The man who started one of the most inspirational bands in the world! Yoshiki! Even though he came from pretty much nothing, he still managed to establish himself in the rock and roll world. X Japan is a band that many people feel close to, and the main composer/leader/producer is none other than Yoshiki. People call him the "Bono" of Japan, but he's more like the Freddy Mercury...and people...hate him? Why? And hat do Hide fans have to do with it? Find out on Game Analyzer!

I don't even understand how we could hate Yoshiki, I'm not a X Japan fan but more a hide fan only but still I respect and admire Yoshiki so much and hide is my idol, I always loved X Japan music as well and Yoshiki always puts hide in concerts on screens, talks about him on social medias and interviews while crying, he suffered so much from his death and people hate him? you weren't even a friend of hide or Yoshiki who are you to judge and those who think he made X Japan disband is pretty funny, he was even a pacifist when we read Toshi book, he didn't even go against his position, but hide though was sad and mad...

You pretty much hit all the points. I always see fans complaining about all the things you've mentioned in the video. In my opinion, there would be no X Japan without him. He and ToshI created the whole band to begin with, it was their vision. The majority of the music was created by Yoshiki - it's his pain, his memories, his words, his heart that goes into these songs. A lot of those classics were created by him as a way to cope with his loss. It's kind of weird that some fans love those songs but dismiss him as an artist even though all that work was created by him. I also see fans complaining about the direction of the new music of X Japan. We haven't really been able to get much new material since X reformed, so I think it's premature of people to criticize the new sound. Every single artist or band out there has changed over the years though. No one person stays the same over decades, so it's kind of unfair for fans to expect the band to be stuck in the eighties when they've all gone through so much change and loss in the last two decades. As for his "ego", I think that's just part of who Yoshiki is, and a lot of it is just his stage persona. He pretty much is driven for perfection and that might turn some people off but it's part of who he is. He's had a camera crew follow him around for more than half his life so he's probably used to being the one at the center of attention. The others seem more quiet (shy if you will) and keen on keeping their privacy. With Yoshiki being the most fluent in English and being the leader of the band, they most likely rely on him to do international promo and being the one in the spotlight. The whole thing with Taiji - I don't think we'll ever know the whole story. Yoshiki himself said that it's something he'll take to his grave and not divulge. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Who knows. It's obviously a private matter and water under the bridge at this point. I respect all the band members, new and old, and what they've contributed to the band and its history. They're all equally important in my opinion, whether they shine brightly in the spotlight or quietly in the background. All 7 members are X Japan.

Very well said. Thanks for that well written and thought out comment. :) There was a site that had a English translated version of Taiji's autobiography. It's a really interesting read, but even he doesn't give too many details on it. It didn't seem like him and Yoshiki had any heat between them though.

Yup, Taiji also says that his relationship with Yoshiki is not something he can talk about, but gives a very apt description of Yoshiki's personalty (beautiful faced angel with one half being an agonizing devil -- I think the Art of Life cover pretty much resembles this description). Yoshiki is a screwed up guy, let's face it. What he experienced as a child, pretty much affected his mental stability, I would say. I would dare to say he is bipolar (interestingly, in the Grammy Museum interview he himself says, "maybe I'm polar?" but then laughs it off as a joke). But this is what makes him who he is. This is what made X Japan, this is what made all those compositions that fans love. How can people hate him for something that was essential for the creation of the music itself? Isn't this contradictory? None of those songs would have happened, had Yoshiki had a beautiful childhood. His pain created X. Ego? Seriously, which artist doesn't have an ego? You can't even be a rockstar without an ego. Normal people don't crave the spotlight. Because you don't need the extra attention to be happy. Any musician out there performing on a stage is in a way there because they are missing something in their own lives, something that only music can substitute. Yoshiki's ego is pretty high. So is his music talent. Deal with it, folks.

Yoshiki is actually pretty interesting in person. He's awkward, clumsy, shy, and quite introverted. It's not something you would expect from a rock star. That gap is quite adorable.

