Hi Dan, nice video. Thank you so much for sharing this. At 3:36 the Stereo Pan turns orange because you've unintentionally swapped the Left and Right channel. You can CMD+Click on the pan knob (in stereo mode) to do that. Have a great day!

I'm glad to hear that Mrs.Mills still lives in Abbey Road Studios. Even today she's thoroughly recognizable. A few years ago I read an article that said she was for sale! How insane is that? Have a great day sir! Thanks for this fine video.

I love your completely deadpan sense of humour... “if that’s a thing”, “you can thank me later”. You are taking off sir! But and also, I love your precise-and-extremely-useful production tips... you certainly earn your “composer and *producer*” label by a very long shot, dear leader. And yes it is a very nice day here in Australia. How did you know?

I wish they’d release the upright piano from ableton live 11 for general consumption. It’s the best sounding piano I’ve heard outside of keyscape.

Two years late, but the Ableton Upright just cannot be beat IMO. I use it on any song I use piano on.

Using the vintage mic it should be quieter on either side? How does it compare to Abbey Road Classic Upright Pianos? Maybe it is a condenser mic? A couple of very nice effects vst, to say the very least. Though i have an addiction for vst effects and instruments, they seem essential vst....

Thank you for a good video, i make with the piano patch Sample from Logic (Yamaha Grand) the trick with transpose it works, the sounds are different than normal (no transpose) way. You can add some exiter from Phat FX and tape sim from Delay Tape 0,0ms (both are Logics plugins) Cheers!

Sounds cool, Will experiment with this. Does have to be said, that if you can be bothered to learn what the native plugins in yuyr DAW of choice can do, you can save yourself a lot of money on lots of 3rd party plugins. Sadly, it seems, too many people get suckered into the GAS of those "essential" plugins that too many people try to sell us, when a bit of experimentation with what you already have can create equally great sounds. I do have the Moddart Pianoteq Plugin (stage version) and will try out some techniques with this, as well as the Logic native pianos.

Dan quick question, if you have the time, i own Intimate Grand Originals, looking for another one, what's your goto Originals piano? also, can you apply this hack to the Firewood Piano? was thinking of getting to complement the INt, Grand Orig., thoughts on best Orig. piano ??

Very nice hack! Sounds much better. Is there an easy way to set the Tune control on Mrs. Mills to a precise setting? I've found the only way to change the tuning is using the mouse and it's not precise at all -kinda like trying to do delicate surgery with a pair of pliers!
@DanKeenMusic3 жыл бұрын
If you hold down control while you move it becomes more precise, but I'll speak to the team and see if they have any tips

Comparison between the Mrs Mills Piano in the Cinesamples Abbey Road Classic Upright Piano Instrument vs this one by Spitfire? I think this one sounds much better than the discontinued Cinesamples Instrument.
@goldenultraАй бұрын
IDK the old one has a cool display. Try putting the modern mic off, then increase the stereo width of the vintage mic and the studio 2 reverb it sounds as good as this hack. As it has the stereo and increase stereo width built in?

Hi Dan, liked your video. One question: In the Plugin GUI there is this tuning knob. I can't fine-tune it with the mouse to exactly 3st. Is there a trick? Thanks
@Simeon_Harris3 жыл бұрын
hi dan. right click or control click on the pan knob turns it orange and inverts left and right
@KBizzy3 жыл бұрын
Do you think this would work the same way by panning via the Spitfire player instead of the track panning?
@DanKeenMusic3 жыл бұрын
I would think so, I just did this as I could be sure it was using stereo panning not balance panning
@alexbeckhellingvlog3 жыл бұрын
I’m intrigued as to why that transposing trick would make it use different samples? Is it because each instance would catch a different round robin?
@DanKeenMusic3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, by transposing the MIDI track up/down, you're telling the instrument to play different notes. Tuning it within the instrument plugin pitch shifts the sound back so the A you play is the A you hear. Hope that makes sense
@alexbeckhellingvlog3 жыл бұрын
@@DanKeenMusic aha thanks Dan. I didn't realise the tuning actually pitch shifted the samples in the plugins. i completely get it now. and I did a review of the Mrs Mills piano on my channel its self haha.
@superblondeDotOrg3 жыл бұрын
@@DanKeenMusic Equal Temperment doesnt work that way because of the rounding error between notes (pitch "comma") so perhaps the resultant off-tuning is in essence adding a chorus effect to the result. 🧐

Great video :) love your playing although that's not the point of the video. Do you know you're doing the same hack your 'boss' explained and uses all the time as well?
@DavidFedele3 жыл бұрын
Is this a technique that you would also suggest/recommend for all other piano VSTs? And I assume this would be mostly used when just mixing a solo piano? What about if you are adding other instruments into the mix? The left and right panning is something I also do when I use piano VSTs (I also duplicate a third channel, panned in the centre) ... but the transposing up in the VST and down in the DAW is not something I've ever seen or considered ... will try it out, thanks for the "hack". :-)
@KBizzy3 жыл бұрын
I’d think this technique would introduce phase issues in a full mix. I could be wrong though

I like that piano but when I tried it with a colleague, I noticed some very out of tune notes like the G#2
@Robert-kx8mp3 жыл бұрын
I don’t see how this would work to trigger different samples. The MIDI transpose at the Login track level is going to send different notes into the plugin. The plugin transpose is going to reverse that and in the end, won’t the plugin be playing the same notes, i.e. the same samples?
@DanKeenMusic3 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, the tuning down in the plug-in is not transposing midi, it’s pitch shifting the samples
