Franklin is very hard to write for being how powerful he is. You can't have him destroy Galactus then not be able to deal with Doctor Doom. That's why I love Johnathan Hickmans Fantastic Four story because it's very well written. I recommend it a lot.
@dallinfeatherstone2 жыл бұрын
This is genuinely the first time I've been interested in a Fantastic Four story. I don't love all the changes they've made to their origin, but overall, it definitely works better for long-form storytelling. I hope they take a decent amount from these issues when creating the Marvel FF movie. Maybe they can finally get it right lol. Good work Danny, keep it up!!
@mcduane712 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. I could get past the changes because I was so invested in this narrative. This would work perfectly as the basis for the plot of the MCU Fantastic Four trilogy. Obviously not a period piece like this, but keep the focus on the family dynamic, and Reed's determination on preventing Galactus.

it's called life story so I feel like you need someone who by the 2010s or 20's will retire or die also hard to do hulk or x-men stories justice without time travel given both days of the future past and Minstro are important parts of their comic book history now Avengers life story could work but I feel like it be hard to make the 2000's that much different from spiderman but then perhaps we expand on it instead

@Ashguy7332 жыл бұрын
Im not gunna lie, I felt like this story was kinda all over the place compared to Spider-Man Life Story. Like the theme of the FF is about family and about them exploring the universe together trying to make the universe a better place. I feel like that was tackled here, but they didn't do the Dr. Doom/Reed foil well enough in my opinion. They should have used Doom's origin as a means to explain why he wants to take over the world, regarding his childhood with his mother and his father, have Kristoff be a stand in for his son and his lover Valeria there and have her die of cancer or something, like have Doom be a genius that constantly has bad thrown at him that inspires him to ensure the world experiences no more suffering, but have him look at the world during the Cold War period and put Latveria as this contested zone of influence between the USSR and NATO and how he doesn't like being undermined by the great power dynamic for the sake of ideologies. All this happening till the end of the Cold War simultaneously while Reed has his family and adventures. I also would like to point out that even in the Lee/Kirby era, Reed does change near the end and appreciates Sue and everyone else, so this Reed is super focused on his work and ignores his family isn't always a 100% the case, I just felt like Russell leaned a bit too hard into that. Spider-Man life story kinda used its decades also to illustrate events from those eras within his history to support its story, and this comic didn't which I kinda was bummed about like Id have liked if the 60s was the coming of Galactus story, have Johnny and Crystal meet, but she dies, do a smaller version of this Man this Monster for the Thing and end it with Franklin being born. The 70s would involve more classic adventures and team ups with the X-men and Avengers maybe showcase Sue's encounter with the Psycho Man while trying to raise Franklin that gives her PTSD and have Reed caught between the Cold War politics, Johnny having a daytime/late night tv show, being a celebrity, but alone and missing Crystal and the Thing meets Alicia Masters and realizing she ages while he doesn't and end with him leaving the team near 79, because he wants to be with Alicia more in this time where nuclear annihilation could come at any moment. The 80s would be the introduction of She-Hulk replacing Ben, Sue turning into Malice from her PTSD, with Psycho-Man and have the team come together to fight him. Have Johnny connecting with She-Hulk, not on a romantic level, but more along the lines of the fact that she also is alone, but happy and learn what makes life easier to deal with alone and Reed learning to be a more stay at home father while working on projects that would solve world problems to alleviate Cold War tensions, only for the USSR to fall finally. I haven't figured out the 90s era, probably something along the lines of Valeria being born, the creation of the New FF with Hulk, Wolverine, Spidey and Ghost Rider, lean into Post Cold War Doom and him being the conflict with Reed more. Anyways I know this is a long detailing, but I just felt like Spider-man's adventures in life story were highlighted to explain his responsibility and love of those around him contrasting his villains who can't let go and bear no responsibility and I didn't feel this story did that, it just kinda went with the Galactus Trilogy, but not and it just kinda didn't feel like an FF story to me entirely.

Correction: I meant to say Zawandi’s brother is Black Panther, not she is Black Panther’s brother! Also just wanted to share if you want to read more Fantastic Four, Jonathan Hickman’s run is what made me a Fantastic Four fan, so I highly recommend reading that. Dan Slott’s current run is pretty good too. Even the original 1960s Stan Lee/Jack Kirby run is amusing and really started the whole Marvel Universe.

I got maybe 5 minutes into this video and decided I just HAD to buy this comic based on the premise you gave (plus the art was very much up my alley). Binged read the whole thing. It was so good. But also bitter sweet in a way. So used to the heroes never aging, always being alive, that it hit a little harder seeing that Johnny stayed dead, and the remaining three having to deal with threats with just them left. Came back to give this video its rightful watch (and like), and see your thoughts of the story.

I’m betting hard money they will use this to build the MCU FF. Just watching this solid breakdown and I’m like oh sheet this grounds them so well in history and the family dynamics are well done in a way that’s condensed with a zoom through flashes of their history. It makes it more accessible for newcomers and makes it that they don’t have to dive into the large body of work of the comics while still respecting the source material