When people whine about the change in style of the music; These guys are in their 50s, I'm sorry, but you can't head bang like they did originally. Obviously, Yoshiki has health problems. X Japan is basically, at the heart, Yoshiki's band. *shrug^. I love X Japan, period. I LOVE Heath! Pata is amazing, Sugizo is as well. Nobody can sing their music like Toshi! Hide and Taiji will always be members of X. The commentary on this video is dead on. Good Job.

i've seen several people complaining about everything yoshiki does, but never noticed they were hide fans. as a hide fan, i'm thankful for the fact that yoshiki talked hide into joining x japan. as you said, if yoshiki didn't do it, hide wouldn't be in the band. what i've noticed with these yoshiki antis is that they're just ignorant and don't seem to wanna get educated about him. it's really sad. yoshiki been through a lot, he's doing his best all the time, yet receives shit on a daily basis, even sometimes from his own "fans" that keeps nagging about the album. i wish people could give him a break.

I never understood how people could dislike Yoshiki, or say they should have a "better drummer" Yoshiki is the composer - an absolutely godlike one at that, he played piano on stage for the band only to sprint to the drumkit and play the leading beat. Not to mention, he's a really good metal drummer. And has composed/played classical piano for the Emperor of Japan. Yoshiki was paid more - well he did more work.

Wow, finally! Your intelligent delivery of the facts is much appreciated, not to mention your reminder that hating one person is not a prerequisite for loving another. Thank you for standing up to internet trashing with no basis in truth.

I've been a fan of VK and J-rock for 17 years. But I've never understood the "fandom" side of it. Sure. I go to see gigs when something interesting comes up and have quite good understanding of the bands I listen to. But people seem to have HUGE misconceptions on how music is made. I'd go even further - and say: Yoshiki _is_ X-Japan. He notates and at the same time dictates everything that happens. When on top of that he's producing as well... He could form a group just from seasoned session players and call it a day. But he - and the fans have made X-Japan greater than just the music. It's X-Japan with all the members or not at all.

Yoshiki and hide are great. They both were a big inspiration for me. When I was a teenager I had a poster of Yoshiki hanging over my piano and a poster of hide hanging on the wall over the place where I practiced guitar. I don´t get how one can be a fan of X Japan and hate Yoshiki since he is the heart and soul of X. Most of their songs are Yoshiki turning his feelings and experiences into art. These songs contain a big part of him. How can one hate him but love his songs and even think these songs would be better if some other dude performed them? If there is no Yoshiki you would not even be able to listen to these songs at all.

I saw his classical concerts in new york last month, he was amazing, the way he approached the crowd was so gente and nice, very likable guy. Plus, I got to meet him a couple of times and he truly is the nicest guy. I have nothing bad to say about the guy, if anything, it's a little annoying how he has said the last 10 years that the album is "95% done". I don't know how people can like X Japan and hate Yoshiki, I mean, he is X. The most laughable comment is when they say X Japan would be better with another drummer, that makes no sense, he wrote most of the songs I know for a fact that for Art of Life he wrote ALL the parts, he wrote all the bass and guitar lines (even the solos) in music sheet and gave it out to the members to play, there is a 1990 demo Yoshiki recorded all by himself and all the parts are the same as the album. It rather weird when they just playbacked hide's solo instead of letting Sugizo play them but since 2011 Sugizo plays ALL of hide's parts, except the last solo in Art of Life. I don't think he is trying to make money off the death, it's just his way to pay respect and acknowledge how important hide and Taiji were to X, the deal with the legal image of hide was because hide's brother wanted Yoshiki to pay him to use the footage of hide. In reality, his brother has been the one cashing out this whole time, he keeps releasing tons of hide merchandise and 1000 special edition of music, opening hide stores, etc. I always thought the Taiji thing had something to do with drugs, in Japan they take that VERY seriously and if a band is involved with drugs it could ruin their career. Taiji had a history of drug abuse after he left X, in his book he mentioned how grateful he was to Yoshiki because after hide's funeral he gave him money to pay for his dental work (he had 5 broken teeth) and basically sent him to rehab. after Sakura's drug related arrest he was fired from L'arc En Ciel, for example, and Taiji did say himself he broke an unforgivable rule.

such a late comment, but about the whole cashing out on Hide thing makes me so angry. Like I can't determine whether Hiroshi is doing it for cash or he just wants to keep people happy but after he tried to make Yoshiki pay him for using his image.... I can't comment on Hiroshi's feelings about hide and I don't have a right too... but I don't feel like hide would appreciate being someones cash cow. I refuse to buy any hide merchandise, maybe I would if it was fan made, but after the whole turning hide's image into money things, I don't feel comfortable buying hide anything and haven't.

