1. Feliciano López took a 5-3 lead in the first set 2. A ball boy bought Daniil Medvedev his towel - Medvedev snatches it out of the ball boy’s hands and threw it to the ground 3. Crowd started booing 4. Umpire gave Medvedev a code violation for unsportsmanlike like conduct 5. Medvedev threw his racket in the direction of the umpire’s chair 6. Says to umpire Damien Dumusois “You’re all weirdos, you’re all weirdos. You should not be in this chair. 7. Medvedev holds up a middle finger to the crowd as he walked back to his chair 8. Crowd sees it on the big screen and booed even louder 9. At one point, Feliciano López has a talk with the umpire. Umpire saw Medvedev’s middle finger to the crowd on the big screen but chose not to give a point penalty because he had not seen it live 9. Post match, Medvedev was rained down by jeers 10. He tells the crowd “Well, first of all what I can say is that thank you all guys because your energy tonight give me the win ... So I want all of you to know, when you go to sleep tonight, I won because of you. 11. Medvedev bathes in the jeers 12. Then, “Yeah, but the only thing I can say is that the energy you are giving me right now guys, I think it will be enough for my next five matches. I mean the more you do this, the more I will win for you guys. Thank you.”

I am a fan of Daniil Medvedev.. I watched this match, I want to say that Daniel really did very well and, despite the opposition from the crowd, showed a stable and cool game, he deservedly won. Post-match interviews are a show for the New York public. In the first set, he simply broke and behaved ugly. This is the real character of Medvedev, he had already done such things. He works on his behavior on the court, but this is not always successful. Over the past month, he spent a lot of matches and it is not always possible to control emotions. Off the court, he is a very adequate and reasonable guy. He should be fined, but he's definitely not a bad guy that everyone should hate. He must apologize to the ball boy and the audience. Sorry for the mistakes, this is a google translator, I'm from Russia.

Medveded is a damn hard-worker, with wits and mental toughness. Changed his game completely from 2 years ago, became successful and consistent. The clear no.4 in the world, no doubt about it. I can see a lot of Andy Murray in his game now, but he isn't even close to Andy in hand-skills and overall technique. He may have some other qualities though that Andy doesn't have.
@jay_kulina4 жыл бұрын
@brent smith He may as well win more slams than Murray. That doesn't matter much. What matters most is the opposition, the guys you have to beat. It's far harder winning slams against the 3 best players of all time, don't you think? And Murray won 3. Also had 7 lost finals. In a different era, Andy would easily be a 7+ GS champion. His level was/is just a bit lower than the 3 GOATS. I don't think players like Becker, Nastase or Wilander for example were better than Andy, even though they have more slams than him.

When the crowd goes against Novak...as they did at Wimbledon, as they did at the Australian, as they did at last years USO, and as they’ve been doing for the past decade, Novak shuts them down by humiliating their heroes, ripping his shirt off and eating their grass! 16 Majors proves he’s more than capable of embracing the hate. I see by many of these comments something I have believed for a long time. New York Open crowds are a different beast!. I have noticed that Serena has mostly got edgy in New York. She rarely blew up at any other grand slam. People like Connors and McEnroe loved the almost boxing type of mentality of fans. Borg and Goolagong got to many finals with no titles. I really believe some manage New York crowds better than others.

And he won with humility. Easily one of the most likable guys on tour. Hope he wins the tournament.

Daniel Medvedev is wise: he pretended to scratch his head with his middle finger: The referee says no-one showed him the middle finger. Two in the jeering crowd says they did not see him showing a middle finger. It is next to impossible to catch a white guy directly show the finger, not even at the time of Jimmy Connors and MACiNROE. Only cameras and CCTV shows him, no one else noticed it at the time. Some camera technician manning the CCTV noticed the discreet indirect gesture on replay, and before you know it, it went viral on the Internet. A large number of present set of players in the playing circuit outside of the top ten players, seem to be tall and lanky and thin, including Daniel Medvedev.

What Daniil did to the ball boy definitely wasn't nice (threw the tell away), but the crowd should definitely not have followed with the "boos" the whole way through. Tennis players can have lots of frustrations and emotions that they hold in, booing won't ease it. Good playing from both players.

Zeek you must have not watched the game yourself. He was not only disrespectful to the ball boy also not respectful for himself. If so why he deserves mutual respect from others.

@@gbting1988 No..The way Medvedev went about it definitely wasn't professional. Quite embarrassing in fact.

New York US open crowds are like Aussie tennis crowds have no respect for other countries players. Especially if they are from countries that are politically the US and Allies have threatened like Serbia or Russia. Novak Jokovic also gets the same treatment australia and new york with arrogant aussie tennis crowds and now this New York arrogant crowd is no different. I don't know why just because US and Allied countries politically against them their players like Medvedev and Novak Jokovic has to bear the brunt of this impolite and bad mannered behaviour from the crowd. Thank goodness both are brilliant tennis players. That should shut these arrogant aussie and new yorker tennis sports crowds up.

This shit highlight video doesn't do this match justice, and also kudos to Medvedev for not letting the crowd get to him. He's like Djokovic in that sense.

Lopez made a real fight out of it. Medvedev hits shallow quite a bit and that really gave Lopez a chance to come in to net. Medvedev doesn't get flustered. His cool and calm disposition helped.
