Had a lot of comments on social media about my headlights on my previous e46’s so this time around I decided to make a DIY video.
This method applies to all e46's. M's and non-M's.

Gnik4144 i to had a problem with opening my lights. What i did was i put Them in the oven in my home. About 80° Celsius for 20 minutes. All rubbers and gleu go soft so they open up easy. Clean your lenses OR the dirt will bake in!!

Looks great! but you need to very lightly smoke the corners to match. It's an optical illusion and makes your car look really narrow when you black headlight backing but leave corners clear. It'll look wider and meaner with very light smoked corners. You may have already done this too. My 2 cents.

I like the blackout mod. However, I thought the reason for the reflective silver inside the housing was to direct light output. It may not effect the HID but should effect the highs. May require a retro fit Bi-Xenon setup. Curious to know what your lighting looks like at night.

The Xenons handle both highs n lows. The inner light with reflection are just daytime running halogens. When I do this mod to my M3, I'll remove these bulbs completely.

@@SydeshowMO depens what xenons u have, some xenons have hi and lo beam in them, so u can code away the halogen and just use the halogen as "flash to pass" Also have a pre coupe 03, with xenons, not sure if they are factory though.

You hook up the angel eyes to the interior lights for that pro BMW look and sick dimming feature not the turn signals. I think blinking Angel Eyes with the turn signals make any BMW look cheap (like the $140 eBay headlights). Good job on the blackout. Note: You can remove the high beam bulbs instead of covering them with the tape.

Like you said they look sick, but the downside is that when you cover the bulbs "housings" with paint you lose the directional function of the nickel plating and the light beam pretty much stays right in front of the car and doesn't reach far enough. Not a problem with xenon because they have a dedicated lens for that but in your case the mainbeams probably get impacted (both on mine which doesn't have xenons). I wanted to do it with the mainbeams housings in yellow/gold to get an old school bimmer look but I ended up wiping all of it and loosing some nickel plating in the process

Firstly the chrome bezel around the headlight bulbs are there to make the lights brighter, So blacking them out will reduce the headlight brightness. Secondly you are supposed to wire the halo rings to the DME in the engine bay , so that when the ignition is on the halo rings are on. And then connect the trigger wire to the interior lights , so that when your interior lights fade out , the halo rings fade out as well.

Whether you own a BMW or not, the fact is if you paint your reflectors it will negatively effect the display of light. The lights that down have lenses and just a bulb and reflectors if you paint the reflectors that light will be very very dim. The lights with lenses will still work just won't have near reflection, only far projection. So in other teams looms great but is it worth the downgrade in visibility.

@@kadenbourgeois1 Hell Yes, the high beam and low beam is both in the Bixenon lights, the painted reflector is just for "flash to pass" as the xenons are not made to be turned off and on fast.

A very clean and nice BMW E46 M3. Seeing more and more E46 M3s nice like this makes me want to save up for one. About to save all money in 2018 from working my jobs and income taxes in 2019. And see where that gets me. Hoping to find a Laguna Secca Blue M3 or any other nice colorway. Good condition lower miles with maintenance done accordingly. Might have to travel to go get it across the country or to another state nearby because here in Texas BMW M3 e46 coupes are getting harder and harder to find. But anyways keep it up with the videos mane and keep the E46 running good please.

Amir Ibrahim Hi there! 1: I used nothing to cover the projectors, just spray a couple of thick coats, then when peeling it will come off easily. 2: It’s as simple as peeling back the plastidip off. You can see videos of plastidip removal on KZbin 😁 Thanks for watching!

However your car has the protectors and they seemed to fit no problem. After this you can't see anything, literally there is no reflection, I've done one without the projector. I did it with liquid vinyl so is not a problem removing it.

Thanks! And on the e46’s the cover is held in by clips, never had any issues with water or inside fogging up. And my bi-xenon projector brightness output hasn’t been affected by this. Check out my headlight update video on my channel for it

Magnus Frederiksen on e46’s there’s 2 ways to activate high beams, one used to flash(which uses the bulb and the chrome area that I painted) and another high beam option that uses the xenon projector and makes them a lot brighter. Do you own an e46?

No, but 3 of my friends own e46's and several other own other bmw's, and the reflector does affect the light output, if the inner most bulb is used, as it is. I don't understand, does your e46 only use the outer bulb, both for high and low beam? I've never heard of any bmw doing that

It is illegal to reduce the brightness below the law's threshold. With this mod, the light output is the same and the car has both normal and highbeams working. Why should it be illegal?
