I ended up on stage with Danny during a pantomine he was in at the Bristol Hipodrome in the 1980s. I was one of about 4 or 5 kids picked from the audeince to go on stage and say our names, ages etc and then be given sweets and balloons. I was the littlest and he singled me out to stay on stage once the other kids had gone back to their seats and did some light hearted mickey taking and I remember him being so kind, asking if I was OK off microphone and bending down and holding my hand when I got a bit overwhelmed. I came off that stage barely able to walk under all the sweets so we gave them to the other children around where we were sitting. My mum says when we got home I told her he was a kind man and I would marry him when I got older (I was bout 4 or 5!!). Danny, thank you for a lovely childhood memory, I hope you are resting in well deserved peace xx

I had the pleasure of meeting Dan on his first tour to the Perth Concert Hall in Western Australia in the 70's. Following that meeting, it resulted in Dan and Jack, becoming very close friends with my husband and two children. We had the pleasure of seeing Dan and Jack many times, during our many trips to the UK. ie Blackpool, Nottingham, opening night of Hello Dolly in London. We stayed at Dan's, The Swan Inn in beautiful Streatley, and Waltham Hall. During a further tour of Australia, including Western Australia, Dan and Jack visited our home for lunch. We treasure our special friendship we had, to this day, October 2023. Life brought great sadness with the passing of Jack, Danny, my husband Peter, and at the age of 84 I am now in an Aged Care Facility. So many cherished and treasured memories from the years gone by. RIP darling Danny, our family loved you so very much and we were blessed to have your friendship. ❤❤

That was so respectful and informative, and to see him buried with Mr Hanson was so unexpectedly beautiful. He spent the last few years of his life on Southampton and was often see around. The first time I met him I walked into a very quiet club (The Mag) on a wet, cold January night in the late 90's. Danny was sat at the bar with the owner. For an hour or so there were just the four of us, he bought us bottles of champagne and entertained us to the point I was aching with laughter. Such a gentleman, very much deserves his place in the greats of entertainment. Thanks Paul

I remember my mum watching Danny when I was little. I remember having a struggle acknowledging that he was a man dressed up as a lady. When I grew up into my teens it used to fascinate me how he could put makeup on better than ever managed to do…I’m no better today+usually look like a clown when I attempt to get made up now. My mum loved him, as did I…he opened the door for Lily Savage…so he’s got a lot to be proud of…he had a very posh speaking voice as far as I remember, but he was fabulous!!! Rest In Peace Danny…hope you’re looking down+knowing how much you’ve done for the great drag queens who you opened the door for+how much you’re loved by many!!! Still loving your great videos, keep going young man, you’re doing a fantastic job!!! X❤️🙃

" If any of you cry at my funeral, I'll never speak to you again.! " Stan laurel.... Great as always Paul, Danny was ahead of his time for certain, imagine living or working in office or housing when completed looking over the grave site, of course many people already do that in built up area's... I live rural so rarely happens... I always like the way you add a little humour, even when the weather is poor, always upbeat! Cheers Paul 🍻

I met Danny when I saw him in cabaret doing one-man-shows in, I think, 1999. He was sweet, gracious and down to earth. Thank you for a respectful and courteous video showing us Danny's final resting place. He was so much more than a drag act: his impersonations as women were always done tastefully, and he never mocking or sexist whilst performing in a frock. I never knew his grave is in Kensal Rise. I think he’d indeed have had something to say about the building going up in the background lol.

Awww so many good memories watching him all through my childhood and teens. He was an amazing entertainer, loved him so much. He sounds like an independent man in real life, always trying to succeed and having bad luck but he still kept trying to rise above it, a very good man, such a shame that cancer reared its ugly head twice. Thank you for showing this Paul, made me sad but happy, loved listening to his life through you. Much respect Danny LaRue rip xx

I remember Danny from watching Royal Command Performances as a kid in the 1970s. He was at that stage a bit much for the Kiwi humour, we were more in to Fred Dagg and Foot Rot Flats at that time. Great video Paul! A friend of mine called Micky lived in Kensal Rise,he and his mum are both Irish and frequently attended mass at The Catholic Church of Transfiguration were Danny‘s funeral was held. I do remember him telling me they also attended the funeral as they were regulars at that church. Cool car in the start of the video and those tower blocks are hideous and should have never been Given planning permission overlooking St Mary’s as it’s disrespectful. ✝️

As always, thank you for this. I thought Mr La Rue an excellent entertainer, seeing him sometimes when l cut through Cavendish Square. It was very noble of him to repay monies owed when he was innocent of the crime which ruined him. I ALWAYS think of the poem by G.K. Chesterton, which ends "For there is good news yet to hear and fine things to be seen, Before we go to Paradise by way of Kensal Green". Rest in Peace.

He was a great entertainer. There is a lesson learnt here never sign anything until your lawyer and you have read it. Signed away his life didn’t he. I wonder what happened to the thief’s who did that to him. Anyway the lovely lady looked after him till the end. Thankyou Paul your videos are simply the best. RIP Danny. ❤

Well done Paul, another great video! Loved watching Danny on TV when I was growing up and still enjoy watching him in some of the surviving episodes of ‘The Good Old Days’ where is was a regular performer. Interesting what you said about the cemetery. My wife and I had a few coach holidays in Austria some years ago. Austria is a Catholic country and their cemeteries are amazing. The ones we saw were much smaller than cemetery’s tend to be in the UK but the graves were immaculately kept and usually had a small lantern mounted in front of the headstone that family would light at night, very pretty. Keep ‘em coming!

My Mums Grandad was Irish like Danny La Rue, born in County Cork. My Mum came from a large family of 10, including 8 sisters and two brothers. Born and raised in Stepney, East London. My Mum and her family was fond of Danny La Rue, and saw him many times performing on stage throughout the years. But with the greatest respect, the catholic cemetery my Mum and Sister is buried in; City of London Cemetery & Crematorium has much more greenery there, including Roses next to my Mum and Sisters memorial plaques, and a lovely cafe there and a beautiful church. Apparently, the cemetery is owned by City of London in the city and is well maintained throughout the year. It’s just a shame Danny La Rues cemetery is overlooked by those new developments, and looks like it’s out in the open too much, with hardly any trees to hide the buildings overlooking the cemetery. But there was some beautiful headstones there Paul.
