Dan Lok One thing you should also consider about this particular hand tool ... It should rather be used and further perfected as a significant part of your arsenal to an extent that goes well beyond the targeted areas mentioned or describe in this video. Simply and respectfully because Bruce Lee was the type of teacher / martial arts instructor who really didn't believe in limiting anything he did. So since the human body has by far more than the amount of vulnerable points that you can strike at then what's wrong with allowing your backfist to cover any place that hurts on the body other than the tagetted areas mentioned in this video? EXAMPLE!= If a carpenter's hammer can hurt your nerve endings such as your toe or even a finger no matter if you are standing or executing some kind of suddsn ground level attack then why not consider the hammer fist to be used where ever there's existing soft tissue?. You should be able to multiply it's use like a fricken paint brush immediately with deceptive motor skills as a means to support the transmission of force prior to making contact in close quarter fighting non telegraphically. Bruce Lee's TRUE version of JKD had no limits to it what so ever. As a matter of fact as a developmental craft it really had no end either except his untimely death. He made his JKD an ongoing movement in every sense of its meaning. Every man's JKD will not be exacty like Bruce's however it must be claimed as his own instead. Just like Bruce every student should exercise his mind body and spirit through research and learn to overcome his own personal obstructions in life where there are limits to be challenged within himself until he raises up the bar and suceeds in breaking through every possible barrier. Bruce left behind so many clues to his art which always had everything to do with an ever growing readiness to be perfected on an individual basis though with much simplicity. Constant practice is the overall road to increase and master your JKD. Bruce Lee never stopped learning nor self-learning teaching nor self teaching. He obviously would've continued training and ever evolving into more revolutionary dimensions in his art if it had not been for death. Those of us who still eat the fragments of what he left behind are obligated to merely take what we can and make it effectively better for ourselves. It's not to be better them someone else's art or form or means of existing in what ever they do but merely in what we do. This backfist hand tool along with everything else is not exempt from this reality! JKD is everything to be worked on to perfection. It's not a God. It's more like a scientific way of self betterment on a daily quest

I found you can combine a hammerfist after a back elbow in the same strike. A 9 to 6 elbow left to right or reversed with the left elbow
@stephanwatson79025 жыл бұрын
simion pop you could use the jkd concepts to improve your boxing, you'd basically be a distance boxer staying out of range looking for openings. Avoiding the pocket and only blocking as a last resort. But jkd is street fighting, its made to use all your tools not just boxing.

I have the instinct to fight. I've been shadow boxing for years my own style and I've been using backfists as my jabs because they are much faster and more mechanically correct, it's much easier it feels to me. I love the science behind the correct way to throw strikes

I use backfist as my jab. After I created an opening with either the stun or the block break I usually follow up with a cross or a roundhouse. Backfist is a very great move indeed. Now, I learned here how to use the backfist better so I guess I'll be overall better at creating openings. Thanks so much man

Bruce Lee’s backlist came from Mantis, from Master Fook Yueng. It can be practiced with a snapping the towel type motion, to follow through motion. Accuracy is a must, and has to be trained in isolation, and with massive repetition.

JKD backfists plus rear straight punches (JKD combo) are actually Wingchun chain punches plus torso rotations. That's why in one cycle of torso rotation boxing/muay Thai could only do 2 punches but JKD can do 3 punches and 1 blocking in a cycle of torso rotation. I can illustrate more if I meet you up, Dan

You can also use the back fist as a bone strike by attacking the ear and using the entire ridge of the hand including the bone just below the wrist that sticks out. It then basically becomes a clubbing strike.

The back fist strike must come from combinations of (spring force from muscles of the arm + snapping force of the wrist + torque force from a synchronized hip twisting motion) - this need training and repeated exercises. I am speaking as a trained Karate student and as an an engineer who studied physics of motion. It is all about instantly combining the various forces from different parts and muscles of your body in a highly concerted fashion. Training is the bottom line.

@larryleguizamon29062 жыл бұрын
From experience the back fist is hard for opponent to anticipate. This strike always landed and I didn't know why. It was because it can be delivered from a static position with out shoulder motion which a good fighter can read the body language from and counter. It's useful to distract your opponent and land a power punch or kick.
@mervinmarias92832 жыл бұрын
That is because the back fist comes from your opponents blind spot. You also don't have time to watch the elbow like a jab.

@Aris19Q5 жыл бұрын
You actually get the body mechanics right, which actually is a rare thing to see, and, because of that you in turn teach the combat applications of the technique spot on. The only thing i would like to add is that this is actually a wing chun technique. This is no surprise, of course, as jeet kune do is a sub-set of Ip Man's wing chun. Not many people know this, but Lee never got to finish his training on wing chun because of Yip Man being a stubborn old man, but because Bruce was so extremely hard working on top of talented, he developed jeet kune do on his own, thinking it was something outside of the wing chun system. Of course, this only adds to Lee's greatness.