Who are these ''hide fans/Yoshiki haters'' that you're talking about? I'm a huge X fan but I've never seen anyone hate Yoshiki for the reasons you mentioned, except for Taiji's departure. I rarely notice anyone hating on Yoshiki to be honest. Most X fans seem to be HUGE Yoshiki fangirls/fanboys. They worship him like a God. He can't do anything wrong in their eyes. Last week I saw the ''We Are X'' documentary in Amsterdam :D In the documentary Yoshiki said that he fired Taiji because he said something unacceptable to him. He didn't want to say what exactly Taiji had said to him. He kept it pretty vague. We'll probably never know what really happened between them. I didn't read Taiji's book but I don't believe Taiji wanted to change X's music at all. If anything, he seems to wanted X to continue making rock/metal music, whereas Yoshiki wanted to make more ballads and go into a different direction music-wise. You can tell that X's music changed a lot after Taiji's departure in 1992. Personally, I LOVE X, but only LIKE X Japan. I'll chose X over X Japan any day! :D How long have you've been a X/X Japan fan?
@PhoenixSplash
@PhoenixSplash 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, in Taiji's book, he didn't like the ballads coming into play. As far as where the yoshiki haters are, I see them in comment sections on KZbin, the Yoshiki facebook, and various facebook groups that I'm in. The ballads were already there even while Taiji was in X Japan. The ballads were a big hit for X Japan much like Beth was for Kiss.In Taiji's book he says he wanted to make X's songs more heavier. I'm guessing more like the stuff he wrote which was less technical and deeper chords. I honestly don't really see people treating Yoshiki like a God other than probably rabid X Japan fans that you see on his videos. Most people I see are either really critical of Yoshiki or just flat out hate him. I myself am sometimes critical on Yoshiki. Now of course not every Hide fan is a Yoshiki hater, but usually after I see a sour comment about Yoshiki, it's followed up with how great Hide was and sometimes how Taiji was. The biggest changes I noticed after Taiji's departure were medium tempo songs like Rusty Nail and Scars and the use of synthesizers. I've personally been a X Japan fan since I was in middle school. lol

xsadisticxdesirex Same here o/ besides Yoshiki knows why he asked hide to be part of X Japan, so yes there wouldn't be X without Yoshiki and Toshi but X Japan couldn't be X Japan without hide also, that's why they wanted to reborn X with a knew singer. hide fans hating Yoshiki? Never heard of it 🤔 Speaking of Taiji, he's been kicked out because of his attitude mainly, being never satisfied and all. (but Yoshiki his not a saint either ... please 🙈) When you see the title you think you'll learn a lot about all the members. Just like you said he's making himself the center of the band, so this time I think people were hoping to see more than just Yoshiki or more than members speaking about Yoshiki mainly. hide was the last coming but the lead guitarist, the crazy one, yoshiki the brutal/fragile one and Toshi the savage (in the beginning). I saw the film in London and in Amsterdam, when Yoshiki came and I think it's a masterpiece but maybe the title is not the best choice? 🤔 To conclude, haters gonna hate so let them be , no need to make a video (my opinion). Lol
@PhoenixSplash
@PhoenixSplash 7 жыл бұрын
Kuro' Yukii well enough people were interested in the topic. This video seemed to do pretty well so I think it was worth the effort lol As far as saying X Japan couldn't be X without Hide...as much as I love Hide, I have to disagree. The one thing X loses is Hide's creative side, but his parts can still be covered by a good enough guitar player. Hide's creative side really sprouted during his solo career and not too much in X. The only person that keeps X standing is Yoshiki. Finding someone to compose, play the piano and drums all at once would be a difficult task...and in the end it wouldn't sound even close to X Japan. I think it's safe to say that many X Japan fans put Hide on a pedestal when compared to Yoshiki. Sure he was the lead guitar player, but Yoshiki wrote many of the parts that he played...and if he didn't, then the parts are still written out by someone and can be learned by someone else.

