I reaaally love Dolores' verse and it is so, so cool how the background noises are amplified in her verse, but accompany the song - as a character with incredible hearing, her own whispering is both part of her personality as well as related to her power. Each sound like the swishing of her dress, the footsteps, etc.... all give a glimpse into how loud the smallest noises are to her. So very cool!

One of the most Latino things I heard in the whole movie was their little exchange " 'You tellin' this story or am I???' 'I'm sorry, mi vida (meaning my life/aka my dearest), go on..." As a Mexican (I'm not here to represent all Mexicans, just here to share,) we love telling a good story, and we HATE getting interrupted, even by somebody who was there too and just wants to give their perspective. Usually the interruptor is so excited that they can't hold back, but the original speaker gets annoyed at them. Luckily, Felix and Pepa love each other dearly and she was just as quick to forgive his excitement as he was to apologize for cutting in without amplifying her message.

In his beginning line "7" is sung in Camilo's voice, "foot frame" is sung in Bruno's voice and it continues through his verse as he shape shifts between himself and Tio Bruno! Danielle Marie: is there a name for the multi-line singing. I think of it as a Gilbert and Sullivan thing but I understand it's a Hamilton thing too. Another music reactor (wiith some music training) said that that kind of multii-line cross singing is called a "Madrigal" - have you ever heard of this? I know, of course, of the song type "Madrigals" and I can see how the names might have evolved from that music form but I haven't been able to track down the name online. Just curious! Those scenes with cross-singing characters are almost always my favorite in any musical theater production (or opera! ) that I see! Thx

So in the final bit most of them are just each character repeating their verse but Isabella's actually changes slightly- in her final lines she sings "I'm fine, I am fine." I'm not smart but Im pretty sure it's to foreshadow Isabella admitting she doesn't actually want to marry Mariano. Mirabel was pretending to be fine at Antonio's party and Isa is pretending she's happy with her role as "golden child" EDIT: so I listened back a few times and as best I can tell Isa's final verse goes like this; He told me that the life of my dreams Would be promised and someday be mine He told me that my power would grow Like grapes that thrive on the vine, I'm fine He told me that the life of my dreams Would be promised and someday be mine And I'm fine And I'm fine And I'm fine I am fine *He's here!*

Dolores is my favorite because of the little things about her character that would go relatively unnoticed. Since she hears so much at one time its given her sensory overload causing her to whisper and with her hearing so much she has to rely the information at a fast pace causing her to talk fast at all times. If there is a lot of nose you can also she Dolores cover her ears because it hurts her sensitive ears. The reason she doesn't know everything like she should is because everyones room is tailored to their powers so Dolores's room is covered with sound proofing allowing her to sleep at night but bruno's secret door is right beside her room and that's why she can hear him all the time. The part where Dolores sings to Mirabel you can actually see Bruno sneaking around on the second floor which is why a little later in the song Dolores says "I can hear him now". I love little details like this, it just shows the level of care Disney puts in there movies.
@jeremiahmacadam92843 жыл бұрын
I also love how at the end when all of the parts are combined, Dolores’s verse shifts to “and I’m fine, and I’m fine, and I’m fine fine fine”, and on “I’m fine fine fine” Isabela joins in with Dolores. Such a great detail that is often missed.

A biologist searches for the ingredients and biochemical formula that will cure a bodily illness, and a musician searches for the musical sounds and formula that will prompt a specific emotional response. Lin Manuel Miranda is def the musical scientist that found the musical formula for joy! I think everyone loves this song the first time they listen to it lol! Each singers' part just heightens the energy and fun, it never drops. That's hard; to keep one-upping your track with each verse! I totally agree with you, Danielle, about how his work encourages re-listens for new discoveries. He really pulled out all the stops with this film to give each character depth through their songs.

Those were pizzicato strings under Isabella's section. (A great example of pizzicato is Leroy Anderson's 'Plink Plank Plunk'.) Overlapping melody lines have a long history. Gilbert and Sullivan often included double choruses in their operettas: two groups singing different melodies separately which then blend perfectly when sung together. 'When the foeman bares his steel/Go, ye heroes!' from 'The Pirates of Penzance' is a perfect example. Lin-Manuel Miranda, however, takes it to the next level, with at least four melodies overlapping.

The Madrigals doing "The Madrigal!" 😊 Lin Manuel really is a legend with his songwriting. It really does resembles with the songs in Hamilton and somehow I thought I heard Angelica Schuyler singing the background too 😅 so Epic! Gives me chills... everytime!

Great reaction. These are fun to watch but how you actually are breaking down the structure of the voices is both entertaining and informative.

This is my favorite reaction video to We Don't Talk About Bruno! Your reactions are so genuine and authentic that I'm getting chills from listening to the song, and I've heard this song on repeat for at least an hour!

Fun fact, at around 8:30, Isabela sings something new. If you listen closely, you can hear her singing “I’m Fine” x3)

this is the first time watching a react to singing video and I really enjoyed it. I’ve seen this movie a 100 times and watching this and your reactions gave me chills all over again. The music in this movie is amazing! And I loved seeing you vibe to it.

Danielle, I would love to hear your views about the "Sunday" sequence in the recent Lin Manuel Miranda project on Netflix, Tik Tik Boom. It gave me goosebumps, since it was inspired by Stephen Sondheim and seeing some iconic faces from Broadway really made me appreciate the song more.

It was fantastic. I loved that sequence. It reminded me subtly of The Vie Boheme from Rent.

I will forever watch you based off this video. You called everything out I did. You actually explained your feelings unlike some I’ve seen so far. You appreciate the nuances in the tone of the music. When you sang the parts that resonated with you, I heard the passion. It was awesome. Can’t wait to watch more.

It would be nice if you listened to the end bit a little more to hear each of what everyone is saying, some of the pitches and a few of the words change from when they sang before. Dolores and Isabella start saying "I'm fine, it's fine" and stuff then Camilo kinda raises his voice a tiny bit higher during the last "he sees your dreams, he feasts on your screams" it's all pretty cool honestly

I was mad at Isabela initially, but when she started singing.... I just melted.... I never recovered. I really liked her in the end. Loved the hell out of this movie though. The vocal range of everybody in the cast was just insane. Brilliant.

As someone who sang as a hobby all my life but without vocal lessons, I love the harmonies in it!! I never could figure my fav part as all of it is amazing!

Excellent analysis !!! it is great specially for those of us who don't know about music. As a colombian I'm more than happy with this songs showing our culture with authenticity and care.

I think the last part where all of the characters' parts are mixed is probably representing Mirabel's mind as she listens to them talking about Bruno. You will notice that the part is also played while Mirabel is making the glass pieces come together while the singers are singing at the same time, all voices coming together. Typical Lin-Manuel music. My opinion btw

at the end you can focus on Isabella singing, and you can hear her repeating the words "Im fine." with a stressed look on her face. a brief foreshadowing to her internal struggle that is shown later.

If you look closely at Isabella during the overlap verse near the end, she say's "'I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine" with a very distressed face which portrays her character in the movie perfectly well.

Dolores is saying “i can hear him now” in that overlay. It’s a subtle clue that Bruno is around and she can literally hear him haha
@st4rd14l3 жыл бұрын
she says, 'it's like i hear him now, i can hear him now' because mariano was on his way. later in the movie it is revealed that dolores has feelings for him, and that she can hear mariano making his way there. this being before camilo says, 'isabela, your boyfriend's here'
