Downloaded your ActivePedal config last night. And I amazed at how much I've been *missing* using elastomer-based load cell brake pedals. The curve that you use, the higher kg pressure, in conjunction with a longer throw really gives me control when trailbraking that I have *never* had before. I'll definitely make some minor tweaks to my own liking, but Thanks for sharing your expertise -- I'm excited to see how much time I can shave off my lap times, and how much more fun I will have using your setup as a starting point👏🏾

The active pedals mostly fit the use case of a "sim racing experience center", the ones you can pay by the hour to play on a rig. The center could create some very unique experiences for its customers thanks to these pedals, from an AE86 Tuned pedal feel, to a road legal Supercar feel, to a GT3/GT4 car feel to F1 pedal feel, all done with a few clicks from the driver. I do not see esports people investing into these with their own money, maybe if they get them thanks to sponsors..

Hey Daniel! Thanks as always for bringing the real world into simulation with your expertise & experience! I’m a lucky owner of two active pedals. Started with the brake, took a risk preordering. After months of using it and being amazed at its immersion, I got a second pedal for throttle. Having both pedals is insane for immersion, a point I think you might have missed in your conclusions. I get what you say about realism; I’m all about immersion over performance. Having effects on the active pedal and configuring its feel with a click is worth it, I think, even if it means losing the spring feel from a passive pedal. Also, sorry to ask but could you consider updating your SimuCube profiles for GT3 cars with the latest features of active pedal drivers? The feel has changed, and many like me use your profiles daily due to its realism. One more thing, a video idea: real forces in GT3 cars vs. iRacing telemetry. Telemetry can show crazy torque figures, wondering how realistic they are. Your insights could help us all create more realistic profiles. Thanks a million for what you do for the community! 🙏🏻🙌🏻

The price is pretty much justified by the components and the software they are using. Sure thing they could sell 1 set of pedal for 1.5k euros instead of 2.6k and still have a good margin, but comparing other pedals it is priced well. The servo motor costs around 500-700 euros with discounts + the software and the machining and the 2x margin :D. Now it is time for its competitors to come up with something like this with a competitive price like Simagic just did. Innovations => Competitors dev. => cheaper stuff for us lads! I am currently waiting for my simagic actuator and control box to arrive and somehow I will fit it on my Simtrecs GT Pros, costing around ~150euros as an upgrade kit. It may do only 60% of the simucube feedback, but I will be more than happy with that achivement at this price point. Captnkrunch

I keep looking at adding an Active Pedal and Passive Throttle to my setup, but just can't bring myself to hit "Buy" yet. 3 reasons main reasons holding me back... 1. I can't really fault my existing pedals (Meca Cup1), 2. I haven't adjusted my existing pedals in 2 years of ownership other than setting the feel up with the choice of elastomers, so not sure if I'd actually make any changes with an AP (maybe i haven't adjusted because it's not quick/easy, so knows!?) 3. Value for money perception - they're clearly not cheap, but are still affordable (for me) hence why Reason 3 and not 1 Any advice you can give to convince me that an AP/PT combo would be a good Xmas present to myself?
@marcusmiller826711 ай бұрын
I own the same pedals. I agree 100%. I might be encouraged to invest (if I had the money) in a pedal set with haptic feedback on the brakes, but otherwise I'm happy with my Meca Cup 1's.
@danielmorad11 ай бұрын
I don’t have any experience with that pedal set so I can’t speak to what they can do but I do know that compared to my previous pedal set (Heusinkveld Ultimate), the active pedals blow it out of the water in terms of what they can do. I can get a long pedal throw and maintain insane precision on the pedal. It’s something that I’ve never been able to do with any other pedal set. Also, I can adjust the pressure required for breaking with a simple click on a profile so switching between cars is super easy. For somebody who drives a GT3 and GT4 IRL, it makes it super handy to switch back-and-forth between the two profiles. There are subtle differences between the two of them, and it just helps me prepare for the real world.
@catnipherb11 ай бұрын
Would it be a good idea if Simucube make their active pedals provide force feedback like wheelbases do? For example the pedal push into your feet upon hard braking to simulate you being thrown forward. Or the pedal retract away from your feet (or feel very light) on full throttle from a stand still to simulate you being squashed into your chair. That way you will know how much the car is diving or squatting. So pedals give you front and rear force feedback while wheelbases already giving you left and right (roll and yaw) force feedback.
@danielmorad11 ай бұрын
That already exists, but it is not able to be implemented into iRacing just yet. It will be soon. They have a lot of cool new features and they are so open with their roadmap through a program called Trello.

I watched the whole video even I can’t afford these but still want to know what’s all going on in the simworld. Maybe future buy who knows. Also from your onboard footage like many other GT3 onboards… You mostly hustle the car around the corner with many steering actions which is so nice and I miss this so much on iRacing, that steering character. Hopefully one day we get this much active steering on iRacing.

