I have a lot of respect for all the women who competed in pageants like Miss USA, Miss America, Miss Universe and other pageants. I never realized so much of work is put into a pageant by each contestant, such as filling out information, choosing outfits, gowns etc for each day, also traveling throughout the state and country, other things like practicing for interviews, talent competitions, walking rehearsals etc. This video was very educational. A lot of things happen behind the scenes. We as viewers only see the final result.

Dani you should be a chaperone at Miss USA or even Miss Universe! Or is that only for older women? Because I saw a BTS video for Miss Universe, and one of the chaperones actually competed in Miss Universe before, how cool is that? Seeing how much you love pageants, I thought this would be cool for you to do. 😊

That is awesome. Idk how to chaperone but I know that many of the women have been around for decades. My house mom brought photos from when NSYNC debuted at Miss Teen USA! It was so cool to see.

I think you are very articulate and have a wonderful spirit and inner beauty to match your outer beauty. Too often we are unwilling to take an honest look at how we are seen. Being willing to do this is amazing and a great example of what we should be doing for all of the goals we have. Regarding miss USA since IMG took over It does seem they are looking for the hook, that one identifiable thing that perpetuates the narrative of expanding perceptions of a diverse group of women. I’ve watched pageants since 1974 And there has definitely been a shift at various stages. True pageant fans want the US to send a universe winner, And quite frankly we can always tell if we’re going to have a shot to win miss universe or not. But we cheer our title holder nonetheless. Ultimately I think contestants should treasure the journey and the experience Because that’s what they can control. The miss universe organization I think determines in advance the 3 to 5 women they want to win And those are the women you see in all the packages during the broadcast. It is up to those 3 to 5 women to deliver pageant night. Some luck can help such as Nevada Nia Sanchez being able to include her self defense training in all her responses. It all fell into place. I was sitting in that audience and everyone around me knew she would win. So in the end being strategic is important As is being authentic and comfortable with who you are because that’s who you need to be and that’s who will show up on stage that night. If you combine strategy with preparation and authenticity - that’s all you can ask of yourself. And enjoy the process.

The whole swimsuit situation happened at the 2018 United States national pageant. By the time I got into the room to pick a suit, there was very slim pickings. Thankfully we were allowed to wear something we brought so I wore something else on stage.

It's interesting how each country has different rules. Stephanie Hill did Miss England at least 4 times before she won then came top 3 at Miss World. You had the same lady first runner-up twice at Miss World America recently. As you say though, other countries/systems absolutely won't let you go back more than once to do it differently. I remember judging Miss Gibraltar (a territory of Great Britain). If you were 2nd or 3rd you had to leave it a year to give somebody else a chance then go back if you wanted to after that if you hadn't aged out.

@DaniWalker4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, if I'd been aware of those systems years ago when I started competing as a Miss, I probably would have tried all of them to see the best fit. The pageant experience is really important to me. Unfortunately many of those pageants didn't have a national pageant in the US when I was age eligible. I think that back then I would have excelled at Miss International, with the right styling. Public speaking is my strength. Prior to competing at Miss USA I won speech competitions inside and outside of pageantry, at the local, state and national level.

@@DaniWalker I have been watching your videos for a couple of years. and, yes, I also do think that Miss International or Miss World would have been perfect for you due to your speaking prowess. and I could say the same thing for some previous Miss USA contestants. Hi Dani! I really loved this episode. I am picking out an evening gown for my state competition in the Miss America Organization. I know styling is so important, and I just feel like there are hidden "rules" that I don't quite understand as someone who is new to the pageant world. For example, how much skin is appropriate to show, or if a big cape/train would be appropriate, that kind of thing! Do you have any tips for learning about these things and becoming more pageant savvy? I love watching videos (like yours) and doing my research but I feel it only gets me so far. I know so many people say the rules have been thrown out and to just be you- but that doesn't always seem to truly be the case! Thank you so much!

I totally know what you mean. Unfortunately what you're asking for requires experience with style and pageantry. Style is tough because it varies person-to-person, system-to-system and season-to-season. It's a personalized experience depending on what wardrobe is available, budget, sizing, and contestant features. I have a style guide for pageants that provides a basic break down with some style tips. daniwalkerofficial.com/product/danis-style-guide/ If you need extra help, I also offer personal wardrobe styling. daniwalkerofficial.com/product/wardrobe-styling/

Interviews can cause lot of anxiety. Should Miss USA and other pageants be asking contestants the same question rather than different questions ? How does one score interviews when issues and topics are so different? One contestant might get an easy topic, another may not. Lots of subjectivity goes into interview scoring. That's one area Dani, I would like to see changed at the pageants. Some contestants do well in all segments, but they don't win.
@DaniWalker4 жыл бұрын
I love that Philippines asked every contestant the same 10 questions and every contestant had 30 seconds to respond. I've never seen that before but I thought it was a really level playing field. The interviews we have vary greatly. I remember contestants getting asked, "if you don't win, who would you chose for the crown. Don't be vague, say her state." Contestants had to answer that our year, while others said they got asked incredibly simple questions like "how are you enjoying the pageant so far?"
@PungiFungi4 жыл бұрын
I like it back in the days when at Miss USA and Miss Universe each contestant talk to each judge one on one, whereas it appears today you talk to them as a panel which I think is more nerve wracking..and it appears the questions are so much more political now. At least back during the days of Bob Barker, he stressed there were no right or wrong answers and contestants are really judged on their personality, poise and ability to express themselves...although a clever response do help.
@acfarob694 жыл бұрын
Yes, you actually came up in conversation the other day with my friend and I. We really rely on your in put when it comes to pageants. Just some observations. It must be nerve racking for the contestants shopping for various outfits for each and every day of a pageant like Miss USA. Is there anybody contestants can go for advice with regard to gown selection? What outfits they should wear etc? It must be heavy stakes in terms of money, time and effort. I would be especially disappointed if you are not successful. What does one do with gowns and outfits after Miss USA or other beauty pageants are finished? This is another issue for me for Miss USA and other pageants.
@DaniWalker4 жыл бұрын
You can ask your coaches, directors or friends/family for help. Some directors/sponsors have a huge say in what a contestant will wear. I know that my year, some queens were only given 3 gown options to choose from, by their director and sponsor. Idk about queens now but you usually get to keep your USA gown. Some contestants didn't keep gowns in the past because they borrowed them from sponsors. This is more typically of true couture styles that can cost up to 40k.

If I do not know any better, it appears the pageant kept its contestants in the dark about a lot things and requirements. And I wonder if some FAVORED contestants were told ahead of time by the organization about things they need to do. The fact that some contestants have first dibs over the choice of swimsuit is a red flag.
@DaniWalker4 жыл бұрын
We're definitely kept in the dark about a lot of things. They say it's so no one has an unfair advantage. They don't like to give contestants a lot of prep time for things or else a contestant with lots of money or sponsors would have time to show up with the most elaborate wardrobe, etc.
