As an owner of the active pedal, passive throttle & baseplate, I can only agree with your comments Dave. I've had them about 3mths & feel the brake pedal is the only necessary one to own, its incredible how consistent it is. The passive throttle is the best throttle I've ever had also. Previously had Sprints, V3's & Invictas. My iRating has gone from a constant 2.2-2.3k to now being over 2.6/7 & feel i can improve more. Yes they are a lot of money, but for me & the enjoyment level, worth every penny. Great video as always Dave

Me too. Have 1 x active pedal and the passive throttle. I am improving constantly thanks to them, enjoy them immensely and subjectively for me they are worth it. I would not expect that to be the case for everybody and I am sure I get regularly beaten by people with less complex rigs and more talent than I will ever have.
@liamconway39653 ай бұрын
@@Nikki_Tr that's the thing, it's not about how others feel, it's about what you get out of them. Yes the price seems crazy, yes we get beat by people on lower end gear, but as long as we are having fun & getting value from them, happy days.

@liamconway3965 I have the fanatec V3's and hate them as the 90KG V3 brake is too soft so I struggle with modulation. Did you see much difference in sprints vs the V3's? I was looking at Ultimate's if I decide an AP is just to much for a controller. I also expect other's will come to market soon and pricing should come down.
@Nikki_Tr3 ай бұрын
@@RK-ql8ue I had the V3's for nearly 4 years before I upgraded to the Active pedals and like you I really struggled with modulating the brakes and trail braking. I went through about 6 months of debating whether to buy the Asetek's or the Ultimates. Dave and Dan Suzuki make the most important point of all which is the ease of adjustment hence there is no penalty for trying different settings - it doesn't require an hour on your hands and knee's changing elastomers or dampers. Only now am I starting to discover how poor my braking really is given the active pedal is completely predictable. For what little it is probably worth if you can afford a single active pedal and passive throttle you won't regret it. The other point of note is that you don't have to worry about not 'getting on' with them because you can make it feel however you want it to be. I have found I need about 60-70kg of force to get to the threshold point but with quite a long travel which would be almost impossible to setup up mechanically on another set of pedals. In the end I booked a test session at Demon Tweeks and tried them out - after that it was only a question of persuading my debit card to go in the machine!

You can also set up your left pedal as a brake and have the middle one drop all the way back out of the way for 2-pedal car profiles and pop over to a hand clutch.

If I could actually afford active pedals, this would actually be a huge incentive to buy them 😂 I’ve wondered about how the active pedals would work in this context bc I hate left foot braking on a middle pedal but I want to go drifting sometimes

This was an excellent review, showed really well the use cases. I think they are the future ultimately. The feedback will improve and the functions will too. There's something to be said about active throttle and clutch if you like driving around on a wide variety of cars and if your sim could talk to the pedals to reproduce their feel. I also feel like we're gonna see these in real cars, to simulate more feel as we move to electric cars and drive by wire controls...

I think that was the video I was looking for. THANK YOU VERY MUCH DAVE!!! I was torn apart from the choice to get a Simucube active and passive pedal or HE Ultimate+ 2 pedal set. Since I am moving from console to PC with a 8nm DD Pro right now, I have lots of money to spend ahead, $1000 for triples with a stand, $2000 for a adequate PC, $2000 for a Simucube 2 Pro plus steering wheel, $1000 if I choose the Ultimate + pedals and may be need to change my Track Racer TR80 lite for that 25nm steering torque, may be not but that is another $800 plus the iRacing subscription of $200 for 2 years. That is $7000 at once. I would definitely get the PC and triples first, than the wheel base and HE Ultimates, and after couple of years an active pedal when is half the price or technology allows for more affordable alternatives with the same feedback from variety of manufacturers!!!

Best review of this pedal so far. Detailing how beneficial it is to have various brake profiles for different cars and how it’s impacted, positively, your racing is what I was hoping to hear. Thank you for the review Dave! I hope Simucube lets you keep at least one of the active pedals for your marketing work for them. I’d like to make the jump but $3k usd for one AP, throttle, and base is very steep. I might have to spend a bit more time looking at the the GitHub project where you can build an AP for well under 50% the price.

