Mate, soak the Pistons in a tiny amount of MEK (Methyl-Ethyle Ketone), just enough to cover the crown. (make sure that shit doesn't get on your head gasket! It'll eat it.) When you are ready to empty it, flush the cylinders with water *Heavily*. Then keep the plugs out for purging, as usual. Then drain. Obviously, keep it super slow when oiling back up.

@peterfranco6610 would this free up the oil control rings?

This is fascinating mate! I appreciate all the work you've put as it's great info for the rest of us

@@ModorFix we actually met when we had the icy Mr2 meet at the beginning of last year. Mine was the Sable grey. Well I drove it to Lithuania and it was fine but shortly after I got home the engine started smoking like yours. I bit the bullet and went to Rogue for the swap, bloody expensive! Hopefully we can do another meet when all this C19 blows over, 20 odd Roadsters in convoy was a blast!

@@LupinYonderboy ah cool! That was such a blast! Yes we must defo do it again. Mine won't have any problems keeping up this time :)

Dunno if you've solved this or not but you may need a restrictor in your oil feed to your turbo. Check your IC piping for oil

Fair play, I know these engines have issues with the oil control ring holes (too small), thanks for trying out some options though - would be interesting to see how much this has cleaned up the engine if you pulled off the rocker cover to see if the cams and everything were cleaner.
@ModorFix4 жыл бұрын
Youre right, I should have done that. Just adds expense however, new gaskets etc. Might have to pull the rocker cover off at some point. Will give you a look if I do. The oil speaks in dividends however. Still golden!

Mine has started burning oil quite badly now. 2003 face lift with no pre cats and a full service history. Good job I baught a celica t sport a while back with a good 2zzge. Swap time soon I think

How many miles you at? So far so good in my 02 at 90k miles (knock on wood)

@@MatthewVanceMusic He's currently at 103k miles. I have the celica engine out and waiting on new seals from Toyota to make the 2zz last longer. Engine swap will start next week hopefully.

@@MatthewVanceMusic my swap is complete for now. I will make a better exhaust for it later on down the line. I just cut up and welded the celica exhaust. There is a video on my channel. It's not a good video but I'm no youtuber

Hey man, When I was doing my rebuild I soaked my pistons in a combination of diesel and atf fluid. I left it for days and even then had to physically scrape the piston rings clean and it was quite hard. I wish there was a way to degum the rings with the engine in, but honestly I don’t know of one. It’s about £350 for parts to do a soft rebuild, I’m sure there are plenty of folks the forum local to you that can give you a hand.
@ModorFix4 жыл бұрын
Hey John, thanks mate, I would rather build a lump or buy a low mileage non oil burner, would be easier. Try putting something caked in carbon in thinners for a few hours you will see the point of the exercise.
@jlfvanzyl4 жыл бұрын
Mod or Fix 😀 forgot to mention that this was after trying out a variety of thinners and jet fuel... when that stuff is caked in it really doesn’t like to let go! There are quite a few lumps (still in cars) in Copart..

great viewing as normal :) just out of interest how much oil have you used to date with all the changes :)

5 gallons of oil, 1 gallon of flushing oil, 6 filters and 1 supercharge. Oh and a 25litre drum of thinners.

Its probably burning oil because the pre cats have put ceramic through the engine via the egr this was a known issue on these cars.
@ModorFix4 жыл бұрын
Nope, took the cats and there was no sign of crumbling ceramic. These engines are known for the oil control rings sticking due to blockage of the drain holes in the pistons, due to poor maintenance. Toyota address this with bigger holes in the later 2006 cars.
@mathewwaugh17194 жыл бұрын
@@ModorFix Have you tried putting squirt of oil down the plug holes before you compression test it see if it jumps any higher as 120psi isn't a bad reading

@@mathewwaugh1719 I did and it jumped up to 160ish. Should have put that in the video really
