I'm really starting to think that a lot of the "Oh, that might have been an inaccuracy by me" moments are Danya making moves that he knows will keep his opponent in the game. He's good enough to keep it entertaining, make reasonable moves and still win as long as his opponent is at a decent enough level.

Danya played a sub-optimal opening that he doesn't specialise in (he admits as much during the game), and yet still had a winning position by move 19 (-3 if he found Rc7 instead of 19.Kxg7). The only reason the opponent was able to hang on was that he was allowed to. It's crazy how even high-level players jump to cheating accusations, when the proof is readily available in the analysis: believe it or not, even GMs are human and have poor games sometimes. Especially when tired/hungry/streaming/ all of the above.

Yeah, I just analyzed this game and while there was a stretch of him getting top engine moves time after time in the midgame and I started to get suspicious, by the end the overall play was not that of an engine (Or at least stockfish). There was no discernable pattern other than "This guy really knows his stuff and is REALLY good or having the game of his existence". The overall accuracy for white was 77.9% and he had 3 blunders. Amusingly, he had 6 Mistakes+Blunders, and so did Daniel, just 5 mistakes and a single blunder. Daniel had a brilliant though.

Any time an untitled player comes close to drawing a GM, your red flags should go up... it's obvious lol. No other knowledge necessary other than ratings difference. I don't care if you're having the game of your life, you don't magically have calculation powers of a GM who see several lines many moves ahead and has STUDIED CHESS ALL THEIR LIFE AND ARE IN THE NBA OF CHESS. IMs struggle to win any games against a GM, but any random 1500 can come close to a draw xD give me a break.

Definitely cheating. A master chess player once told me he doesn't play online chess, I asked why, he said "because online everybody is a master" . You have to think, how 'popular' chess has become, it's mainstream and has attracted a lot of people.. but anyone who's played knows it takes years to even become decent. There's no short cut. So obviously there will be a lot of wanna be's that don't want to wait that long to feel like they're playing chess like the cool streamer guys. And don't forget to be impressive enough to play as well as the botez hotties. Stockfish does a good job of that.

Guys, this game is still very instructive on how to question White's center and a lot of tactical ideas and calculation, I don't think he was cheating, all his games he does the same set up of delaying c4 and fianchetto, he found nice moves (which is easier with the side with more space which he had) his plan was fairly easy for an intermediate to understand (control the center) and he made fairly mistakes that were hard to find for a intermediate player, Naroditsky in the other hand found a very good forcing calculating move like Nfxd5, Black has less space and have to play in a dynamic sense which is harder, he just seems very underrated and just someone that doesn't play online a lot.

Sorry but the engine use is obvious if Danya didn't mention it. If you have ever watched any GM rapid games you know how insane it is with their calculation, no one can match that. stop being so gullible as to think a random 1500 player can match a 2600+ Fide player without using the engine a here and there, it's comical xD. Watch any GM speedruns too, they can decimate 2400 on chess.com like they are 1000s. Hikaru, Aman.. etc all go undefeated for 100+ games without a sweat. I'm 1500 and I found ~90% of the moves since most were kinda obvious or forcing. Now for the other 10% like Re3. Do they look like computer moves? To me, no just over my lvl. So in my opinion the data suggests an underrated opponent. Am I sure he didnt cheat? No, but throwing around accusations like that is irresponsible and childish. Except if you're the world chess champion of course.

I've played the Grunfeld for decades in OTB chess, starting as a 1400(USCF) player and progressing to 2000. It was the first opening where I learned not by rote memorization, but by knowing the "general principles," as well as the recurring tactical themes if White errs. It worked very well against opponents rated up through 1900, since the Grunfeld is not that common, few players, below a certain rating, had a prepared "pet-line" against it. However, once you begin to face opponents that are close or beyond expert strength, you will face prepared lines, and there are 7 or 8 different lines with concrete variations that you must know to survive. And the problem is that with so may options to White's avail, you may go many games (even many years) where you face a certain critical line. It's a lot of work to stay up on the theory, especially whey you become known as a "Grunfeld player," and others start gunning for you.

Wow what a crazy complicated middlegame. When I put the game jnto Stockfish, it even mentioned that Nd4 is much strongwr than Nb4 because after Qd3, Nxf3 Qxf3, you don’t jave to move the bishop on e6! You could slam down Nxd5 and it still works because the knight on a3 is really vulnerable. Also, in the game you took on g7 without considering a lot of other options, which seemed like a very practical decision, but amazingly Stockfish suggests to go Rc7 with a discovery on b3 first. I have no idea what’s going on in that line honestly… That would have been a total engine move if you found that I think

This is why I don’t like playing the Grunfeld as a 1500. Very dense theory and you get sharp positions that players like this one thrive in where there’s often only one or two good moves to choose from so they play with almost perfect accuracy even against a super GM. I’d rather be passive in a QID or Pirc and wait for my opponent to make a positional blunder which are very common at this level.

On the other hand, you can basically kill 90% sub-1800 just by playing sharp theoretical openings. I remember fixing my repertoire and coming out +3-+5 out of main lines + opponent "novelty" at the end. Najdorf vs e4, Grünfeld vs QG with black and QG/Catalan with white carried me a long way. Playing into a QID/Ragozin sometimes is fun too, although I don't know enough to not come out slightly worse against good prep.

20:10 there was this moment when you suddenly looked excited about something in the position. I paused the video and found the tactic, but I only did the easy part. What's impressive is the ability to find all the tactical ideas in the position at any time, specially when your bishop is hanging. Looks simple enough but i wouldnt have come up with that tactic myself in a million years. To see the bigger picture and be constantly alert for tactical motives is definately a game changer

I've been playing for a while in the 1400 to 1600 elo range and I have yet to find someone as strong as the person playing white. Pretty sure his performance for this game has to be a lot higher. Someone from this level knowing this much theory is by my experience, doubtful, and at that level, almlst everybody blunders big time. To hang in there vs Danya until the very end game, it's just 🤔

If I had to guess its that white has a lot of moves that just neutralize the kings indian and make it dry for black and black is worse, however in the Grunfeld if you play boring black will always get a better endgame (The grunfeld is also very exciting theoretically speaking)

I think Naroditsky once said you should play the Gruenfeld when you achieve 2000 or something like that

Yeah because he believes in teaching the absolute basics first: Develop, put pawn in center. What he probably calls the soviet schoolboy approach. The Gruenfeld ignores those principles and therefore might teach a beginner and intermediate player the wrong things. Why he changed his recommendation I don't know. His reasoning was solid.

Why is this guy 1550? It makes no sense. If you have the opening knowledge, tactics and positional skill, plus the endgame technique to fight a GM this hard, then how is it possible to be this low? It's got to be another GM climbing the board or something.
