have it (and expecations from codemasters with dirt2 were not utopian) but this looks and feels like they dont know, but they try out... and thats false advertisement and needs to be sued in my optinion. like refund everyone, take the remainings, put in all you got and release it as WRC 2024 without all the fake promises and at least make people happy playing on a flat screen. i personally cant stand all the "soft" reviews of hope because it might have potential... i dont get paid of what i might be able to do... i get paid of what i deliver and my customers will sue me if i mess up or straight do not deliver what i promised to do... nowadays reviews, streamers and influencers defending everything instead of naming the elephant in the room.. game is bullshit, plain bullshit if you dont invest quiet something into hardware to compensate poor programing. wrc is just one of them... watch the new batman games and the comparisons... same goes for a lot of other game series and revivals... they are all shitty heartless copies of their predecessors. i have seen a ton of games across the bench since amiga500 in 1990... its like using AI. people press a button and hope the engine will somehow magically handle the main stuff and you just have to patch and clean up here and there without any knowledge of how it is propperly made from the ground up and it shows and makes me sick. sure there are some perls out there that are even completely underrated like red dead redemption 2 but this is a game that like a technical landmark of perfection that i dont espect on every release and i do play a ton of indi games, for example i currently follow a very interesting developement of "showdown rallye" from a single developer. its insane how one person keeps improving his game and even building his own developementtools in the process and than see this studio struggle on what they do for decades.... its in-sane... and this one is a betrayl of advertisement, no doubt.

Wow 😅 that's...a lot to digest. Not that I want to defend EA for their woeful VR implementation but it's clearly stated as a beta feature and not an official feature at the moment. That said, I don't see it *ever* improving to anywhere near the standards of DiRT Rally 2.0 or even Richard Burns Rally, a freeware game from 20 years ago that absolutely blows every other rally game out of the water and has incredible VR support at zero cost whatsoever. Even if EA could dedicate the resources to improving VR (which, based on the evidence of their recent F1 games, they won't) then the game engine they switched to (UE4) is always going to limit them. Look at Assetto Corsa Competizione which uses the same engine and also runs and looks terrible in VR. Kunos have had many years to try and improve it but it's still pretty awful compared to other titles such as Assetto Corsa, Automobilista 2 and even iRacing. You say that the engine can't be blamed for the poor VR but it absolutely can since it's known to perform poorly in VR everywhere else. Why EA decided to use UE4 is beyond me, but they would have had their reasons...maybe it allowed them to create longer stages than the old engine in DiRT Rally 2.0 or was cheaper to purchase and develop than another engine out there? Who knows. In reality, VR for sim racing on PC is a _very_ small market in the grand scheme of gaming. The actual people responsible for implementing it at EA are probably as frustrated as we are and would love to do a better job but they don't make the executive decisions about where the development budget gets spent or how much time can be allocated to it. The project managers and publishers who call the shots, especially at larger companies such as EA who can afford to be disconnected from their users and still rely on good sales, just want a game that releases on time and makes money sadly. That's not the fault of the people who do the actual coding and programming, who I don't doubt for a second are extremely skilled and technically proficient. For example, Reiza studios who develop AMS2 are a much much smaller team and are known for their incredible passion and relentless updates. Those guys never sleep and they actually care about their product and their users because they're much more directly connected with them. That's all they do though, they're not a studio with other projects where they need to split resources. You made a few other points which I'll run through quickly: Re: the game start message asking about VR - I don't understand the tiktok comment personally but, to be fair, all VR games ask this question _before_ you start the game. It's an odd way EA have done it, but it's an important question because whether you're using VR or not will directly affect how the rendering in-game is handled from that point onwards. The question also pops up on the desktop, not just inside the VR headset. What if your headset is connected but you feel like driving on the monitor instead? Maybe you don't want to use VR because you want to use the non-VR version of the game to get some nice high quality full resolution screenshots from photo mode? Not everybody who uses VR, uses VR every time. Re: soft reviews - I personally can't stand toxicity and hate in sim racing, there's no place for it and there's already enough of it going around so I'm not going to be another voice saying "this or that is sh*t". Better to say nothing at all than say something negative, which is why I took a balanced review and took *all* aspects of EA WRC into consideration but also clearly stated the VR was pretty shockingly bad. I don't get anything out of slamming them, but I also don't get anything out of praising them either. I can't speak for other content creators or streamers, but I'm just breaking it down as I personally see it and putting the information on the table so that people watching can make an informed decision for themselves. Re: suing EA - Sure, people are paying money to buy the game, but they made that decision themselves. EA didn't steal any money or force them to do anything they didn't want to. That person voluntarily agreed to a financial transaction and if they read all of the reviews out there and *knew* that it was going to be bad in VR but *still* bought it and complained about it then that's on them. People who pre-order games and buy without doing their research first need to take a little responsibility and accept the fact that it might not be as good as the developer is advertising it to be. Of course they'll say it's amazing and try to make it sound fantastic, they want to sell it! But if you believed every game description, every movie blurb, every TV show synopsis then you'd have to think that everything out there is the best thing ever to have been created...and that's clearly not the case. Okay, I think that covers everything, sorry if it didn't 👍I need to take a break after responding to your comments mate, but at the end of the day it's just a game. I'd hate to see what you're like when you get worked up about more important things in life 😆
