I absolutely agree! I haven't come across another chess channel where the teachings are so succint yet elaborative and incredibly full of insight of all sort of things. A. He doesn't "immediately" play it. He plays it 2 moves later. And only after giving a detailed explanation of why. Even if he does admit that it's a bit drastic. . B. You weren't listening every well because he says (around 14:52) that it will not stay boring forever and when the time comes for confrontation, the placement of pieces will matter greater. Funny enough I was going add a comment about how those that say boring position are no fun are the precisely the ones that make a mistake in the "boring" part and ran over fast. They get their wish on makes the game fun.. just not for them because they'll be their ass whipped.

"I think plans are overrated." (14:21) I agree! This past year, I reevaluated my chess and discovered that that one of my weaknesses is not realizing that there is nothing really to do. In the past, I often tried to make something happen when there was really nothing to do. It often happens where your opponent has a solid position where there really is no "plan" other than trying to improve your position. If your pieces are well-placed and harmonizing, a plan will eventually come.

If you play e4 try out the Scotch. At my level of 1500 it seems ridiculously strong. A lot of people don't even see the checkmate threat from the Scotch Gambit. 🤣

Don't get me wrong I love Levy and I love Agadmator, but I whole-heartedly believe Danya deserves to be the #1 chess channel on KZbin.

I think they all are good at different things and quite complement each other. For instance Levy, who I also follow, is great for beginners and intermediate players. He is more engaging and probably the best at getting new people into chess. Danya is more advanced and thorough; he's not for beginners. His explanations are amazing, but takes a lot for granted from the audience. As I said, both are great. Choosing "sides" (e.g., Levy or Danya, Agadmator vs. Danya, etc.) is. pointless and outright harmful. Many people like to do that, but it's wrong.

Levy is very entertaining in addition to also being instructive. But when it comes to purely instructive content (not that these videos aren't 'entertaining' in their own right) I feel like Daniel has no equal on YT, at least not from the channels I've checked out so far.

At 15:27 I wonder about Qc2 by White instead of Bc2. It sets up a Q+B battery, and inhibits the B-swap by Black, at least in the immediate term. It may also start to threaten invading with Ne5 because if ...Be5 de, ...Nmoves, the h7 pawn is en prise. Note the N cannot go to e4 because of the Q+B lineup rather than as in the game. Wonder if Bc2 was thinking in terms of a Turton manoeuvre, with the WQ backed up by WB targeting h7, but as per the game continuation it fails to set the WQ and WB that way round, because it lets Black exchange the Bishops in a way that favours the second player.

As a user who uses and wants to play Vienna opening only, I barely play f4 gambit. because after 3.f4 d5 it becomes really tricky position for white, and everybody knows that at my level (1600 ~ 1700), it's just too risky to play. so if you want to play Vienna, there's some moves after 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6. 3.Nf3 (transposes to petrov defense), 3.g3 (Mieses Variation), 3.Bc5 (Stanley Variation, mostly transposes to Bishops opening) and even 3.d4, 3.a3, 3.h3 are better than 3.f4 gambit according to stockfish

You talked about how important it is to know how to play "boring positions." This is why I play the Slav Exchange variation as White. Slav players *hate* this precisely because it is boring. I have studied the nuances of that variation, however. I can recognize a mistake very easily. Boring your opponent to death is a psychological tactic - especially if they're an aggressive, attacking player.

Apart from like, highschool and junk, I basically restarted chess right at the beginning of the boom. Like I started playing at the start of december. I'm about 2k games in now, so yeah, it grabbed me pretty good I played Queen's gambit for about a month, switched to King's, and a couple of weeks ago, I switched to Vienna. It looked stronger, felt stronger, and by all accounts, is stronger, but I'm actually not really, like, viscerally clear on why it's so much stronger. Is it just because it's more flexible? It reduces black's options? I dunno, but I'm liking it anyways I'm 800, and that was a crap tonne of work just to get there. They reckon you're still a beginner till you break out of triple digits, so that's my goal for now. Just want to crack a thousand.
