Normally, I love Larry, but it wasn't one of his better vocals...however, Danny really sounds great on this!!! And knowing his struggles to record the drums on 17...it is a tribute to his character to go into the shed...with God and the drums and come back out as good ever...And it warms my heart to see Bill again...

So glad that Danny and Bill are friends again. I read his book and Bill was one of the members who were out to fire him, along with Jason, Robert, James, Lee and Walt, basically the whole band. Definitely a bad time for Danny, but I'm glad he's all right now.

Bill kills it on Hard Habit to Break he made mistakes but firing Danny was his fault alone it would have happened anyway they all need to just make amends water has dementia I read and life is too short Terry should have taught us all that
@lamarravery409411 ай бұрын
@@aprilgosa5779 Danny was the one who brought Bill and David Foster in the band. Then Bill tries to get him fired, how ironic is that? Also Danny's decisions throughout the yrs kept the band going, he told the band to look at their contracts with their first producer and they all blew him off, but Danny kept telling them to look and when they finally did they realized the producer had been taking 100% of the song royalties, so they renegotiated the contracts and then fired their producer. And Danny recommended Foster to be their producer later and they made a huge comeback in the 80s because of those decisions. The band owes a lot to Danny's business instincts.

I feel like Champlin is singing better with Seraphine & CTA then when he was with Chicago durning his last few years with them, I like that CTA are playing more true to the classic arrangement of hard habit to break compared to what Chicago Is doing as of late. Also this guitar player, plays tastefull & true to the classic songs.

Good take--how is Chicago changing it compared to this excellent version? Are they softer/harder?

Yeah, I have to call it like I hear it. Larry is usually quite good, but not on this one. This is coming from someone who wants to see CTA succeed.
@johnanderson17878 жыл бұрын
This song has a lot of abrupt key changes and Larry just isn't hearing them. He needed a LOT more rehearsal before performing this. I have the first CTA album (with the Pankow Ballet on it) and Larry is tremendous on it but this. . .isn't suitable to be at a high school dance. If this were an American Idol audition Randy would be covering his mouth to hide his laughter. Pathetic. And really, Bill sounds like crap on this, too. For that matter, I've never heard him sound good live, certainly not on the old Terry Kath stuff. Pardini is a huge upgrade for Chicago.
@craigthomas9216 жыл бұрын
Disagree with your opinion on Champlin. He's an improvisational singer, much like Ray Charles. He never sings anything the exact same way twice. But the stuff he comes up with is almost always better than the original melody. The problem is that most people want to hear the melody from the record, so it's really just a matter of taste...

Hey Aaron, I was at all the show in NYC, Thur-Sun and honestly thought Larry really didn't handle this song well. IMO he should stick to the soulful song vocals. Glad you came and enjoyed the show on the 8th!
@mannytuazon990611 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with Lisa. I'm actually a huge fan of Larry Braggs, especially when he was still with Tower of Power. IMO, he's one of their best lead singers ever. Emilio Castillo himself said that Larry was the best singer they've had since the 70s. That said, he was simply no Peter Cetera on this song. To begin with, he hit a flat note on 03:15. From 03:43 to 03:55, he was clearly straining and singing flat and discordant harmony with Bill Champlin. Same thing happened from 04:29 to 04:43. Ditto from 05:29 to 05:43. Perhaps, he sang this song much better during another night but this night he was simply off. I further agree with Lisa that singing R&B/Soul songs is Larry's best genre and not Rock ballad.
@Lisalee6611 жыл бұрын
Manuel Tuazon Thanks Manuel. Larry sang this song equally as bad ALL nights. Not his fault, it's just not his thing...and while I wouldn't expect ANYONE to sound like Cetera (and no one does), I've definitely heard better attempts. Check out Bill doing this song with T.O.B.B.(The Original Bullshit Band)i~~Norwegian band that kicks some major MAJOR ass. There's a video up here on youtube somewhere. Lemme know what you think :-)

Lisa Lee Agree, not very familiar with Larry, but this is clearly just not his thing. He’s definitely not connected to this song. Bill on the other hand sounds great. I have come to see lately that many people had trouble with Bill’s improvising, but I quite enjoy it.

@terryroberts596010 жыл бұрын
I get what he's doing. It's a smooth 80s R&B kind of approach. Old Chicago fans are wanting a classic rock approach that softens into pop, not an R&B approach that hardens into soft rock. And maybe both are right. The band plays too much like a rock band for Larry's vocal and Larry sings too much like an 80s pop/R&B singer for the band. They're both right and both wrong. It doesn't help that Bragg is out of key on a few spots and that he and Bill don't mesh perfectly. The chemistry is just lacking. This particular mix is less than the sum of its parts. Everyone on that stage is talented.

Totally agree. Larry Bragg's butchered this song. Horrible vocals and he clearly didn't know the words. If you don't even know the words you can't sing it believable. He was also a snob. Overrated. Bill is the clear standout. Thanks for watching and commenting

Larry is fine on this...as fine as anything he's done with Tower of Power. But admittedly him and this band isn't the greatest mix, simply because he's a soul singer and this isn't a soul band. We're also accustomed to hearing Peter Cetera, one of rock's truly unique voices. If it were TOP doing this tune and Larry singing it as he does here it would likely be - typical of him and TOP - great.

These kinds of songs are not Larry Braggs' wheelhouse. I never liked Bill Champlin's voice, he sounds like a whiny country crooner who sings with his jaw wired shut. But this collaboration is a train wreck. Larry Braggs sings out of tune 90% of the time on this. I wouldn't be surprised if the guys at Tower of Power gave him his walking papers, telling him "sorry dude, but you just can't sing in tune anymore, we're going to have to let you go."
