From the amount they talk about being friends, you would expect they are close. From Toshis book its clear they are coleagues, not friends. Toshi never contacted Yoshiki when he was in life-threatening trouble. Yoshiki knew whats going on as even media picked it up and still did not even turn in hospital to help him after he was beaten. Some "friends" they are pfff

you really can't blame him for leaving. he obviously was the victim of the situation. the thing about cults is they usually get to you when you are at your worst. being in desperation makes you do and believe a lot of things, even when you have your doubts in it. it is natural that yoshiki decided to disband x japan. i mean, imagine x with another vocalist. it definitely would not sound like them at all. he is undeniably one of the key members and without him, x japan would not be x japan.

I sympathize with Toshi and brainwash shouldn't be the exact word to use for the cult who had manipulated and abused him. The proper word should be, Gaslighting. Love bombing and triangulation.The disgusting things that the cults did to Toshi make me strongly believe that they are narcissists. Whatever damage is done cannot be undone but I'm glad that Toshi is good now and I will continue to support him be it, X Japan or Toshi Solo. I'm with him atw!!!!

Hey Josh: I'm pretty cynical. Hell, I grew up in Los Angeles, in from the 1960s-1995. Hard not to be cynical. I tend to give people I don't know, at least people in the music world, the benefit of the doubt. I wasn't there, I didn't see what happened, and I have a hard time slagging Toshi off for the break up of X, much like the whole Taiji thing. I've seen enough on cults, (Heavens Gate, Manson, the Moonies) to know that if you are in a vulnerable state of mind, for whatever reason, these organizations/ people can really fuck you up. I can't tell you how many times Scientology tried to lure us off the street in Hollywood (different story, lol). What this whole story does say, is a lot about Yoshiki and the other members. The fact that they accepted him back into the band, even after all the bullshit, does say a lot about the character. Now I'm being a pollyana and believing that there was no tension with the other members, but hey, I wasn't there, I'm not privy to what's being said behind closed doors. Sorry for rambling as usual. That's what happens when you're a writer and there's a comment section.
@PhoenixSplash7 жыл бұрын
I always enjoy reading your long comments :) I feel like Yoshiki was more broken about Toshi than angry. Hide was pretty pissed though. From watching the last live there's some interesting interactions. When they played Kurenai, Hide was giving him the evil eye when he sat close to him. Toshi put something around Hide too and Hide just stared at Pata shaking his head. It was pretty interesting to see...but yeah, It's cool that the band moved passed what Toshi did.
@Xia-hu7 жыл бұрын
Denise Mobers Toshi also talks about this in a press conf and also in the docu that he became really intimidated as a singer, also because Yoshiki pushed him really hard vocally. Nowadays he is less strict with Toshi, but back in those days I can imagine how hard he pushed for the perfect sound. Toshi also had issues with his family, his brother embezzled money from X management and stuff like that. I can imagine that he was pretty broken and vulnerable emotionally and that is exactly when this woman appeared and seemed to offer him healing. It is easy to fall for that, when you feel like nobody else listens to you. Mind you, these are Japanese guys. They don't really talk about perosnal feelings even between close friends. Toshi mentions he didn't even know Yoshiki was writing his lyrics from the pain of his dad's suicide. They were childhood friends and he didn't even know that for a long time. I can imagine that they were also not talking about Toshi's inner struggling, either. And these guys are artists, they are usually emotionally more unstable.

can't say 100% sympathize, but kinda feel understanding . Whether it was his decision or his wife prompted him to get brainwashed, the truth is getting brainwashed was not his original wish, or in other words, he got brainwashed unconsciously. Everybody has been through something, and some may leave scar on heart, which is unseen but miserable, therefore it is hard to explain why he would choose to look for something to rely on, but it is obvious he found the wrong one.

So Masaya and Wanku are still out and actively doing their thing after being exposed? Shouldn't they be in jail or something? lol. If I'm not mistaken, and you may correct me if I'm wrong, they brainwashed him during the period when Toshi felt conflicted with his family. So it's like a 'perfect timing' to get him down, so to speak. They used his conflicting feelings towards his family, his sadness and hate, as a base to in the process of brainwashing. That said, while I wholeheartedly sympathize with him, there's always a part of me felt disappointed at him because he chose to rely outsiders to sort out his issues. Toshi and Yoshiki have known each other for so long, I thought Yoshiki could have been Toshi's support system..but I guess that's just too much assumption. I felt sorry he had no one at the time. Now they're on acoustic tour and I'm so freaking jealous and bummed coz I'm not there to witness the concert. I wish they release something out of it. X