Phoenix Splash TV Well, you have your opinion. To me X Japan is a band not a matter of a member doing this or that. That's why I don't understand haters and people defending one member or another. I'm terribly late to the whole party but I thought this video was very interesting, from my viewpoint over here as a newcomer. My best friend introduced me to X Japan's music like three weeks ago. They were a big fan in their teenage days during the 90s and basically never knew they got back together after splitting up. When KZbin recommended me a video about them, Khoi was completely over the moon and provided me with all the music I could ask for. X Japan is a really cool band, from a musical standpoint as well as concerning their cultural impact. Having that out of the way, I think I was first shown a video from the last live concert in '97 (Kurenai if my memory serves correctly) and being the old punk that I am, I totally fell in love on the spot with this weird pink-haired dude. Loved his energy, his style and of course his guitar playing. (My friend then sadly informed me that this exact guy died 23 years ago which was a real bummer but still...what a guy). Having started to fall in love, I quickly searched up more songs, live shows and interviews even though I can't speak Japanese at all. And I noticed that I loved everyone in their own way. Not only was everyone a completely unique character and brought their own style into the mix, they also seemed to held some honest affection for each other. They had such wonderful engagement with each other and their audience it's not hard to see why they had the effect on people that they had. Not being able to understand a lot I am forced to pay much more attention to body language and facial expressions or gestures. I'm so surprised on the apparent takes on Yoshiki, who seems like a troubled man for sure but...not...mean or evil. He looks like an introverted and very shy guy in interviews who has to talk as a band leader but not enjoying it very much and relying on searching eye contact to his friends here and there for safety. During gigs he seems more at ease, letting loose (sometimes a bit too much and getting overwhelmed by emotions doing stupid shit) and laughing a lot with everyone else. He might have his theatrics and antics but everyone in the band seemed to like him, as well as the other way around. He seemed to have a special connection to both Toshi (the person he knew the longest) and hide (they just seemed to click so much but that might also be because hide seemed like a caretaker type - when sober - who managed to lighten up the mood if it got tense). I was a bit sceptic at first on including the footage or sound lines of hide into current concerts (I have never seen such a thing on that scale) but after seeing the past stuff, hearing interviews and especially that very sad eulogy Yoshiki held I have no questions that he loved this guy deeply and this is his way of grieving as well as paying respect and keeping someone important to him in his memory. And that's okay. That's important for someone battling depression and it might look weird to some but it definitely doesn't look weird to me or like "making money off a dead man". I have to admit, I've not seen the documentation that was made about the band and Yoshiki especially so of course I might be off in some parts but overall...I just can't see how you can hate the guy. One might dislike his character or his shy mumbling and playing nervously with his hair while talking or whatever. But hate? On the basis of being a fan of a man who clearly liked him and enjoyed his company? That just seems so completely foreign to me, I really don't understand it at all. I haven't touched on my thoughts on the relationship between the others and Yoshiki because you made this video as a message to hide's fans in particular and this comment is long enough as it is *lol* but they are there and also don't support hate towards his person. I guess there was no point to this, I just wanted to get the thoughts out of my head. Thank you very much for making this video, it shed some light of fandom affairs I wasn't even aware about! I guess I will continue avoiding these parts of the fan base and just enjoy this delightful band and it's delightful people who suffered so much and deserve lots of happiness, each and every one of them, no matter if still down here or somewhere up above. All the best wishes from Germany!

I met the band in April of 1990 thanks to a 3 week TDY in the Army and that my Jump school roommate was also half of the IWGP Tag Team title holders at the time...as Yoshiki put it in this year's birthday email "To our oldest gaijin fan congratulations on turning 51" with a picture of the band from 1990 and recently telling me that I'm #1 in their hearts😉 (he was getting me back for the picture I sent him last year of me standing next to a 55mph Speed Limit sign with the circle and line over the 55😁)...I never saw any animosity between the members of the band...and after watching "We are X" the grief in Yoshiki's eyes when he talked about hide's death told the entire story...he considered hide, Pata, Toshi and Taiji as brothers...and I'm sure that he now also considers Sugizo and Heath as younger brothers...