Killer Video! I love when actual racing drivers give their take on pedal feel in sim racing. I've never driven a legit race car (hopefully one day before I'm dead lol) but I've done my share of heavily modifying cars over the years and I've also been fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to drive some pretty expensive high end performance cars that I would never be able to afford so I'm forever grateful for that. One thing that has always baffled me in the sim racing space is the idea that a brake pedal should be super stiff and have a small amount of travel. This seems absolutely absurd to me. There's never been any occasion I've experienced in the real world that that's been the case. Even on my most aggressive brake setups on my own "track prepped" cars it's never been that way. How can you properly modulate braking or even trail brake when you've only got like a 1/2" of total travel? Makes no sense to me. But that being said I've never driven a proper race car so I'd love to hear your take on this! Thanks!

Do you think a damper would be beneficial on the passive throttle? Or do you prefer a throttle pedal without damper?
@TobiwanKentobiSimracing11 ай бұрын
I was stoked about the active pedals right when they were announced, just because of the tech behind them. For sim racing they are a testament for how serious and mature this niche of gaming has become - YES, if you're honest this is gaming, on a very serious and technical level, but just like real racers we all do it for the challenge and the fun! I for one find these pedals too expensive for me, like I think you can get extremely good pedals for considerably less money. But I think Dan is right here, if you need/want specific characteristics you might need at least one of those as a brake. But I am just an amature bloke only seeking the thrill of racing in different cars/sims minus the danger and money burning of real racing... although I spent quite a bit on my pedal set, the Asetek Invicta S, recently upgraded with the Invicta clutch pedal... and these pedals are mighty fine, probably overkill due to the question wether a hydraulic piston system is really better than 'standard' load cell brakes... but I enjoy them, and they are way more adjustable than most people might think. But I can relate to all Dan says here and I am happy for anyone who want and can afford these active pedals. Especially what Dan says about the passive throttle: I think it is very similar to the Invicta, in terms of quality and smoothness. I put in the stiffest of the three available springs to be able to adjust the throttle better... most throttles on less expensive pedal sets are way too soft, making adjustability often very difficult.
@danielmorad11 ай бұрын
I appreciate the way you went about this comment. You are totally right. You need to get the equipment that will do what you wanted to do and also fit within your budget. The best gear is usually the gear that you can afford and get on the track with.

Thanks for the (always) great video. One thing of note might be that since most pedals come as a set, perhaps the more important component might be the brake. I would think most pedal sets of half way decent quality would have a respectable throttle. I have a pedal set that has a very good gas pedal, as well as a decent load cell brake. I'm happy with both, but I would definitely consider a brake upgrade (such as one with haptic feedback that responds to ABS and or chatter).

A lot of people have done the brake pedal upgrade but I always think it’s better to get the set so that you can actually sell your previous set as a complete set up. The haptics and feedback from the brake pedal is incredible.

It’s stiffer than a road car, but softer than what you would think a pedal would feel like. Everybody imagines a race car pedal as a brick wall but it certainly isn’t the case. There is a lot of feedback and travel in the brake pedal. I actually have some videos on this channel that shows it. You won’t be able to get the G29 anywhere close to stiff enough but it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with it. I think to even get in the ballpark of having a decent feeling, you need a load cell pedal.

Im sry but simucubes pedals before there active ones imo werent all that great. They werre very minimal for the price also. I felt like we got way more from so many other brands for a lesser price even. Even the ranky danky springs they used idk weird choices to then charge that much with something that cost less then many other pedals out there to make. They are louder then other pedals and imo not as smooth. Sure smooth but still a bit of drag. I mean even simagics p1000s feel better and more of a pedal set. P2000s especially with hydraulics. Then you have simlabs xp1 which are goated also. But now simucube has there active pedals so thank god because now it feels legit good even if still noisey the feedback of course changes everything. Luckily we have a few more manus coming out with active pedals also rven if for much less.

@Jaded_8611 ай бұрын
The Asetek wheelbase is going to be very similar to the simucube ultimate base (32nm one). if i am not mistaken, it uses the same motor and has the same slew rate as the simucube ultimate (I believe the forte and la prima bases use the motor from the simucube pro). the wheel base is buttery smooth and insanely responsive, plus the ecosystem is amazing. I have 3 wheels for the wheel base, the Asetek Tony Kanaan formula style wheel, a soelpec XR on the QR, and a plain Momo replica round wheel on the QR and all work flawlessly for different driving experiences. the biggest drawback is that the bolt pattern for mounting the wheelbase is not a standard bolt pattern and so you have to buy their front, bottom, or tilt mount if you dont want to drill into a universal wheel base mount to align the holes. I personally opted for the front mount because it integrated the power button/torque cutoff buttons while offering the best adjustment. other than that, I have yet to find any other complaints with the wheel base other than software setup with some games like Dirt 2.0 or Automobilista 2 can be a hassle.
