I just remembered that back in the '80's, when I was a junior, I was always taught to tuck a long tee or folded old score card under the velcro of my glove so that it dug into my wrist if I was getting it wrong. I've only been back playing golf for 22 months now, after a 33 year hiatus, but every now and then little snippets come back to me like this. You have been monumental in my golf comeback, Danny! I'm playing off 8 now at my home course, but can play 5 over occasionally at Augusta National on my at home SIM. I play golf in one form or another every day now, but I sooooo wish I had my 16 year old body again! 😭😆. Thank you for helping me regain my love, and hate😂, for the game of golf!

Another great lesson by Danny the GOAT on the importance of a square clubface! I would only add that for most people, once they get the clubface square, they will initially hit a lot of pull hooks. That is to be expected since it will take some time to stop flicking or coming over the top. Don’t give up on the square clubface, the swing will follow. The hockey stick drill is an important part two to this video once you learn to get the clubface square. Do it!

Perfect timing as a reminder to me. I have become undisciplined with the lead wrist lately and have been hitting to the right. I just hit 75 balls in my garage with an increased focus on making sure the club face is closed at the top of the backswing - and then fire away. Yes! It felt good. Thanks.

Danny giving all the secrets today. From experience, this takes time to work into a golf swing. I hit a ton of bad shots trying to acquire these feels. It's repetition after repetition that will get you there. Most amateurs will give up on these drills after a bucket of balls because they may not get the desired results right away.

Great lesson. Q - I get confused around whether I am squaring that club face through impact and beyond (using my arms) or if you don't need to do that and are just relying on the turn. Both are completely different feelings and I'm not sure which is correct, especially if trying to get more distance.

If you are pulling the ball then your club path and face are aiming left at impact. Consider looking at alignment of body and even pushing the ball a little back in your stance

Thanks great tip, whenever I practice your tips though my persistent problem still remains. I have what I call the head yips, which sometimes can when I play badly be 90% of my round.(My head milliseconds before I hit the ball starts going in the direction of my swing, with the obvious result) I'm beginning to feel that I'm doing it so much it's now muscle memory!!! Danny are you aware that Ben Hogan didn't take a divot, he was a picker, not a digger. I have been working on this and as a result I think I have worked out for me that I am a bruiser. Picking it seems to result in too many thinned shots. Digging results in too many short shots, but Bruising the grass seems to give me the widest scope to hit a great strike each time.
@DanielMaudeКүн бұрын
I love the idea of bruising the grass
@markshepherd2779Күн бұрын
@DanielMaude feel free to use the idea. I have never heard anyone use that terminology before. You can apply it on a mat as well. It's audible+feel feedback on a mat and visual+feel on grass.

Hi Danny. I've been trying to do this and my contact has improved, but my ball keeps moving more and more left as it flies, like your shot at the 8:30 point in this video. How to you stop it from moving left?
@rw_golf63872 күн бұрын
Be patient and make sure you do the hockey stick drill correctly. Now that your club face is square at the top of your backswing you need to stop flicking or coming over the top. That was your old swing fault you needed to try and square the clubface at impact. If you now have a square clubface and still flick or come over the top, you will most likely hit pull hooks. The hockey stick drill will help but it will take time. The idea is once you see the ball going left long enough you will naturally stop flicking or coming over the top. Don’t give up on the square clubface. Once you master this, golf becomes much easier.

I could never get this straight wrist to work, because I did not rotate my arm. The top of my left hand would point straight ahead, instead of somewhat up to the sky. If I tried to straighten my wrist from that position, you get in really weird positions. Only when I understood that my arm needed to rotate could I get my wrist straight and get in position.
