the fact that Silco spits at Vander for caring more for his adoptive daughters than Zaun and how Vander gave up fighting to get their own nation for his daughters and then 10 years later Silco is doing the same thing, and that *he acknowledges he's doing the same thing* because he said "is there anything as undoing as a daughter?" and that he knew right then and there he would never give up Jinx for Zaun even if he knows it's hypocritical, but that Jinx didn't understand the context so she misread it is all one huge messy beautiful tangle of emotion that really rips me up

The thing that impressed me most about Arcane was that the show wasn't scared to be Visceral. There are moments that will and are designed to make you uncomfortable. From Powder's screaming fit in episode 3 to the child cracking on the ground in episode 8, this show is not afraid to turn it up to 11 when it needs too. It's been a hot moment since an animated show has had the balls to show me dark things to indicate something's fucked, and I'm really happy that Arcane is willing to go that extra mile to make the story impactful.

@L0rdLexan01 2 жыл бұрын
@@RutraNickers There was enough blood. The show knows when to be visceral and when to restrain itself. This show has one of the best character developpements ever. When he was first introduced, Silco was mad at Vander for trying to stop him from waging war against Piltover, and denying "the Nation of Zaun" only because Vander cared too much about his supposed daughters. And ten years later Silco literally does the same thing. That's why he sat in front of Vander's statue when he was considering it. Also in the first episode Silco says "Power comes to those who would do anything to achieve it." and in the last episode he says he wouldn't have given up Jinx no matter what, not even to achieve the power he always dreamed and worked for. It's these details that make me truly admire a show.

I found the Vi/Caitlyn relationship pretty believable tbh. Caitlyn has demonstrated she is open to change and does care about the Lanes, and has helped Vi and saved her atleast once or twice (by freeing her from prison, and then saving her from Sevika and getting her medicine). Moreover in the talk with Ekko, Vi is visibly moved by Caitlyn’s admitting she was naive about the truth and her desire to help the Lanes. The whole relationship is about how two opposite sides of the conflict can work together and come to understand one another. By the end they have gone through some stuff and can depend on one another. The time period was short but it was packed with these moments of clarity and understanding so by Act 3, it felt realistic that both developed camaraderie and understanding for each other. Both learned that the other side wasn’t “bad” as they thought, and that they could at least depend on and trust each other.

Though they have known each other for about a week and i want to see some of that trust / class issues to spring up to flesh them out a bit more as a couple or even just partners in piltover law enforcement ( ekko's in game line about her being a sell out for example). I also will be very disappointed if Cait's mother ends up dying due to what happens not creating some sort of tension or resentment.

Yeah. It only falls apart because the final six episodes happen over just a handful of days (and the first three happen in less than 48 hours). But it's easy to forget that while watching and your mind just fills in the gaps that technically aren't there, but still feel like they are. That's actually quite a masterful storytelling technique in itself. I was taken out of the suspension of disbelief once or twice while watching but they managed to fill the screentime they had with stort pretty well.

I actually though Caitlyn and Vi's progression was pretty believable. They started out (understandably) suspicious of each other but hardly outright enemies, then set out to accomplish a common goal and quickly went through some extremely dire and emotionally-charged situations together, both saving the other multiple times in the process and all around doing plenty to earn each other's trust. Add a pretty apparent romantic/physical attraction to that ("You're hot, cupcake" literally in like their fourth scene together, plus all the little cheek strokes, and the scene on the bed in ep 8) and it's not at all unreasonable that they could very quickly form a strong emotional bond. Just look at all the historical epidemics of overnight romances during wartime to see that times of crisis tend to speed things up a lot.

@@darko1295 Seriously. I can't get over how good their facial expressions were. During the first few episodes, before I had gotten used to it, I was just amazed at how emotionally effective practically every fucking expression was. It's the little things. Like, during the first two minutes of the show, I audibly noted how great that little gesture Powder does when she sees her dead parents is. It's so small, her sort of averting her eyes and clutching her big sister, retreating behind her a bit like she's almost hiding from the sight. And her eyes look up to Vi, like she's looking towards her for how to react, and her eyes glaze over. Then she starts crying as Vi sobs. That's SO fucking realistic. THAT is how a child reacts in such an overstimulating, traumatic environment. A thousand mediocre stories have does this exact same scene, a thousand great ones have too, but they'd have Powder start bawling immediately. It was so, so much more effective to show the mind-numbing shock and to show the subtleties of her reaction... _all without dialogue!_ Fucking incredible.

Love how the show breaks character molds. Examples include: - Jinx being a genius that def needs some help instead of the typical chaotic villain always having a blast - Vi having streetsmarts and recognizing certain details to be clever which shows she's more than some hotheaded thug. And she has experienced lots of trauma and pressure meaning she is not just strong physically but also emotionally and mentally - Vander being practical and forward about the realities he, Vi, and the gang were facing rather than being the “I said so” type (credit to Mackie Lunkey in the replies btw) - Silco somewhat resembling a parental figure to Jinx in his own way with a high level of trust but also being conniving to the point where people argue on whether or not he was good for Jinx - Caitlyn's parents being understanding in some cases rather than following the typical rich snobby parents that only cares about image - People actually getting injured, bruised, bleeding but not overdoing it that way the fight scenes are somewhat realistic and it’s as if you can feel their pain Unrelated but honorable mention: The soundtrack, both songs with vocals and instrumental scores, are a work of art

Zaun wasn't prepared for a revolution and Silco was already from the start against the idea of turning Jinx in which would've been a nonnegotiable demand by Piltover, due to her clear involvement in actual terrorism. The only way to keep Jinx and Zaun safe at the same time, was to trust in the weaponization of the gemstone which ironically only Jinx could achieve. I'm gonna be real, I've never touched League and know absolutely nothing about it, so all of these characters were brand new to me. Idk, league is a great game, regardless of all of the hate for it. There's a reason it's been so popular for 12 years. Yes there are games where you get stuck with toxic teammates, probably at an increased rate than most games, but it's all chat box (no hot mic) and can easily be muted! Each match is like a mini chess game so obviously people are going to have different outlooks on how to play that state of the game (which is often where to arguments stem from).

