Often times people are obsessed with productivity but have no meaning with why they spend timing doing what they do. Great video!

This video came right on time for me. I’ve been suffering of a very subtle burnout that has been increasing over the weeks and even if I try to force myself to get back into my routines, I just can’t. Now I realized that I can’t control time, every time. Thank you so much, Daniel ❤️

Crazy good video. Relatable. Worked hard at work and achieved something big time that I wanted. Lost my physique / a degree of my health and a relationship all the meanwhile. Some of us have to learn the hard way and really embody the lessons we learn.

Hi Daniel, this is such an important video. You've really managed to put what I've been thinking about for a long time into a really well structured argument. Like even when we do something we love for a living, it can be toxic if we optimise the fun and love out of it in an attempt to be more productive. I'm still struggling with keeping the balance between that, simply paying the bills, and spending time with the people I love and seeing the places I want to see. This was a really good reminder. Thank you!

A really thoughtful and informative video, thank you. I struggle immensely with unrealistic expectations of myself, and the need to control everything around me, as a combined result of Asperger's and Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. The quote that you've used, "when you try to control everything, you enjoy nothing", is incredibly relatable and certainly true - but on the other hand, I know I would also not be able to enjoy things if I felt they were not controlled / ordered. This mindset is unfortunately beyond my conscious ability to change, as they are responses rooted deep in my neurology. I used to consider my neurodiversity 'useful', as the disorders have helped me quickly master skills and help hold me accountable to my own standards; but now, I'm starting to wonder whether it actually means I will never be able to relax or enjoy things. If I feel stressed and overwhelmed when things are out of control, and I feel the same way when I try to control everything, how can I ever expect to find solace and balance? These are rhetorical questions of course, and I'm just thinking out loud - hopefully one day I will have worked it out for myself :) I'll be sure to pick up a copy of 'Time Management for Mortals' - thank you for the recommendation, and thanks again for the video.

Hello, are you me? 😆 In my case it’s ADHD and ASD for the most part - I don’t have a full diagnosis of OCD, but my psychiatrist often sees all three of these things together in the same person, , and it’s an element of the overall picture for me too. And it’s really tough! I had some therapy back in 2016-2017 (Cognitive Analytical Therapy, or CAT), which I found really helpful because it involves essentially drawing out a map of how your thought processes and behaviours interact, and coming up with ways to recognise patterns and break out of loops when they happen - having something tangible and visual to look at made the things we were talking about more concrete and memorable than just talking, and I’d recommend it as a method for anyone with similar preferences for how their brain works! I definitely don’t have all the answers… it’s now 5 years since getting my diagnosis (and I’m about to turn 39 - it would have been really helpful to have some of these answers earlier in life! 😬), and with a combination of therapy and figuring out an effective medication strategy, I feel a bit more able to manage things now (I was in a very dark place in 2016 with anxiety and depression as a result of everything)… but I’m still very much a work in progress. I wish you luck on your journey though Sophie - and don’t let go of the idea that your neurodiversity can be a superpower! 💜

@@EmmaVB82 Hi Emma, I know exactly how you feel! I also have ADHD (the Holy Trilogy, lol) but I am medicated for that and it helps significantly. The only downside with my ADHD being effectively managed, is that it allows the more debilitating sides of ASD and OCPD to take over. My psychiatrist also places these three neurological disorders along the same spectrum - I've read some really interesting material in the past about how ADHD interferes with your compulsive need for perfection / order / routine (either from the ASD or OCPD), and can contribute to a self-fulfilling sense of never being good enough. It's challenging to feel satisfied or content when your own brain likes to sabotage you when it can! I was diagnosed in my early 20s, so I can certainly relate to what you've said about how it would have been helpful to have had the diagnosis and support from an earlier age. I often wonder how different my life would be now if I'd had that help when I was younger, but dwelling on what could have been isn't a healthy mindset and I am trying to stop doing that (you probably know already that it isn't easy to forget the many ways in which we have struggled needlessly!). Whilst I don't personally consider these disorders to be superpowers for me (I do understand the mindset behind that, though), I am proud of who I am and I wouldn't change these things about myself. I do value some of the quirks and characteristics that come with them (my pattern recognition, the ability to learn new skills quickly, a genuine desire to do well etc.), and I try to live my life in a way that accommodates the way I am, which really helps! I'm pleased to have heard your story and experience, thank you for taking the time to reply to my comment. It helps to know there are other people in similar positions, dealing with the same things. Thank you for your kind words - wishing you all the best too, take care :)

Wishing both you ladies (and all others out there with neuro diversity) a very fulfilling, happy and healthy life. Remember Life doesn't place restrictions or demands! You're just perfect the way you are and what really matters is living life on your terms. Not trying to simplify things or make it sound easy, I totally understand the struggle (my children are in similar situation) but simply saying you are important, your life is important and making the most of Life on this planet is important... which I'm sure you know already 💕

This was an eye opener for me. Later 2019, I started side hustles just to fill in the gaps for productivity until Covid-19 strikes forces me to stop. Now I'm trying to remove some side hustles just to focus more on what really is matter. Nice Content BTW!

Awesome video! Really enjoyed watching. You make very good points and observations. It would help us all to remember that we work to live and not live to work! Hussle culture has led to so many people immersing themselves in pursuits of "wants" rather than "needs", so much so that when they retire life losses its meaning & they feel like they have lost their relevance, when in fact getting retirement was what they were slogging all along for... !!! Ironical indeed.

In Buddhism the first guide to your life is understanding you don't have control over anything that matters, for example your health, your loved ones life span , your life span, weather or anything actually because it all can change drastically in a moment. If you live keeping this in mind you won't break down when something unexpected happens. You realise it's the nature of all things in existence, every single thing changes over time. It can be milliseconds or a thousand years. The second thing is keeping in mind that you die and you have no way of knowing when. So any moment can be your last. Which brings us to the third, living in the moment and being mindful about it. It's the basic concept of mindfulness. I think it's the best way to live

Hustle culture about maximising productivity is inane... You cut off people in your immediate surroundings by prioritising 'work' that is for other people to value - if you don't value your people, how and what kind of value do you aim to provide... So these are questions for you, if you chase wealth, are your stakeholders/clients mere means to an end, is there passion or thought put in the work? If your mindset is set for the future, are the people you want to sell to more important to what you seek to achieve - what are the expected results of the outcome?
