That second lick, no matter who plays it, Clapton, Hendrix, Vaughan, Page ( that's Danny), a big smile comes across my face and im away with the fairies for those few seconds. I've heard it's thousands of times but it still gets me right there.

I think this is one of the most practical and valuable guitar sites. The licks and backing tracks are really helping me formulate an idea on how to actually solo. It is just good fortune for me that stylistically I love everything that you do. Thank-you Danny!!

When I was starting out, I didn't bother much with Hendrix because I thought it would be too difficult and I didn't really get the extent to which it was blues-based. Thanks for putting me right only 53 years too late 😉
@DannyPageАй бұрын
It took me a while to get into Hendrix. When I started playing I was influenced by bands like Metallica, Bonjovi, guns n roses Joe satriani etc where the playing was produced and technical. I heard a live version of purple haze (I think it was) and it was out of tune, and because of that I didn’t relate to it. I wish I had listened to a studio song first as I would not have lost years of Hendrix influence. Such a great player in many many ways. You now have a great weekend of listening ahead of you….have fun.

Try learning the lead break from Wind Cries Mary and you'll see it's not difficult but it's an amazing guitar break. Hendrix thought and played outside the box.
@DannyPageАй бұрын
Great solo! We had to learn that one at the guitar institute in Acton London as part of a live performance workshop. Great song.

I still think that way: "love Jimi, but not for my lever of guitar playing"
@cbcacbca27 күн бұрын
@alecfraser1928 , although Hendrix used the pentatonic scale, like most rock guitarists of that time, I've never thought of him as a blues guitarist. To me, he went right outside the blues box and created very much his own style of lead and rhythm playing. If you learn the break from The Wind Cries Mary, you'll see what i mean.

Thank you for these great licks, that'll keep me going for the next week or so . What is that red Marshall that you have there?
@DannyPageАй бұрын
It’s a Marshall Mercury from the 1970’s. I think it was their budget amp of that time. Hybrid valve amp. Mine needs a new transformer as this one went pop!! Great sounding amp with the perfect 70’s tone.

Great lesson as usual but, I can't find the tabs on your "Lick Friday" page. I really like watching your tutorials with the tabs opened at the same time as it seems to help my aging brain remember the notes!!!

tell me, do you specifically analyze the faces that are simpler, more carefully, and then very quickly so that you cannot repeat
@DannyPageАй бұрын
Hi, I’m not sure I understand the question to honest. Places, or faces? Or boxes? Either way, working with boxes is a great way to unlock the fretboard and allows you to use the whole fretboard as a soloing playground. However, when soloing I now don’t really think of the boxes as experience with jamming and soloing has created pathways through each box. Hope that answers the question even if just a little. If not please elaborate further..
