I think that they definitely left it open to either interpretation, or even a little bit of both things all in one, and yet didn't outright tell you for sure either way. They may or may not clarify it later on, or they might just leave it open to interpretation; we shall see. ^-^ _(to clarify, I would say the editing in that moment of flashing to the flashback and Vander's body and everything in that moment[ and the way his eyes react/widen at first], certainly suggested that he might be identifying a bit with Powder in that moment, but right as he closes his arms around her before the scene's end his eyes actually do a different thing that doesn't exactly look like sympathy anymore and looks a lot more like he's just scheming to use her, so I don't really blame anyone who read slightly more of either one interpretation into that scene than they read of the other interpretation into it; It makes sense, to me, that it's a scene that's going to hit differently for different viewers - and, personally, I think that may have actually been intentional.)_

While watching Arcane I felt the same as when I watched Spiderverse, like this is something that breaks the game by a lot (talking about animated series in this case, not movies). They translated the art style of their game's splash arts into an animated series and it's so freaking awesome how they made it look so good and smooth. And Vi remembering Vander's words in EP 1 when she looked at her hand... small things like that make it all the more poignant. Cliche, sure, but the delivery and execution are perfect. Great review! And thanks to this, I found your channel! Happy to be here and am looking forward to more of your content!

I never heard of the game before last week when I came across an article praising the show. I watched it and loved it and agree with most of what you said. Looking forward to the next 3 episodes in a couple of days. 😃

The fights and the feeling behind every punch is what hooked me.

I was overwhelmingly surprised by the awesomeness! I was hooked after the first 20-30 seconds of the opening bridge scene. Totally not what expected, can't wait for the next drop. p.s. I would love to see the Mistborn series realized in this animation style rather than live action. This animation style fits my head cannon perfectly for Mistborn, just me maybe, but the stylized steam punk arcane industrial revolution setting just rang my bell!

Thanks for doing the first part spoiler free, I play League of Legends and have seen a lot of League fans give it praise but to hear someone outside of League say it is so good makes me want to watch it for sure!

I think Silco legitimately sympathizes with Powder; his eyes just looked so kind when she hugged him

My husband and I watched episode 1 last night after your review and he kept saying "It is a DnD session". We had to laugh at one point when there was a conversation which are almost certain that we had in a DnD session but I don't consider that an issue. We will be watching the next episode tonight and I'm really looking forward to it

The lore of Runeterra is absolutely insane and this is just the tip of the iceberg, Piltover and Zaun are just one piece of this massive world. I would recomend to anyone intrigued by this world to watch some of Necrit's videos, he's the lore guy and has deep dives for basically every character and location in the world including Piltover and Zaun. If you want to see just how dark Zaun can go I would recommend watching his Singed videos.

Man I was not expecting a review for this but I'm so happy lol I had high expectations for this show cuz I've been following (not the game!) the music, cinematics, comics, and lore. I had no doubts that this show was gonna be cool as shit

I mirror your thoughts exactly. It doesn't do anything new in terms of story, but it hits all the beats REALLY well.

Really hope you do a review for the rest of the show. It's one of my favorite shows in a long, long time.

I loved the animation and art style, that's what pulled me in at first. Used to play LoL and keep up with the lore, so it was fun to see those characters emerge into the story (my husband and I squeaked when we saw Heimerdinger). Glad Riot actually delivered a good product (so far), since they definitely have the funds/capacity to do so.

I heard the budget is of about 10 million dollars per episode, so yeah, there's money on the screen and it shows - a part of that seems to have been due to rewrites and re-making of whole scenes, which happens for movies but I don't know how common it is for shows - probably not very. Anyways even if you include live action shows, this is in the high tiers budget wise. But that would mean nothing if the story was bad, and even though it's not mindblowing, it's well executed.

I’m not a big fan of League the game, but was curious to check this out after seeing all the reviews. I definitely appreciate that I don’t need to know any lore or info from the games in order to enjoy the show.

I finished them just hours ago and was also blown away by the unexpected quality of the show. I love the three episode drops for this, and it isn't JUST for the launch. The next three drop tomorrow, and the final three a week later. Love how that's working.

As someone who used to play League of Legends and who was a massive lore nerd I really loved how many "oh! so that's where it begins" or "that makes sense!!" moments there were. It's kinda cool to know how they (at least all the champion characters) are gonna end up and see where it all starts!

One aspect to this show that I've truly loved has been the amount of cameos... notes... calls? I don't know what to call them all, but so many characters are already being noted and setup from the LoL universe. I already freaking love setups (going all the way back to Iron Man when Tony is asked about the Avengers Initiative and seeing that pay off in 2012 Avengers) and having so many characters be put into this cinematic rollercoaster... it's just sooooo satisfying to me.

My eyes were glued to the screen. My interest did not waver. It is Fantasy. Very artistic. Everything that I could want from a show. What a story.

I have re-watched this series many times now. It's rather insane how well crafted it is and how compelling the wants, desires, struggles, etc... of everyone involved is. I hope this is a very strong first step for the League of Legends cinematic universe. If it is to the quality of this series as been thus far, I am 110% on board.

As someone who has trouble watching any shows now, Arcane was a breath of fresh air. The last fifteen-ish minutes of the third episode made my jaw drop; it was a mixture of awe and "Oh, they went there" that shocked me to my core. It's genuinely made me a fan here and I cannot *wait* for the next episodes. Also, Vander's last stand on the platform was BRUTAL. It was like an old ultra-violent 80s anime brought to life.

I am a player since 2010, haven't played much these last 2 years but am still an avid reader of the lore, and to me... this is a legacy. We all dream of seeing that comic, book, game, or whatever that we love with a passion adapted to a "movie" in all its glory, and most times it doesn't really go like we want. Some are good, most are bad... but this one... OH GOD THIS ONE, sincerely I had expectations, but being a jagged adult I was ready for at least some hiccups, but when I ended the third episode, I felt... I felt vindicated, this is exactly what I wanted, and I bet any fans want, a story so well told that it creates an emotional need for more. It is just the first episodes but as Daniel said, generally at this point we would already have some hints that things may not go well but Arcane has planted a deep seeded confidence in me, that this series will deliver so much more than we first thought.

So like Stephen King wrote it.. LMAO! Oh gosh, YES. This was so fantastic! I look forward to seeing the last few episodes! Also yeah, I love the three episode drop! It gives us more time to better process shows, rather than just binging everything at once, with less time to process between scenes. I mean, we could always just not watch them all at once... Pfffffffft, or not. :P

Having watched the whole damn thing (best animated show I’ve seen since castlevania and Avatar), i cannot wait for your spoiler reviews of acts 2+3. Cuz holy shit this show had continuous peak quality and I’m still grasping the fact that this show accomplished that

Best thing about this is if arcane is good in its whole and is well recieved (for now it is ), Piltover and Zaun are just one place of the dozens that are of great importance in Runeterra. The world of League is vast and we can hope to see many beautiful places and interesting characters going forward, from the invasion of Noxus on Ionia to the struggles at mount Targon and the celestials, Darkins, Yordles, ninjas, Demigods, SHURIMA. I am so hyped

I just watched the first 3 episodes and I am completely and utterly BLOWN AWAY!!!! I am a big fan of Anime and I’m very picky on what I watch. I don’t know what this is categorized as. But honestly it’s the best show I have seen so far on Netflix and it’s only the first 3 episodes. MAGNIFICENT!!!! If you pass this show up you definitely are missing out!!!!