When it comes to haters, they involve several reasons which I personally consider irrelevant. They don't get his depression, because of course after 40 years your father died you have to cure your sadness - those guys must be heartless. They assume he is fake and that he fakes his feelings about hide's death - he only was one of the people Yoshiki respected most , what's the big deal ? Moreover they accuse Yoshiki of using his trauma for becoming more popular - I bet he don't need anybody to cry on his grave you know . And of course in their opinion Yoshiki is not a musical genius , he isn't that talented he just know marketing and he become so rich because he sold X as a product - his own fucking product . He victimizes himself to much , he is a spoiled, childish brat , he has mental problems ,he got drunk and set fire and got arrested and he acts like a chick - guys , you 'd better say he 's insane , isn't he? And last but not least he isn' t ill, he is suffering from Munchausen syndrome and he works that much because he is crazy - is not like he can die of asthma. I refuse to count the "Taiji reason " because it's a madness at any point. These guys call themselves X fans but they talk shit about X 's leader on forums. If you hate Yoshiki but love hide or X you ' re fake . You can't hate someone and love his friends or his work in the same time. Just think, if you love hide , hide loved Yoshiki and you have no reason to hate him. I don't mean he don't have his issues but none of them give you the reason to hate him. Don't get me wrong ,I don't disagree with haters , they' re free to do whatever they want and they 're right about some of these facts but it won't hurt them to be more understanding - Yoshiki is a human after all , he don't have to be perfect . Reading those forums made me cry , I was a Yoshiki workshiper since I know myself, I heard about his issues but I love him more and more no matter what. And if Yoshiki is such a weak and dramatic 53 years old child as haters say that means he needs his fans to support him. So I 'll support him till death. ( Sorry for this long comment but I had to clear his name for my own peace. Hope my english isn't very messed up ).

It is a shame that Hide lost his life in the prime of his career and I absolutely loved how he was evolving in so many genres of music. He was Amazing. On the other hand, Yoshiki is a Genius and he is still here with us creating and dealing with living and health issues that are painful. I still watch all the videos from Hide, Spread Beaver etc... I still watch all the XJapan videos, as well. I do know the history even before the docu. I am still to see the documentary. I will always love Both, Hide & Yoshiki !!!

I know this has been released some years back but yet: I only heard of XJapan recently, but of course do know Yoshiki as the great artist he is. --I dare to agree with you 100%, since my channel is dedicated to Queen. I love Freddie with all my heart, put lots of his content out. But if I post the most beautiful videos of Roger and Brian that take me forever to put together, they flop big time just because the old geezers still play concerts as Queen with Adam Lambert. --So in retrospect: No Freddie- no Queen, no hide -no XJapan! I agree with almost everything you said but why did you leave the biggest reason people dislike Yoshiki out, his endless milking of Hide's death? Oh right, can't forget about the "new album" shenanigans either. In fact I've never seen anyone hate on Yoshiki because of the reasons you said, other than the bit about Taiji leaving.

I don't like Yoshiki because of the fact that he milks Hide's death, he cries on cue, and it seems so phony. I have heard rumors that he sacrificed Hide in order to be a worldwide superstar, as he had always wanted, and felt that slip away, when Toshi dropped the bomb that he was quitting. It's pretty strange how Yoshiki became just as big in America, as he was in Japan, after Hide's death. Hide's brother has said that Hide wasn't suicidal or depressed and Yoshiki claims that Hide was drunk and doing "neck exercises on a doorknob" and died as a result. It's as fake as the alleged suicides on doorknobs of Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington, as well as so many others. Many famous people sacrifice best friends, relatives, children, anyone who they love the most and are extremely close to, in order to achieve super stardom. Yoshiki has done photo shoots with the "hand over one eye" pose and the "finger in front of the lips" pose, that alleged members of secret societies do, including very rich and very famous celebrities. Yoshiki has claimed that he promised his father's spirit that he would "do anything he had to", in order to achieve the fame that his father apparently craved. As intense as Yoshiki is, I would not be surprised to find out that "anything" would include, sacrificing his best friend and most beloved member of his band. All of the members were loved, but not like Hideo. People were and are obsessed with him. None of the other members had the following or the people's obsession for them, like Hideo.

I don't really get what you mean when you say "Yoshiki's ego". You really have to understand that this is a tough world and without a good leader most people cannot do much. That is also true for talented people. There is a huge amount of talented people on this Earth. But only very few of them make it. Because a good leadership is requered for them to move forward in the right direction.

