My 1zz has always burned about 500ml every 1000 miles, but since i put a turbo on it, the smoke looks a lot worse. I am thinking it is because of the incredibly short exhaust run, hence it looks worse now. Anyway, I don't really want to rebuild my engine, so i tried some of the best products on the market today! This might work for you if your engine isnt't too bad. Good practice to flush the engine at every oil change. Prevention is better than cure :)

Looks like head off time matey and fix the job properly. Saw you at national day, wish we'd of popped over for a chat, mine was a yellow MK3 with body kit and TRD replica rear wing on and bespoke seats with midship runabout logo on.

Good video! I really thought looking at the state of the oil after Liquid Moly it would've worked. Ah well, at least you tried!

Me too! The supercharge helped, but its just thicker. You're going to be shocked at what I do next :D

I think the reason they are known to consume oil is because the precats break apart and get sucked into the cylinders and scratches the cylinders to crap. I love your build! Im doing a turbo on my 1zz mr2 as well.

Thanks John, appreciate it. I am starting to reap the fruits of my labour now :) turned the boost up to 9.6psi yesterday and my gosh 😍 The precat issue normally destroys the engine. Oil burn is where it starts. Flaw in Toyota design of the holes in the piston. Hence upto a litre of oil lost over 1k miles is within tolerance lol!

@@ModorFix man I'm glad to hear that! I have had my fair share of fun with mr2, I replaced the engine that was in it when I bought it. Drove it for 6 months and decided I would turbo it.... and I'm about a month from getting it buttoned up

@@shyamnaz nope. It holds upto about 4k, just wanted to feel the power lol! Will be doing the clutch in coming weeks.

I have the exact same problem, after watching these probably best i pull out the engine and rebuild it :-(

Well.. mine is still running well. Occasionally let's out the odd blue smoke when idling. But never under load. Just drive it until it dies. Have you done a compression test? How much are you losing?

@@ModorFix i did, 120 ish on all cylinders... i think the previous owner didn’t service it. I just bought a complete engine, allegedly done 66k miles with all the ancillaries for £325 so Will try that. I have a few of these now (don’t ask!!) and i was tempted to get a turbo from turbo kits in USA. Doing it yourself what cost did it come too?

@@simontappenden4849 sounds good! 120 is what I had, but under boost its pulling hard. Worse case i will just drop a new lump in it too. I haven't added it all up yet, but I reckon about 1k maybe 1.5. Will do a "what did it cost?" Video soon :)

Is your turbo a ball bearing turbo ? if so are you running an oil restrictor ?

Nope, just a stock 200sx turbo. Journal bearing Garrett 2560. Behaves very differently in the mr2. I love it. A BB will only give you a 2-300rev advantage on spool up from experience, and a nice spinning sound. Apart from that no real other benefit imo. Expensive to rebuild too.

Liqui Moly flush is the best. I would not have run it for 20 mins though

If you think its good now, you should bolt a turbo to it! I cant rev past 4k as the clutch slips but all I can say is WOW

you shouldnt do the flush with liqui moly on a cold engine, make sure you warmed up the engine properly

I did it twice, and did you see the colour of the stuff that came out? Must have worked to some degree.

@@ModorFix well ofc the crap comes out of the engine but the engine has to be warmed up first. i always warm up the engine first, put the additive in and then drive it around slowly for 10 minutes, only revving to max. 2000 rpm. worked wonders

That's crazy! Rings were probably well and truly worn out/stuck down. Did you replace the engine?

@@ModorFix Nah I just did the irresponsible thing and stuck mineral oil in the engine instead running 15w 40 😂

@@jakeartis955 I am doing an update on the thinners soon. I got some pistons which were pretty full of carbon with stuck rings and left them in thinners to soak. 3 days then five days. Was supposed to be seven days but I forgot about it so I think it's been 10 days. I will reveal all in the video. I want to see if with time the thinners will eat away all of the carbon without agitation. Also my an update on compression test.
