i would love to hear you play both chambers at once!
@pottersdog4 жыл бұрын
You should make a "wet chamber" for slow drying, only costs a couple bucks/pounds and means you can leave the peice in it for a couple days to diffuse the water it has through the entire peice. You get a small scalable plastic tub that fits it, put a small slightly damp paper towel in the corner (not touching it and not dripping with water) and put it in a cold dark place. A couple days later it's all equally wet/dry but not overly so since the water diffuses through the clay rather than into the air of a large room.

Very good work! Now, a walkthrough about how to make a triple chamber ocarina could be very interesting. Triple chamber ocarinas currently are insanely expensive and commercially hard to obtain, with prices between 64 and 400 dollars...

thanks a lot for your videos, I was wondering how the double ocarina works and I think that you explained it really well.
@firrevo27998 жыл бұрын
i think you need to get a plaster mold and stick to a more defined ocarina body shape, its better for cranking out more ocarinas with the same volume and they look nicer, i did my double ocarinas on a plaster mold and selling them became more effective, its cool that you sell nice sounding ocarinas but it needs alittle work, design design design stick to one and you could get successful business, you can take or throw away this advice it doesnt matter but its cool that you got somewhere with your ocarinas, just keep practicing and do what you do and good luck ace!

patricia Hampel how does one make money with clay I'd love to get into it IV made many ocarinas already but it seems like the actual selling anything part is the hardest I got real weird with it went and dug my own clay n all that
@patriciathegreat7 жыл бұрын
Hello. I sell my work at Portland saturday market in Portland Oregon and some online. Digging your own clay is way too much work and you always have to add things to the clay to make it workable. I buy my own clay ready to use 100 pounds at a time. I am fortunate that i have a crazy talent for making interesting creatures. Google my name and you should be able to see some of my creatures.

Hi, i'm a bit new to Ocarinas. When you add another chamber, do the notes on the previous ones go down an octave? I see the chart for the notes, but it's for a 3 chamber! Also, how do you know what base notes each of the holes should be?
@DanielOcarinas9 жыл бұрын
+Soukapella The 2nd chamber is higher pitched then the first to extend the range. For example, if the highest note on the 1st chamber is C# then the lowest note on the 2nd chamber would be one note higher then that which would be D.A Double ocarina and a Triple have the exact same fingering except for the fact that the Triple has 1 more chamber.Ocarinas can be in any key but if you want the base note to be C then every hole covered on the first chamber EXCEPT sub holes should produce C. I am working on a Double Ocarina tuned to C right now actually but by covering it's 3 sub holes it can go from it's base note of C5 down to G4. Once adding holes from the base note each new hole either adds 1 or 2 notes depending on what hole it is. The chart on my website should be able to help with that. Be sure to let me know if you have any more questions. :)
@soukapella65109 жыл бұрын
+Ace Ocarinas Oh wow, yeah it makes sense they are just exensions! and I just remembered that clay shrinks, isn't it best to make them a tiny bit bigger?
@DanielOcarinas9 жыл бұрын
+Soukapella Right. Some clay shrinks more then other clay though. When I use a new clay for the first time and do not know how much it will shrink I make the ocarina in either Eb or Bb. The reason for that is if it shrinks a little bit it will either be in E or B but if it shrinks a lot it will be in F or C. As there is no sharp or flat between E & F or B & C there is very little chance of it coming out in a weird key no matter how much it shrinks.
@soukapella65109 жыл бұрын
Ah boy this makes ocarins seem so complex, basic knowledge of music is definitely needed for them. Thank you for your awesome replies, if I have any more questions i'll be sure to ask!

+Soukapella Having chats to go off of really helps when making ocarinas. I still have the original chart I made to help me tune ocarinas on my table just in case I need it. Well I hope the replies helped enough. :)

I recently glazed one of my ocarinas, and it came out craterous, and lumpy; I made sure that the layers were even, no contaminants got in, an there was no air going through. What is the problem?
@DanielOcarinas9 жыл бұрын
How old was the glaze?
@Kiweh999 жыл бұрын
***** about 1 - 2 months
@DanielOcarinas9 жыл бұрын
Hmm. I have had this problem before. Try adding a little bit of water to the glaze or try putting on a few very thin coats over and over. That should prevent air bubbles for forming.
@Kiweh999 жыл бұрын
***** Thank you for the advice! I will try this once I have an ocarina available to glaze. I will tell you the result, I actually have one in A being made

Wonderful video! I'm working on a Fantasy novel and have recently decided the main character's instrument of choice will be the ocarina. You seem to be *very* knowledgeable about them. Would you happen to have time to answer some questions? I can't promise they won't be stupid.
@DanielOcarinas9 жыл бұрын
Sure ask away. Sounds interesting.
@nathanhall93459 жыл бұрын
Thank you! :) I guess my first question is: I've read that ocarinas in general are thousands of years old. However, I haven't really seen anything about how old multiple-chambered ocarinas are. Do you happen to know anything regarding that?
@DanielOcarinas9 жыл бұрын
Nathan Hall There are ancient multi-chamber ocarinas but from everything I've seen they were not used to increase the playable range. They would play two chambers at the same time for harmony like this ocarina here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/anvXlWN9bbSXY7s They were very popular in the pre-Columbian era in Central and South America. Some even had 3 chambers but one of the 3 chambers would not have any holes and would just be a continuous single note.
@nathanhall93459 жыл бұрын
For some reason, I didn't get the notification for this like I should have. -_- Wow! That's really interesting! Thanks! Would they have been capable, do you think, of making a double ocarina to extend the range? Is that plausible? What would have held them back from it? Since I'm working in a secondary world, I can stretch things a bit, but if it's a difference of centuries, I might have to stick with a single ocarina.
@DanielOcarinas9 жыл бұрын
Nathan Hall Their ocarinas definitely were not for range, or maybe they were and they didn't know how to add more then 5 notes. Harmony ocarinas that have 2 mouth pieces together like theirs could potentially be played separately and increase the range by just ignoring the first 2 holes on the higher chamber. So while it seems the main reason for 2 chambers was for harmony it is not out of the question that they could also have been used for a higher range. The harmony ocarina I showed you has a mouth piece like that where it's main design is just to do harmony songs it can also be used as a double ocarina for a higher range. I have some old charts for that ocarina you can look at to better understand how this works. These are both for the same ocarina but used differently. I'm trying to do something with some white amco(?) clay that I have, I can't get the water to clay consistency right so is dries to fast, crumbles and is hard to work with. I tried making I simple small ocarina and its not working out. What am I doing wrong? (I am a beginner. I heart ocarina would be awesomely cute.)
@DanielOcarinas9 жыл бұрын
+yogogoyogirlyogogoyo It sounds like you need to rework your clay. Add a lot of water and keep molding and reworking it until it is even. If you are still having trouble you could always have a custom order made on our site. I have made a heart shaped ocarina before.