Hey! thank you for your video. :) I'm a big fan of X Japan and Yoshiki is one of my favourite persons on the whole world. I attended his classical concert a week ago and all I could think about during the whole concert that how could somebody hate this amazing man. I just can't get it. BUT. There is one thing you didn't mentioned in your video. I know about some fans (by the way how could I name myself a FAN if I hate one of the band members, really???), who hate Yoshiki because since the reunion he is "trying to make money from a dead man". Which is kinda true, I mean, there is a bit too much drama and Hide-mourning in the concerts, meanwhile I'm kinda pissed that they just don't perform Art of Life anymore because of the guitar solo parts. C'mon, Sugizo could play them just as good as Hide did. That whole "Sugizo-is-the-sixth-member-of-X-Japan" thing is nice, but now that Taiji died what happened, Sugi slid down to the 7th place? What is it good for, to have him in the band if they don't really let him play Hide's parts? I'm not worrying about his selfconfidence btw, but it bothers me that he is still kinda support member or design component in X Japan. And if you know Sugi's work than you know that he is just as amazing music genius as Yoshiki. His only fault is that he is still alive. So again, I love Yoshiki for many reasons, but I respectfully disagree with many of his decisions. What do you think about this? :)
@PhoenixSplash
@PhoenixSplash 7 жыл бұрын
I think Yoshiki mourns in a sometimes strange way. I don't think Yoshiki is intentionally trying to profit off of Hide and Taiji, but I can see how it might come off that way. He's even had some legal issues using Hide's images...Hide had a huge fan base and I think some fans might even be insulted if Hide wasn't mentioned. I know Yoshiki lost his father to Suicide and I think that may have something to do with how he deals with death. I don't think it's a political move. As far as Art of Life goes, I think that's a Yoshiki problem. In one of the more recent performances of the song, Yoshiki tensed up during the song and had to be carried out. The same thing happened to the drummer of Rush because of aging. Sugizo is more than qualified to play the parts. The dude is amazing.

I didn't knew some fans hated Yoshiki. The wage gap exists in every band. In X Japan everyone was paid equally for album sales, concert ticket sales and merchandising sales. However, Yoshi also was paid more for writing songs, being the manager, being the record label owner and being the promoter.

He did most of the work and got paid more. Rightfully so too. Some fans are naive and think that it should always be equal...but certain band mates take on more responsibility, take most of the risk, and put more of the time.

the fact that hide was going to become a hairdresser before Yoshiki asked him to join X was actually confirmed by hide himself in an interview back in the day ~ so yeah, haters - that's confirmed. hide also added that he joined X not because he was interested in X's music back then but because he thought Yoshiki was an interesting guy, and the idea of messing around with mainstream at the time was pretty cool :3 watch We Are X for more info, guys =))))))))))))))))))) as for myself, I am a hardcore fan of hide because I knew of him through his solo work and as a solo artist before I even knew about X Japan. But ever since getting on X Japan, I never once hated Yoshiki. Yes his ego's huge, and yes he's a control freak. But guess what? Without his annoying attitude X Japan would probably not get into the mainstream. Get some history lesson of how the J-biz was like back then, you'll get the picture.

Yoshiki is a very talented musician no doubt. He can play anything and very good at doing it. I think what troubles me as a huge Hide fan is that Hide once said "he is a hired gun for X Japan" and when Hide went on to produce his own music he felt more empowered because he was doing it all the way he wanted. I believe Hide made X Japan and granted Sugizo covers for Hide very well Hide had a following that will never be compared. No other X Japan musician will get the following still to this day than Hide. I am glad they got back together but in watching X Japan now it just seems something BIG is missing...Hide. Just found that old video and wanted to add my two cents. I love X and I love Yoshiki but my favourite is Toshi. About Yo, well, he's ridiculously talented and sexy (if you're into androgenous style and I am). He has an epic ego but is super shy at the same time. He can be creepy and cute the same minute. And he's really devoted to his fans. All that makes it hard not to love him. But I kind of hate him at the same time. Why ? Because I've read Toshi's book about being manipulated by his ex wife, emprisonned, beaten and brainwashed by a cult during twelve freaking years. It is the saddest book I've ever read. I cried my eyes out the whole book. Poor darling went through hell. Where was Yoshiki, his so called best friend, during all this time ? Toshi went into that cult because he was depressed and felt lonely. Where was Yoshiki ? He was treated like a slave many years, tortured. Where the hell was Yoshiki ? So my love for Yoshiki is tainted.

