Good evening Mr. Daniel Storage, I am from Iraq, a master’s student. Please help me to send me a study that talks about a detailed theory of mind. Thank you for your help.

I think there's a group of people who think that it was implied Sally already looked in her basket

I found this through looking up mindblindness after finding out it's supposedly a possible symptom of autism. Thank you for this great explanation. I really appreciate it over the other information I got about the subject. I have autism. Discovering some people don't think we have this ability feels insulting! OF COURSE Sally would look in her basket first! And I would have said the same thing as a child. She can't know what happened in her absence, so she would rely on logic. Furthermore, I have the sense to know that if someone is grumpy they might have had a bad day, etc. We DO have empathy and logic.

As an adult of course I would say the basket, but as a child I would have definitely said she´d look in the box first. To this day I sometimes have trouble remembering that people can have a different opinion or knowledge base than my own and need to actively remind myself of it. It´s just a symptom that can occur in autism, I don´t think it´s meant to be insulting or disparaging.

But where would Sally look after she finds out her basket is empty? She would assume Anne stole it and put it in the box, so eventually she would peek into both containers.

@@Joseph-no6sn Of course I got it, you idiot. I just offered an alternative solution. It doesn't make sense that when Sally looks into the basket and doesn't find anything that she just stops looking. When you fail to find your cell phone within 5 seconds do you just give up?

@@Joseph-no6sn If the question was "Where does Sally think the ball is?" then the answer would obviously be the basket, but the question is where will she look.

The question should be "where does she look first"

It seems like the Sally Anne test requires more working memory than it does Theory of Mind.

yeah I looked it up and "theory of mind" i.e. passing the Sally-Anne test seems to improve as soon as WM improves...Could it be that the test tests WM and does not test ToM? The children have to keep track of who is where when and who knows what, it's a lot
@swagatron900

idk because i've heard that there were 2 control questions to check that the children remembered the story and understood it

@@swagatron900 but they ask for understanding immediately after the shared fact. so repeating previous fact passes. They didn't have to hold multiple facts to pass the listening check. it should be physical and if they can see ann the kids might think so can Sally on her walk. they need her to turn around and close her eyes in frame so kids don't think Sally is watching

No they've done it with puppets and people. It would only require memory of 1 objects location, so I doubt WM is affecting resulrs.

Sally knows that Anne is a thieving little brat. No need to waste time looking into the basket. Or, Sally knows that Anne is her servant, and expects her to clean up after her, putting the toy is the more appropriate container. Anne is very much like our politicians :" You're right, Sally. It must be in there. Keep looking!"
