A 1470 is more an intermediate than a beginner; that 1470 player would have destroyed most of the pogchamps, given Voyboy and Hutch a good game - who are not beginners either. In this game there were no obvious blunders, neither were there clear strategic misplays of the position. But when you play a grandmaster like Danya that's not enough. Until 13.0-0-0 black's position was equal if not better, but the 13..c5 tactic backfired.

A nice line I saw at 31:30 Best move is Rxe2, Qxe2, Qd5+, Kh8, and the simple Qxc6. If after Kh8... white tries Nxa8, black has Qxc2+, Kxc2 and Nb4+ winning the queen back. Still completely losing but a their best try. Similarly if after Rxe2 black tries Nxd4, just Rxe6, Nxe6, Nxa8. Despite the knight looking trapped in the corner, white can just play Re1 and the moment the black king steps onto the e-file to get closer to the knight you can move the knight back to c7 because of the pin. I know none of this matters because you're up so much material for crying out loud but thought it was cool and wanted to share.

16:37 what an interesting position. For a while (I am using a chess engine along) the top 3 moves for White would have 2 moves in the positive and usually the third move is a big negative for black, while the second best move also lowers your score. This game felt like tortoise and the hare. Daniel was so behind in time with explaining but after a few crucial moves the other player took way longer to make their moves which ended with Daniel's time up by 7 minutes, crazy

Thank you! You touched upon several weaknesses of beginners: knee-jerk reaction, being lost in the middle game; not able to win a "won" game. I picked up a lot of solid ideas. Please keep these going. You are a great teacher.

Love this content! I recently broke chess.com 1300 and I'm finally really starting to put positional and attacking or defending ideas together, and how they relate to board structure and opening moves. Hearing a GM talk about moves, watch a plan have to get changed (against someone 1150 points lower, no less), and have everything be as-a-matter-of-fact, in full-command, but still just... _chess_ was really refreshing and instructive. If I may be so bold as to give a tip - don't worry if you stumble with your words. We don't care! Just roll along. We're still listening, I promise :D

The thing I love with chess Grandmasters is that every time you assume they make some "obviously bad" move, they always continue with "BUT-". It's fascinating, they always find a way to disobey the main chess principles if necessary to improve their position. These types of analytic videos are very entertaining, and educational too. I love it.

After my Gf and I started playing (with a bit of an understanding of beginner tactics) I've been looking for videos that help with moving towards more intermediate strategy and advancing my game. And godamn, I have learned more from your 2 vs. beginners videos than pretty much everything else I've tried to watch/read. So thank you, you definitely have a new fan and subscriber.

I would not have off the cuff thought this type of series to have proved as instructional as it has! Daniel it's been outstanding that how through your excellent commentary and not to speedy reviews - rewinds, you make it so clear and understandable in it's instructional value. PLEASE, I'm so stuck on seeing the difference and advantages of playing the modern as opposed to the Pirc. This simple understanding has always eluded me personally. I so hope you will title a video addressing the question. Greatly appreciated from this major supporter / viewer that Shares your generosity. most sincere thanks on this. Blessings from Oregon, ... Mike.

Well this is honestly a really great place to start. This guy is an amazing player, and sure he's not a "top player"" but I would say he is the strongest chess teacher on KZbin that is also great at explaining his thoughts. All chess Grandmasters are insanely good at chess, but he's great at explaining why he is doing what he is doing, as well as being an elite player.