not just toshi but hide as well. I blame absolutely everyone on what happened to these guys.. it was just a matter of time to come to a tragedy behind another tragedy. but still we have to think that Japanese culture is that, they only mind their own business and never interfere in other ppls lives simply bc they were raised like that. They observe, see all wrong things going on but stay in silence and let things just happening. When hide was doing his solo he said himself that he and the other members never talk to each other if they’re away or doing their own thing. Not even a single call to know if they’re fine, etc that made me realize that they were just bandmates not “brothers” as we thought, not even that close. Not every Japanese of course but almost all of them. I want to believe that the new generations are different now and more open minded to help each other but at their time these guys were all alone, even hide w his brother by his side he was so lonely as well and dealing alone w whatever he was going through without help or open up w somebody abt it. This make me so sad and angry at same time. Now many of his friends say “oh I knew this was gonna happen soon or late bc he was this and that” “something went off after the disbandment” “he started to drink more often” “he didn’t wanted to be alone” “he became paranoid” “he was crying alone in a corner often” “he drank himself to sleep” etc etc yeah, they all knew or felt something wasn’t right w the guy but stayed in silence. maybe they didn’t care that much bc it was “cool” and that was what rockstars did which is so wrong.

Both love and hate him. Love the guy he used to be, hate the guy he is now. First of all, the infamous X Japan new album. He constantly lies about it being 99% done since I remember, but where the hell it is then? How can you work on the last 1% for all those fuckin years? Every year he's like "yeah, we're releasing the album this year, maybe autumn?". Then it comes autumn, winter, another year and here we go all over again. His empty promisses are just pathetic and show complete lack of respect for his fans. He released a "We are X" soundtrack on a day of planned album release just to release something, for fucks sake! You're saying, that X Japan = Yoshiki + Toshi. Wrong! X was less successful than Hide's Saver Tiger, I guess that's why Yoshiki wanted him in the band in the first place. X Japan wouldn't be here without Yoshiki composing, true, but without Hide's charisma they wouldn't have ever gone to mainstream. Their new style - it's not a problem, that they play different stuff. The thing is, they haven't released a good song since "Jade". "Born to be free" is pretty cool I have to say, but only cool. "Hero" is just 4 boring chords all over and over again and "Beneath the skin" is great and interesting track, but, let's face it - it's a cover. We also have "La Venus" . Beautiful melody, but who cares? The song itself it's like verse and chorus put in loop. If this is "the signature song for X Japan's new era", then I'm done. We still have no recordings of actual version of "Angel" and "Kiss the sky", but after "La Venus" I'm a bit worried. I could also complain about SKIN and Violet UK, but both have nothing to do with X Japan. I don't get it, Yoshiki used to be the greatest composer and drummer of his generation, what happened? I personally see Yoshiki being burned out as a musician and living on the legend he created long ago. Kinda sad, if you think about it.
@PhoenixSplash
@PhoenixSplash 7 жыл бұрын
I disagree that the band would have failed without Hide. Even though Saver Tiger was more successful at the time, neither were really all that successful at that time...and yes...X does equal Toshi plus Yoshiki...without one of them there can be no X. Hide's parts can be played by another guitar player and they have been(as harsh as it is to say). Without Yoshiki, there's no composition and without Toshi's signature voice, fans wouldn't accept it at all. Without Hide's Charisma...X Japan still exists. Also, I'm aware that Saver Tiger was "bigger" than X in the very early stages of X...but no one talks about Saver Tiger unless they're talking about Hide. It's not like Saver Tiger is remembered as much as other bands like ZI Kill and Luna Sea. X Japan with or without Hide would have eventually surpassed Saver Tiger. Truth is Saver Tiger...is not all that big...and Hide would've dropped out of it eventually to become a hair dresser. You can argue that without Hide X wouldn't have gone mainstream...but you can't argue that without Yoshiki, X wouldn't even exist. If something were to happen to Pata or Heath, X would still be X. When Toshi quit, was there still X? No. When Taiji left was there still X? Yes. Is there an X without Hide? Yes. There is. I love Hide, but facts are facts. I agree about the release dates. He should be more clear and honest on what stage that the album is on. It's pretty tough to predict setback after setback which sometimes just happens. If you take out Yoshiki or Toshi and just have Hide, then you get an entirely different sound. As for the music....either you like it or you don't. I'm not going to defend the simple composition when compared to their others. I just hope they have something compositionally impressive that they're holding back on.