One of my favorite things from the show was showing that of the parallels and similarities between Vander and Silco and how they were connected through backstory but as Vander ultimately falls, Silco rises and how much it had mirrored the divide between Vi and Powder and how she became Jinx. Just as Vi was in her relationship with Vander, Jinx became exactly that in how she was brought together with Silco. Also, Silco’s empire in the undercity was pretty much the same thing that Vander was doing before. One created and evolved through cooperation and compromise, the other born ruthless calculus and that of an iron fist but it was not malicious but still had pure intentions and a grand overall purpose.

Yeah I thought it was done well. It wasn’t rushed. From the start Vi is antagonistic but opens up when she realizes Caitlyn genuinely wants to help, and cares about the Lanes. This show’s relation to canon game lore is slightly complicated. There are a few decisive changes made but ultimately Arcane is still an origin story for numerous league champions so anyone who does know said characters’ game lore will already have an idea about where they’ll end up. Either in this season or the next. Also, since it is set before the ‘present time’ of the game, it’s obvious to a lot of league players that anyone who’s a champion cannot be killed off, meaning the viewing experience of people who no nothing about league is actually enhanced which I think is cool.
@haelioe2895
@haelioe2895 2 жыл бұрын
This is exactly what I was thinking but put into words. The connection with the preexisting lore is still very present with arcane. Also I agree and would argue the show is BETTER if you have never touched league because you dont know what cant be killed off. Like im sure many people thought ekko died or that singed died but knowing that their league champs kinda ruined it. They did such a great job with the nonchamp characters that they seem like they could be champs like the iron jaw dude, Silco, or Mel.

I don't see much people talk about it. But the cinematography should also get amazing credit. Almost every scene is a painting in it of itself. Alot of the big action song and tension scenes have the smoothest fucking transitions I've ever seen. Not to mention the composition and constant iconography and symbolism in each scene.

the CONSTANT play with eyes, the sides of people's faces that are showing, the "human" right eye and the "monster" left. Silco's scar out of sight when he holds Jinx. Vi turning and showing us her right side monster eye when we first see her in the cell. Jinx's one lock of hair hanging in the way of her "human" right eye. There are loads more examples - these are just off the top of my head.

EXACTLY, couldn't agree more! Nearly every scene has a tear away, fade, burn or color matching transition. Seriously, for something animated to have camera awareness at this level is very rare 🔥🔥🔥

The silco jinx relationship is so beautifully and toxically crafted. He's a Terrible man who used jinx for his purposes and grew feelings for her as a father. She shouldn't listen to his words but he was the only person "there for her".

I don’t think there’s anything sexual between them. Jinx is just very childlike obviously, and hasn’t really mentally aged all that much from when he first found her. It’s likely shes just been keeping up her childlike tendencies, and he’s learned to accept it. Their relationship is anything but romantic.

For me it was really tragic and jarring. They play that game like they did when they were kids having fun, but then we cut to reality where they're trying to kill each other. To put that into perspective imagine you and your sibling are playing cops and thieves or something, and this is the memory that plays along while you are literally trying to shoot and kill them.
@xenosbreed

The fight scene was incredible, I loved the stylization of the beginning and I loved how they represented Ekko's Ult in game instead as a memory he was learning from in a child like way, then immediately juxtapose with the real, gritty violence of actually trying to kill each other. I don't think there was a scene I didn't love in this show

Wrong about one thing: Arcane IS DIRECTLY tied in to League's lore. Everything that happens in the show is a precursor to who the characters finally end up being as we see them in the game, like Jinx getting her pink eyes, Vi getting her gloves, Singed experimenting on Vander to eventually become Warwick, so on and so on.
@lachlanwu2838
@lachlanwu2838 2 жыл бұрын
Vander becoming Warwick is heavily hinted at but not fully confirmed at any point. Additionally, the lore aspect is changed quite significantly since it's stated that in her original lore, Vi used Chem-Baron Mining Gauntlets to save trapped people in a mine before being noticed by Enforcers/Wardens from Piltover and had them upgraded. This is of course similar to what happens in Arcane but altered slightly.

@@lachlanwu2838 That's incorrect. Riot a few years ago had announced they were separating the lore of the rift from the lore of the world of Runeterra. If you go and read Vi's biography on their website, you'll see how closely Arcane follows it. Every champion is out in the world doing stuff, and aren't drawn into the League of Legends for one reason or another like in the OG lore.

@@blutwirbel3180 Some of the lore around ekko, heimdinger, and hexcores is off. Look at this video for example: Tales of Runeterra: Piltover and Zaun | “True Genius”. Few other small points, but I think after watching that, you'll get the gist of it.

Well Jayce and Viktor's lore was completely rewritten. For example Jayce originally did not have an "obsession" with magic. The two also worked well before Jayce even found the crystal and they were separated long before Jayce made hextech.
