The cape is the most out of place powerup in the entire Mario Franchise. The skill ceiling of that cape is through the roof, literally. And yet it was barely used in Super Mario World. It really seems like they had intended for the cape to play a bigger role at some point. But reverted to more traditional power levels and powerups.

it's almost the same, except a pow will kill anything it touches and also anything touching the ground, so a dive bomb is kinda like a pow that doesn't touch anything... it kills everything touching the ground

Great guide for the basics! I’m making a challenging level where you can optionally get a cape and want to make sure to account for any possible solutions the player may make. Have you considered a folllowup video showing how springs, moving platforms, and conveyer belts affect everything? I was also curious to see the effects of bouncing on enemies in float mode.

I was trying to fly as slowly as possible (in float mode) and noticed a weird mechanic. If you stop ascending while you have no momentum in the direction you're facing (you can have momentum in the other direction), interesting things happen. Mario will just sink to the ground if you don't touch the controls. You can press the opposite direction on the D-pad as frequently as you want; the annoying cape flapping sound will play, Mario will tilt upward, but nothing else will happen. He will still be descending and his speed will not be affected. You can get out of the purgatory by swooping down and up, of course. The easiest setup to see what I'm talking about is just to fly against a wall, or to fling yourself in one direction and turn around at the very last second (so that you continue moving in the other direction).

Smb3 tanooki its super easy, when you have pspeed and tanooki suit hold jump, and when youre at the end of going up just spam B and youll fall slower
