Look up Origens attempt at a refutation of a lost text by Celsus which the church banned and burned but which we know about cos of Origens book 'Against Celsus', a book of counter arguments trying to poorly refute Celsus's reasoned claims. The reason I believe the new testament is not just cause ive met Jesus personally and felt his holy spirit. Its also because of the facts about it. From the crucifixion to the apostles all claiming the same thing and dying for it. Its all recorded separate from the bible. So that stuff did happen. It just doesn't prove Jesus is lord like they believed. However, I know human beings. I know how easily they cower and lie for their own benefit. Especially when they are scared. Those apostles died in some of the most horrific ways in history because they wouldn't deny Christ. Meaning, while they were being tortured not once did they deny what they said was the truth. And they all had the same exact truth that came after Christ's crucifixion...Christ wasnt even alive on earth while the new testament was written on his behalf. That type of thing simply doesn't happen. If you hurt someone enough, they will tell you anything. Those men didn't. Not one of them. It doesn't make any sense that they were all crazy in the exact same way and had the same hallucinations at the exact same time. And were willing to be tortured to death for it. That doesnt happen man. Ever.