With all of Yoshiki's injuries there's a reason the music has changed.

I'm hide-yoshiki fanboy, but you're right. Back in the days, hide were about to quit play music, then everything change when he start hangin with Yo-chan and decided to join X. Why Xjapan change their style? Actually they're not changed. But only missing one of their main "fragment of creation", which is hide the guitarist. Ofcourse other than Yoshiki's health problem. I mean, If we lucky enough to be able to hear raw sample prototype of "Silent Jelousy" Song for example (which is Yoshiki alone created it and let the other member had to learn) , and compare to final release. I'm sure we'll be notice huge differences in emotion, shape, dynamic of that song. Because other member gives their soul to the song. And you're right, every member shine. But can't be denied, other rhan yoshiki, hide had 'large sum of shine-bar" just look at his solo project. How hide be able to play the leader role of the band. So yeah, I'm guitarist myself, I know the feel when your band mate especially one that had biggest chemistry to you, left the band. It'll be pain in every veins to move on creating new music.

You never really addressed the real reason for the backlash on Yoshiki though, the endless delays of the new album. Luna Sea, D'erlanger, Dead End etc. all reunited at about the same time and all released multiple albums but X Japan can't even crank out one album? So much for a composing genius. The We Are X documentary was also completely unnecessary, it spent more time on Yoshiki's personal life than the actual band. Heath and Pata barely appeared in it.

I disagree on the We are X documentary. It exposed many new people to X Japan in the U.S.The X Japan story is pretty much the Yoshiki/Hide story, since it was his vision and his monetary risk. I thought it was told pretty well and touched on all the important moments of the band. Of course it's going to center around Yoshiki. He pretty much is X Japan since he directs the live performances, mixes, produces, and composes for the band. I like Heath and Pata, but they weren't really apart of pivotal moments of the band. That's why Toshi, Taiji, Hide, and Yoshiki were more focused on. Much of the songs center around Yoshiki's life experiences. There are many factors that contribute into releasing an album some outside of Yoshiki's control. I agree that it's "taking too long" and I think it may not even ever come out. But to say "I hate Yoshiki because the album is taking too long" is a little bit misguided. They're older and performing still. They can take as long as they want. Took my band three years to release our album. Our songs were written way before the album was released. Most of it was because of producing, funding, promoting, and licensing. If you've kept up with Toshi's "brainwashing" problem, then you can only imagine the hell it must be to even include Toshi on the album due to the licensing and copyright stuff that Masaya did. To have Hide's name on the album (even in spirit) is probably another brickwall. I believe even Taiji has his named owned by someone else.

Just wanted to ask , why did Yoshiki never marry , I know he has a lot of pain and sadness in his life , but maybe a family might have helped , to be loved and have his own family . Just a happy housewife , tgat tries her best to play piano and take care of her family . And I’m not well I’m on oxygen after beating stage 3 cancer . I know I’ll never meet or get to see him but I’d love to write him a hand written letter one day . God bless you all ❤️ I was just wondering I hope I hear back

I ship Hide & Yoshiki xD they were the biggest dorks when working together and just hanging out. It's easy to find videos of them hanging out etc. Also I will point out that IV actually had HIDE's hand in it even with his passing. I believe that Yoshiki might've had a guitar part of hide's and wrote a song around it. Another thing to think about is that during their biggest years in the 80s they were /constantly/ around eachother! They might be good friends and bandmates but being in close quarters with anyone will form a bit of animosity between the people, especially if they are around eachother 24/7. Many bands face this when doing long tours. There were also rumours that during one of many break-ups Toshi was on drugs. They paused activities to let him heal. There's so many things to look at here.

I adore yoshiki, he's not without criticism, but he an immensely talented, phenomenal musician. Without him, yes there would be no X one of the criticisms I have heard, which you didnt list, was that people claimed he used hide's memory and popularity as a cash cow, with all the memorial concerts etc. I do not agree, but that is something I heard
