The most underrated band in metal in my opinion (at least outisde of asia) they have such killer songs and album and the best prog metal song ever (Art of life) Seriously I really recommend to listen to it with good quality headphone, the song has so many depth to it it's incredible. Yoshiki is a musical genius. It's sad to say that I truly believe if they weren't japanese they would be one of the biggest metal band ever

Seeing them play at Roseland Ballroom in NYC on October 10th 2010 was one of the highlights of my 35 years of life. I got into them in 1998 right before Hide passed away. When that happened I abandoned hope of ever seeing them live (along with them not ever touring the US, Toshi leaving the band and two other members passing). If my 14 year old self knew that my 25 year old self would get to see them live I would have never believed it. It was Toshi’s birthday. The band bought 200 pizzas for everyone on line before the show then Yoshiki surprised him with a cake and we all sang happy birthday. It was amazing. It was emotional. It was one of the highlights of my life.

I was going through all the fact or fiction videos just now and I had a mild heart attack when I saw this. I actually screamed a little, I know that this is an old video, but X Japan mean so much to me and I never expected them to pop up on a western rock channel, it made me so extremely happy (I'm usually not mixing J-Rock/Visual Kei and western rock bc of how "different" they are and seeing the western side appreciate the side that's a little "strange" at first sight is-- I grew up with both sides present in my life eversince I can think, basically, I can't even begin to explain how much it means to me-- ("you're a weeaboo" nah man, I speak Japanese and I'm moving to Japan soon))

I enjoyed this interview. That was a fun fact to learn about Michael Jackson and Yoshiki’s black hand/arm brace. Also about Yoshiki’s niece having heart surgery (I also went through open heart and it’s a tough recovery) and talking about the MRI with the therapy music. That really touched me. I am possibly facing another surgery and for my next MRI, I will ask if they have Yoshiki’s music. I know it was more in depth than that but I sure will ask. Thanks Yoshiki. I hope your niece is doing well. ❤️

Music therapy does work. It worked for me twice. I was suffering from depression which was instantly cured by listening to a song from one of my favourite bands. It was a single note played at a certain key. That's the best way I can describe it. The first time my depression was cured I was listening to a song by Echo and the Bunnymen. Second time I was listening to Bauhaus. I can't remember the songs.

Interesting interview.Been a fan of the band starting about 3 days after hide's death when I was in Little Tokyo and saw hide's pictures all over the place in Japanese newspapers and asked the guy who worked there what it was about. He had to call his nephew from the back to explain it to me. So I got one of his CD's and was hooked and ended up spending WAAAY too much money for X Japan videos and DVD's of The Last Live and DVD of hide's concerts. Imports were waaaaay too much money but no youtube back then and grunge was ruining rock and this was great music. And Japan has produced nothing but great rock music since. It is almost like we in the West dropped the ball when grunge came along and they picked it up and made it happen in the Far East where it has done nothing but get better. Especially now with the rise of All Female Metal bands in Japan like LOVEBITES, Band Maid, Mary's Blood etc. and Funny thing about the arm brace. At the time of the shoot for Black and White according to the crew working on the video. MJ saw a crew member wearing one and liked it and had one made but asked to use the one the crewmember was wearing for the video. THIS story from the time the video was made and corroborated by the crew member some 25 years ago. Makes one wonder.

Okay I'm glad you mentioned grunge because I literally got into a small argument with two know it all types of girls from my old church years back. I said I hate what grunge did to rock and metal. So being the wise-azzes they were, they tried to say grunge, rock and metal were all the same thing. Mind you, neither of them listened to rock or metal. They were strictly grunge heads. I was so mad at the fact they tried to argue me down and say I was wrong. I ended up storming away and grabbing some rock, metal and grunge CDs, played them and from that point on, they could say nothing! Still can't believe their ignorance though!

Haha! Took me 15 years (got to know X Japan by accident in a videoke early 2007, with "Tears" already available) to be corrected the right pronunciation of his stage name. I thought its "Yosh-ki" (silent "I" in the middle). Glad to learn new info as well, like seeing him playing the piano by recording bigwigs convinced him to shift instruments. In "Endless Rain" (arguably their best known single) live performance, he completely plays piano with pre-programmed drums. Second is the lended arm braces to Michael Jackson, whom he thought Japan's fashion thing. X Japan deserves a ticket to Cleveland's Rock and Roll HOF. Gene Simmons seconds the motion. He cited if he's known as a Lebanese frontman instead of (naturalized) American, KISS wouldn't be able to achieve greatness. "Art of Life" is a must-listen, though I wish Taiji should be the bassist (he was fired a year prior its release). His playing has that semblance of Cliff Burton. And the way Yoshiki speaks reminds of Manu Ginobili, though the latter is more fluent.
