I am south korean. I have been wearing danner lights for around 7 years. I traveled and hike a lot with these boots even rocky mountains in Canada. I just resoled twice. as a big fan of boots I got redwing, Chippewa , White's, Wesco.... but if I have to pick only one, it's absolutely danner lights

How much CAD does it cost to resole it bud?

What a strange coincidence you're uploading these right as I'm getting very curious about more danners. Thank you!

Thanks for this very good set of Danner reviews. I bought two pairs of this reviewed "Light" model nylon/leather with 8" uppers in 2005 at half price and thought I had a steal. I foolishly waterproofed the nylon area with boot grease so they didn't breath very well. I wore one pair out working a northern Canadian bush job but I still have the second pair all these years later for the odd hikes I still do. It's been resoled with a second Vibram sole, the sole on those boots in this review, and waxed til the leather is like putty but it's still going strong. They've been excellent boots. Having been sold on Danner quality, a few years ago I bought a closing out sale pair of a Danner Duty Master 8" that had been sitting in a warehouse for 20 years, the model is from 1998. They've got a black vibram sole but it's a work sole with little tread and very thick hard rubber, harder than the style on your review boots and not listed at either Vibram or Danner. I only found one review about the Duty Master online about it since its almost predates the internet and the reviewer had used a few pairs of them in heavy construction for many years of wear. So I contacted Danner about them and they are so old they had no info anymore, but said the glues wouldn't last 20 years. Well they were in awesome shape even sitting in storage that long, and I conditioned the leather carefully with water based conditioner, threw insoles into them and I've been wearing them the last three winters on wet, snowy city asphalt and they are excellent- glues, sole and leather both like new, no sole separation, no leather or rubber degradation, no stitch problems at all. Really awesome, indestructible products the US made Danners.

i'd love to see a long term, thorough review of these. while still being high-quality, technical hiking boots, they have the most translatable look for street/casual wear, which, considering the steep cost, makes the Danner Lights an overall better investment than the others.

irajaxon I completely agree. I’d love to see a long term review for these.

About the nylon panel: I feel like there's quite a few reasons. I've had the acadias which have the nylon panel, and the fort Lewis which is basically the same boot but all leather and like twice as tall. I think the nylon is lighter and quite a bit less stuff, but it's also a consideration that they don't scuff up as much. I think in a hiking boot that's a consideration. I find that I hit the insides of the heels on my shoes with the sole of the other boot in rough terrain, and it'll kind of just drag on the nylon as opposed to leaving marks in leather in the same section. It might be a bit more breathable, but with a goretex liner there's only so much breathability you're going to get either way. With the acadias I think it's a consideration that it's quicker to condition and shine less total leather on the boot. Maybe it makes the boot cheaper to produce as well. Not that danner boots are generally cheap... It also looks sick to have the two tones with the nylon panel. Those are just my very unscientific unresearched thoughts though.

The welt only matters once you have to replace the midsole. Otherwise save yourself money and go to a local cobbler who can cut off the outsole and replace it for about $60 instead of getting the recrafting package for like $270.
@Jv808UHM4 жыл бұрын
the recrafting package is only intended for super old boots that have damaged leather or the liner is in horrible shape. For the outsole, you can still go to a local cobler and get the cheap price. I have a pair of Danner lights and Mountain lights I recently got the outsoles fixed for, and it cost me 45 bucks a piece.

While I'm sure it's been covered (haven't looked at all comments) the Bull Runs are amazing, when taking into account what they are meant for. The workplace i.e. construction/indoor work, they are perfect. I appreciated the video and your views, but they are very specific in the build and use. They do talk about the job-specific use of these boots which is minimal use on asphalt and mainly concrete flooring and the sole is non-conductive for electrical use.

small point: in what english speaking world does the name spelled D A N N E R gets pronounced DAYNA? i think DANNER rhymes with "planner" is more accurate.
@babybirdflieshigh4 жыл бұрын
That's what I thought, DANer, not DAYNAR.. but experience shows me I'm sometimes wrong...For most my life I thought Adidas was simply "Ah-De-dus", but the Japanese & Europeans say "AH! - dedas". The British also say DECKall...Americans say Dee-Cal (decals on model airplanes). The there's rifle scopes from Leupold...the company says LEW-Pold...yet many say LEO-pold, which is wrong, but they still say it. Lastly...Jaguar. The Brits say Jag-U-ar..ok that's cool. Americans say Jagwaar...but some disturbingly say Jag-WIRE Jag-Why-EERrrrr...WHAT???

babybirdflieshigh I think there should be less leeway when it comes to name pronunciations.

Yes I was confused by that.. Perhaps despite buying three pairs of boots he did not notice that there are two n’s in the brand name.

There’s really no maintenance on the the nylon material just brush them off when needed or just a warm damp cloth to clean it. They are great light weight boots that will last, but a little bit on the pricey side tho.

This is a great series! I’ve always been interested in Danner boots, but haven’t had a chance to try them. Please check out Origin Maine Boots! I would like to know the quality of those. They have their own denim as well, so they seem like your kind of company!

The toebox looks so narrow. I have a very wide foor and I usually wear US 9.5 in New Balances, Nikes, etc. Should I go 9.5 or should I go 10?

I thought that the nylon panel was added to cut down on the weight of the boot. In contrast to the other hiking boots of the time, but I don't know for sure

The only thing I dislike about the style of those boots are the welts they are very prominent. I would recommend the Vasque but they have gone downhill in quality.

Dont do anything to the Cordura Nylon upper, treat the leather to protect as normal. I've had a pair since 2012 and they're perfect. I've had other Danner's since 1998 that I still use. Theyre not sexy, but they work.

I hate the overall aesthetic; glorified hiking boots. Hate the methodology of the welt; highly likely that you will ruin it and as noted it can’t be repaired. Hate the sole; looks horrendous and most people don’t go hiking regularly. In short, I would rather watch an episode of Eastenders than wear those boots. Hate them.