You know, Sim Racing can be a very costly hobby. But to be fair: every hobby kind of is, dependend on how serious you are with it. If you are into Photography and want to shoot sports, you need a Sony A1 or A9 or similiar with a very fast 70-200 lens or even 300+. This combo alone would set you back at least 5.000... so, it's all relative...Some buy an expensive motorcycle, where a old used one would have been sufficient...
@Aleksandar-r4b19 күн бұрын
@@carroux4050 It depends how you are looking at it. I thought, that I would never spend a $1000 for a seat and wheel for gaming, Now my rig is at $3000 and upgrading to $8000 in the next couple of months - it is crazy. Before I started sim racing I thought of buying a used car and getting it ready for autocross and track days. Quick math and you are looking at $20 000 just to start plus all the fees, inspections and you can not go every day and neither every weekend and you can visit a 2-3 tracks in 300 mile radius only, so I made my choice. I am now looking at it as an extremely affordable racing instead of a very expensive gaming. I can race right after work, anywhere in the world at any time with a zero race and inspection fees and zero maintenance and transportation costs. Did I forget to mention - a crash doesn't cost me a single cent and to have fun racing you have to push, and if you push you are going to crash at some point 100%!!! When you think how expensive sim racing is, just remind yourself that only 1 set of racing slicks for a normal car is $2000!!! NOW GET A CUP OF COFFEE OR TEA AND ENJOY SIM RACING :)

For example, let's say you use an Indycar and a NASCAR Truck, which would have totally differely braking feels because they are totally different. I’m a Simucube2 fanboy, love my base. With these pedals The rumble on the pcup or any other car that you can add this is a “cheat” imo. I’m basing this on what you get in real life. Cars with abs yes, you’ll feel a small rumble in the pedal. I’m old enough to have been around when abs came to road cars. I worked for Cadillac and they used Bosch in the first abs. They pumped back so hard that you thought It was going to break your leg lol. This is a great product but it’s not for sim racing if you can produce “cheats” and cheats as I mentioned above if they’re not what your feeling in the Pcup or other cars without abs.

It's turning a sim that's supposed to feel like a real car and making it a physical algorithm instead of just getting better at a skill. If I did the 80% brake cheat I'd hate myself every time my foot used the brake pedal. Then again I'm not on iRacing and I don't race competitively, so I also don't care if I lock up my brakes and it's my fault.

Re reading the comment (since it's been a little while since I've seen the video), this to me is "cheating" too if you use a vibration that comes on at 80%. If you're replicating actual tire lock up, that's normal, if you have a sensor shaking your body that you hit 80% brake pressure, that's kind of cheesing it in my book.

I don’t have the simucube active pedals yet but plan to, I have the HE+ with the simagic haptics and on my throttle I have engine acceleration, gear change and traction lost and it works great, the clutch would be useless because my motion system has a strong gear change and pressing on the gas just feels so much better on your foot and gear change adds a lot more to the immersion.

@@davecamyt I agree. I know it wont be as good as Simucubes. But if its close, and much less money then its a win. We will see.

$2k per pedal!?! Heck no!
@ettorebugatti68463 ай бұрын
That price 😁, a 2500€ bargain for 1 active pedal

Most people the price for the complete pedal set alone equals almost what they have invested in their entire rig including the computer tower and monitors. At what point does one say enough is enough as far as driving their pretend car around the pretend track and admitting at the end of the day this is nothing really but a game?

If only SimuCUBE can get that price down. I like sim racing but not $3400aud likes for one blasted pedal?! For that price, they need to improve your lap times consistently by 1 secs+ per hot lap. Don't want to sell a kidney on the black market to get one.

If your kidney's are in good health you can probably get a two pedal set

For that money I can buy good used car with all the systems including airconditioner.

And then go make that car track ready and run it on a race track....
