That Mellow without tacks setting is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve been playing with it for a few hours now, and the tacks are fun, but the Mellow patch is something else. Of course, the samples are pristine, but in particular, the after-note resonance/decay of each note on Mellow has so much colour and emotion.

I’m lucky enough to own a 1932 Challen Baby grand which is currently being restored after being in storage for 11 years . I had searched and travelled the uk for year to find one in working order and within my budget….on the eve of quitting the quest …as if by some unreasonably remote stroke of luck a local piano shop had ‘the one’ for sale. The Challen range were one of the the goto Iconic instruments in many studios and broadcasting organizations for many decades. I think it’s great that the Upright is now available in the Originals format as this provides folks accessibility to yet another iconic option in the form of this sonically pleasing instrument. In my opinion the Challen range fits nicely into and shines in a chamber ensemble or in a mix with other voices . Have fun 🙏🙏🏿👍

Please help me out guys! I'm not sure if Spitfire reads the comments here. I noticed that the loudness on the keyboard isn't spread evenly. Some notes are louder than others, even when played with the same velocity. I guess this adds to the natural sound of the piano, but in my case the difference in loudness is just too high. Can you guys please check the b6 note? Do you also feel like it's too loud compard to the notes next to it? Might just be my perception. But if other people notice that too, it would be great if the Spitfire team could a slider that makes these differences in loudness optional. So slider down - normal sound (all keys same volume). Slider all the way up - natural sound (the way it is right now). Can you please add that in an update? Maybe the original piano has that discrepancy too, but digitally it should be more practical to have the notes at the same loudness right?

Could someone tell me some recordings that use the tack piano sound? When I hear it on it's own it sounds a bit harsh to me, but I guess in a mix it can help push the piano through. The other sound is great, just a bit confused why this particular tack piano mod is popular.
@ohernie3 жыл бұрын
He's not playing it traditionally. It's sound is tailored toward tavern ragtime and boogie. The metal tacks made the piano to cut through the noise of the drunken crowd. The brighter the better. This isn't really a sweet ballad type of piano. It's Martha Raye, as opposed to Julie Andrews. The mod is popular because it doesn't ruin the hammers. Tacks break up the felt. Take them back out and you've got a mellow ballad "felt" piano.