Damn, I knew about the Home of Heart thing but I never thought X Japan quit because of Toshi. I did read that because of Yoshikis lyrics he got emotionally unstable and that this was the reason Masaya and Wanku got their way with him. Anyway I don't blame Toshi for quitting. After all Yoshikis lyrics can be quite depressing. Read the lyrics for Art of Life if you don't believe me. And if you're in such an unstable state it's easy for people to brainwash you. I'm glad that at least he got out of there as lots of people are not so lucky.
@Misunao236 жыл бұрын
holy sauron To be honest, back in the day, I think Yoshiki was unreasonable in putting pressure on a Japanese man to speak like a native. His expectations were too large and it affected the people around him. He later admitted that he was too harsh on him and blamed himself for leaving. When things fell apart, he said "As a leader, I had to blame myself. What kind of family did I create?". As they got older, Yoshiki and Tosh1 got wiser and more understanding of limitations.
@metalfansavarani6 жыл бұрын
holy sauron the reason why his lyrics are so depressing was because he experienced a lot of pain with his dad killing himself and no one telling him why and being told he can’t play drums because of health reasons in fact he needed a oxygen tanks after every show so instead of complaining about his problems he wrote it with music.

After reading his book (12 Years of Hell), a question (amongst many other) remains : Toshi has been bought back (litterally) from Masaya by the former X manager. The contract stipulated that all Toshi's earnings shall go to Kaori & Masaya. Is the contract still valid ? I mean... I don't wan't to give money to those abominable pieces of shit when I go to see X and ToshI concerts, buy CD's etc. Please tell me that even if Kaori & Masaya stole everything Toshi had, they don't earn money anymore for exploiting him ? thank you if you can answer me :)
@PhoenixSplash6 жыл бұрын
I believe from what I read, that he took them to court over it and I know Masaya's career as well as Kaori's is pretty much done...but yeah it's not very clear. I know that Toshi sometimes spells his name "ToshI" probably to get around the contract...but I doubt the contract is still valid, there would be no reason for Toshi or anyone to renew it. Makes wonder if that's the reason the album keeps getting delayed...but yeah your guess is as good as mine.

The yoko ono of x Japan and Toshi was the John Lennon
@PhoenixSplash7 жыл бұрын
Ha ha lol yeah that's what I was thinking lol
@X3000Chan6 жыл бұрын
Why is Yoko Ono the brainwasher? Why not Linda Eastman McCartney? Both were artists of other mediums who collaborated with their husbands. Does Linda being a white, blonde American not qualify her as band destroyer? And furthermore, McCartney and Lennon were both fully grown men who'd dealt with fame and were starting families. Don't blame women for their or John's decisions. John was perfectly capable of making his own decisions. Yoko was a popular visual artist in her own right before she even met him. If anyone tried to pull the manipulative move, it would have been Cynthia who was infatuated with him in school, dyed her hair blonde when she heard he liked blondes. He never wanted to marry her, but he got her knocked up so tried to do the right (or socially responsible thing). I know maybe you're just commenting that Kaori and Yoko look alike because they're both Japanese, but Kaori literally grew up in this cult. And toshi said in his book, that he later felt or realized that she'd planned with Masaya to attract him and bring him into the group when she met him in a musical they did together. But toshi thought that even getting him to do the musical in the first place might have been orchestrated by them. She lived with Toshi for one year and Masaya for the other 11 or whatever it was. It's just not at all the same as John meeting, dating, and marrying Yoko, and later on deciding he didn't want to go on with that project that had already passed the peak of their fame. Artists are allowed to quit their band and do other projects, even if they are The Beatles and the fans don't want it. Yoshiki was really dragging out the band at that time. They were all doing their own projects all along, which is great, but by Dahlia Tour (in which Toshi was already being drawn into the cult) the band had kind of hit the height of their fame and would have at least taken a break until 2000. Toshi's book was translated into English by some really amazing and dedicated fans. I'll post it in the main thread.

@Xia-hu6 жыл бұрын
I have no idea what Ao3 is. About not talking, these are Japanese dudes. Japanese culture is really different, they don't encourage sharing personal issues and troubling others with your own inner issues. This is exactly why most japanese people are screwed up emotionally, and there are so many suicides there. they simply don't talk about serious emotional stuff. Hack, the Japanese don't even say "I love you" to each other. They don't use the word "aishiteru" which stands for love, they only say "like", the same word they use to like objects, food or other material stuff. It's a very emotionally restrictive culture. Pretty difficult for us to understand all of this, because we have a different background.
