i've gotten this issue fixed at a shop a couple times and after a few weeks the light would come back on. i never could find where they said was repaired until i watched this video and boom there it is. multiple spots of corroded wire so i cut out sections to replace then sealed all the connections as best as i could with tape. Thanks for the post, i've tried to fix this for at lest two years now and finally did it in about ten minuets.

Same issue on my 05 F-250. I have spent HOURS going through this thing! I have had it apart at least 3 or 4 times, replaced the solonoid and the canister valve. I cannot believe it was this simple! This took less than an hour!

Man, thank you so much for this post. Failed my local emission inspection & thought it was something totally different. When I got under the truck, something had chewed the wires off the connector. Just had to watch where you went under the truck & was able to find my problem within 2 minutes. Saved me hundreds! Thank you for your knowledge & willingness to share.

Just wanted to say thanks to Daniel Jaeger! Had to get my truck inspected and it failed because of a P0466 code. Thought I would do the right thing and take it to a local shop to get it done quick. A day and a half and $350 later and it failed again with the same code. I took it back again and the shop and they wanted me to leave it over the weekemd and perhaps they would figure it out eventually? I already missed a day of work, so I brought to my buddy Adam Hall in Austin TX. He looked up this video on youtube and in half an hour we found a corroded wire in the harness. It cost zero dollars to fix, and the engine light is off. Thanks man! Too bad I spend $350 for nothing (they replaced the purge vent which was $140 for a $40 part and $210 for 30 min of labor, which is such a rip off even if it had been the issue).

Daniel, what a life saver. Thx ever so much for this video. I had the same problem on my 2014 F150 XLT, I tried everything then I found this “awesome video”. Main difference, I had was that the evap canister is up front under the driver side door, however I kept looking in back, dropped the tire and looked the best I could, thinking where the heck is this. So looked up front and located the canister and immediately found the error. Problem I seemed to have had was a squirrel or something must have chewed through plastic flex type cover that is over the wire, when it got through that it also chewed into the two wires and shorted them out. I retaped the wires and walla it was fixed immediately. Once again thx, keep up the good work.

Thanks for this vid, found my issue ! My code was PO446, I have an ‘08 E-250, and sure enough went under the van, located that same connector you show and my green wire is corroded about half inch away from the connector, stripped insulation off the wire itself and the copper inside is like mush. Thanks again, saved me alot of time and aggravation to find this needle in a hay stack !

A big thank you for the video! The information you provided was immensely helpful. I own a 2011 Ford Ranger XLT 4 x 4. The check engine light had come on and off three times before going to the local auto supply to see why the check engine light was on. P0446 code. They sold sold me a vapor canister vent valve. which did not fix the issue! After watching your video I set out to find this check engine light problem. You explaining how, when and where to check for voltage led me to find that the hot wire under factory black tape had been crushed with a hole by the ford factory and was corroded in two about three inches from the end of the plug at the valve. Again thank you.

Thank you so much. I'm working on a 2010 F250 Super Duty 3V 5.4 and it had a P0446 that would not go away. Watched this video and ended up finding corrosion inside the power wire about 2" from the Canister Vent Solenoid Connector. You were right. Great video.

Peter Koch Jr. what kind of symptoms were you getting. I’ve got the same year and engine but no codes. Engine sputters climbing hills and when accelerating hard. Seems to run better after I get below 1/2 tank of gas.

All of the newer car's wiring harnesses are failing from corrosion. I believe the vinyl coating on the wires have micro cracks that allow moisture to get in. I have a 2010 F150 with the same code right now; however, I have already repaired a corroded wire on my trailer light wiring and I see corroded wires on my transmission wiring (no failures yet on those). I truly believe this will be an epidemic in the near future!

I disconnected Vent Solenoid plug, tested the plug tips with my multimeter, got 11-12V. Tugged on plug wiring a few times- retested got 3V. Even if I got 12V still woulda dug in. I peeled back a few inches into the harness where green/purple plug wires buck into, unraveled a small taped area and Hey! Green wire had a tight bend. I could barely see a very tiny 1/2 break green wire. ( I broke it apart with my thumb and finger). Stripped both ends, used a tiny murret connector, little vaseline to stop future corrosion probs, taped it tight. Cleared code PO446 with my OBD tester, >NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT< Sweet

I am a disabled vet and my chevy venture handicap van both back windows in the sides failed open. I get around a little bit so I put voltage to the window and it closed swapped it and it opened . I tried it from the control failed open every time both sides. It took a little while but I found the wire harness running from the floor by the door it had the rubber covering over the harness failed. It had 5 wires corroded almost in half . My fix lasted up till I took it off the road due to rocker arm bolt pulled out in the back. It only has 106k miles. I am saving to get it fixed. I do not have the abilty to pull the engine forward to get to the bolts. Gonna cost me 1800.. or so.

Did the truck have the spare tire in place or was it missing? If it wasn’t in place, extra road grit can be thrown up and damage wiring. My ‘14 F150 got stolen in 2018 and this past winter I had it in the dealership for some related issues with backup camera/license plate lights. Culprit: wiring damaged.

So what sort of issue does this cause exactly? I have a 2006 f150 with 240k miles, its 40 degrees outside this morning. Drove the truck into town about 30 mins shut it off and got breakfast at a diner and when I went to leave the truck had a longer than usual crank and when actually started it threw CEL with codes p0316 (engine misfire first 1000 revs) & p0446 Evap emission vent circuit error but the weird thing is I drove it 15 mins to work from there and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Truck ran just fine, didn't experience any sort of power loss and kind of just thought maybe it was a glitch / erroneous issue. I reset the DTC's and plan to see how the truck runs whenever I take it through town again later for lunch but was just curious if anyone has experienced these codes in combination with one another like myself.

I have a P 0446 that testing hasn't found and this very well could be the cause. Question is when you have found corroded wires, are they normally where the wire meets the main bundle or further in? I have arthritis and see if this is the problem but working on a very long stretch of wire would be painful and take quite a while. Also how would you get at cables up front, if that's where the issue is? Thanks
