A 1470 is more an intermediate than a beginner; that 1470 player would have destroyed most of the pogchamps, given Voyboy and Hutch a good game - who are not beginners either. In this game there were no obvious blunders, neither were there clear strategic misplays of the position. But when you play a grandmaster like Danya that's not enough. Until 13.0-0-0 black's position was equal if not better, but the 13..c5 tactic backfired.

A nice line I saw at 31:30 Best move is Rxe2, Qxe2, Qd5+, Kh8, and the simple Qxc6. If after Kh8... white tries Nxa8, black has Qxc2+, Kxc2 and Nb4+ winning the queen back. Still completely losing but a their best try. Similarly if after Rxe2 black tries Nxd4, just Rxe6, Nxe6, Nxa8. Despite the knight looking trapped in the corner, white can just play Re1 and the moment the black king steps onto the e-file to get closer to the knight you can move the knight back to c7 because of the pin. I know none of this matters because you're up so much material for crying out loud but thought it was cool and wanted to share.

I would not have off the cuff thought this type of series to have proved as instructional as it has! Daniel it's been outstanding that how through your excellent commentary and not to speedy reviews - rewinds, you make it so clear and understandable in it's instructional value. PLEASE, I'm so stuck on seeing the difference and advantages of playing the modern as opposed to the Pirc. This simple understanding has always eluded me personally. I so hope you will title a video addressing the question. Greatly appreciated from this major supporter / viewer that Shares your generosity. most sincere thanks on this. Blessings from Oregon, ... Mike.

Your commentary and description of tactics is rather brilliant to listen to. You make it all seem so clear and simple. It always inspires me to start a game. And then I get utterly destroyed.

Well this is honestly a really great place to start. This guy is an amazing player, and sure he's not a "top player"" but I would say he is the strongest chess teacher on KZbin that is also great at explaining his thoughts. All chess Grandmasters are insanely good at chess, but he's great at explaining why he is doing what he is doing, as well as being an elite player.

Excellent video! Please continue to produce this kind of content, it's deeply appreciated. Not everyone is a GM, and not everyone is able to properly explain their thought process, but you can do both. Subscribed!

These videos are amazing. I'm in awe listening to this guy dissect his opponent in realtime, and he speaks in such simple terms.

36:20 Here's a good example of how luck favors the good (so it's not really luck, but nice when it happens) as well as how a lower rated/less powerful player may allow a stronger one to flex! Great lesson. Thx.

Thanks, Daniel. I guess I assumed when you say "beginner," that it would not be someone who played as well as that opponent.

This opponent is ranked above 1400 which is far from beginner if you ask many. But it's also hard to define when you're not a beginner anymore :)
