35:40 I don't understand something here, pls explain. The move sequence cr1tikal said, Daniel said he can take the queen. But even if he doesn't take the queen, then and things go like Rf2, Rf2 Qe1. But the thing is there's no undefended forking square for knight, if he proceeds with Nf3, then white replies with pawn takes knight. Then he also can't fork queen and king with rook. What was the point?

39:35 lol I agree that marshals combination was convoluted and for show as he could’ve achieved the same result with knight e2+ then king h1 then you can deliver check with the knight on g3, since the king is on h1 the h2 pawn is pinned so you can’t take the knight with h2, if you take with the f2 pawn it’s checkmate because Rxf8 is backrank so the only way his opponent can stop this is Qxg3 and once that happens you can take back with rook with Rxg3. If you notice the rook is still attacking the queen that’s on c3 but it doesn’t matter because if he takes the queen you take back with the rook that’s on g3 and you are up a rook, if he takes the rook on g3 you will be up a queen because you’ll be able to take his rook after he takes yours, lol well hopefully I didn’t miss something and this combination works. Edit: after knight g3 check the king can just go back to g1 so never mind, I assumed knight g3 was checkmate and queen takes g3 was forced, damn that would’ve been a cool combination lmao

27:30 Alright, I’m no GM, obviously, so please correct my mistake in trying to understand whether or not this is checkmate: Nxd4 Qxd4, Bb5+Qd7, Bxd7+Bxd7, Qxd7+Kxd7, .... Then, what? You pursue with Nc5+? If Black does Ke8, you cannot pursue with knight any further, and you have traded a bishop, a knight, and your queen for each of theirs? Do you develop Rd1? Then what happens if Be7? You have minimal center control outside of knight and rook, right? You also have material advantage, so it seems very advantageous in that sense. But checkmate? Am I missing a variation in the sequence?
@kelsier60904 жыл бұрын
I dont believe he said checkmate just that white wins the game after taking the queen cause having that much material up is an auto win
@samuellanghus14554 жыл бұрын

The position at 17:18 seems legit like a free piece, I dont understand why go to improve the position when the fast material advantage could bring results faster. This is done by Rxe6, this attacks the qeen and also the bishop which then can be taken again by the rook, I dont see a way to defend this threat even if they capture the rook back by the queen its a trade of queens and the rook on d8 is also taken.

27:30 you wouldn't win the queen because of where the knight is on e7. when white bishop goes b5 check, the black knight can block with c6 and protect the queen on d4. Although this is only because the black knight was on that spot instead of how the typical french has it on g6, not e7.
