Dear Daniel: The zucchini, courgetti, baby marrow, or summer squash produces a fruit called a pepo (a berry). These may reach a meter, in length, but are usually harvested at 15-25cm. Zucchini descends from squashes, first domesticated in Mesoamerica, over 7,000 years ago. The zucchini itself was bred in Milan in the late 19th century. I do keep some, blanched vegetables, in my freezer, for my pets, but rarely use them, as I tend to over-feed and wind up with more algae. Your electric blue Acara are to die for! I ordered some, a month ago, via a nearby, pet store. They still haven’t arrived. Thank you, for sharing your, gardening experiences, on KZbin. All my best, Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar

How great to grow your own plecocumbers! My common doesn't care for them, but my shrimp and snails like it quite a bit. I liked your ewok village 🙂👍

Directly from the producer to the pleco (Ancistrus) consumer! Courgettes are an excellent food Daniel, I see that your Neocaridinas appreciate them, mine don't eat them at all but they eat a lot of fruit. Good day

No worries Mark. Maybe wait till spring now. I think May to June is the sweet spot for planting.

That's awesome growing them yourself, at least you know they are safe to eat with no insecticides added.

I use a heater suction cup to hold unblanched zucchini halfway up the side of the tank, the severums love it.

I put in 2 about ten inches apart. Funny to see 5 severums, an angel and a bristlenose all fight over one while they all ignore the other.

Give it a go mate. Super easy and I quite enjoyed checking on the plants to see how they were doing every now and then it has to be said.

Farm fresh food, from garden to tank. Man you are CHEAP mate!!! LOL Just kidding this is a great idea. My Dad grows cucumbers every summer and I always steal one for the plecos. 🥒🥒🥒🥒🐠🐟🐠🐟

I feed various fruits and vegetables to my BN plecos, but one particular individual just likes to eat Amazon sword leaves, making it look really unsightly. I'm guessing there's something in the plant that it likes but I can't have that in a display tank.

Yeah they're quite tough on broad leaved plants like Amazon Swords unfortunately.

How good are they … i would love to grow stuff but no room for a green house and cant leave them out in the open as i live between farms , fishing ponds and canals so theres rats round where i live

Ah that's a shame. Wonder if you could grow them inside if you had a wee corner that gets lots of light.
