If I had a nickel for every time a 90s sports team used a logo with a fire-breathing horse, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. (The other being the Calgary Flames) In all seriousness, it might still be too soon to hope for an original name for team 30, but the rumour is that "Las Vegas Villains" is in the process of being trademarked.

I liked the name Dallas Burn. I also liked the old logo. I think the new logo is really good. But I don't like it when MLS teams change their name. I find generic names like City FC ridiculous. I think in the mid-2000s MLS started to lose its identity, that's sad. I always liked the names of American teams. Jason Kreis is a legend. Note: The music in this video is too loud.

Outside of the obvious that Dallas has more teams in more popular sports. I think one of FC Dallas' biggest issues is the stadium. The fact that it is 30 miles from down town Dallas is kinda crazy to think about. Also, as we have seen with teams like the Chicago Fire, NY Red Bulls, and San Fransisco 49ers (another sport, but point still stands), not having a stadium in downtown is actually a huge problem in getting attendance up.

Definitely, I went to the Texas Derby vs Houston at home back in April. I live in Duncanville, a Dallas suburb that's 1 hour or more away from Toyota Stadium. While I'm fine driving that long, it does hurt my own abilities to be at the stadium week in week out

I have to agree from my experience visiting there last season. I’d flown in to see my team play FCD on the road because I have a friend who lives in Dallas, it made sense. While Frisco isn’t too bad a drive from Dallas (I’m coming from LA, so my tolerance for commutes is probably higher), it’s far enough to not feel like Dallas anymore. Nevertheless, it seems like Frisco is developing more and, that combined with a great stadium experience like the one I had, could lead to more attendance in the future. They have the nicest stadium staff of any sports stadium I’ve ever been to, btw.

I was raised in DFW and have since moved back and the honest reason for the lack of popularity is a combination of 2 things. 1st and the more important is the stadium location. It’s on the far outskirt of the metroplex and frankly farthest away from the demographic that is most interested in the sport and who could better afford to take their family to cheap sporting events. It also doesn’t help to have a completely uncovered stadium in Texas when the league season runs literally through the summer. The 2nd is the competition with other pro sports within the market as you described, which have always been more popular and are more centrally located for everyone. The problem with the Cowboys and Mavericks is it now cost a small fortune to take a family of 4 to go to. The Rangers and Stars are a little bit more affordable but for these reasons alone I know many people here who are getting more interested in driving up to Frisco for the $ of tickets alone. I also think the history and culture of player development will also help grow the sport if it were better marketed, Texans love to take pride in everything local. I was surprised to learn how little of my friends and colleagues knew that we had local players on the national team and playing in the World Cup they are all suddenly watching, lol. With all that said this is still a very shallow and plastic city, for the most part, the majority of the populace only cares or shows up to support teams actively having success. Even though the Dallas Cowboys always subvert that somehow year after year.

I think the biggest problem is something you touched on at the end of the video the stadium is ALL THE WAY out in Frisco. They are called FC. Dallas not Fc. Frisco yet the team really only caters to the rich folks in Frisco. Don’t get it twisted I love Frisco but damn is it a pain to go to the stadium

When I was a kid my youth soccer league named its teams after MLS so I played on the Burn. I thought it was hilarious that we had both Burn and Fire in our league and we would play each other. Also, I remember getting an issue of SI Kids in the mail the season Dallas rebranded and thinking "FC Dallas? What the heck". It blew my child mind that a team could forgo having a mascot

you hit on probably the main reason why the Burn rebranded, lack of investment. When they where the Burn, no one really cared outside of the main MLS office, once they became FC Dallas suddenly everyone is tripping over themselves to get a piece of them. Also the rebrand must have been a saving grace, not just for Dallas, but for the league as a whole if they renamed one of their titles after Lamar Hunt.

My first memory of the Dallas burn was when I used to play for my youth club in Marquette Park in Chicago, our team was the Dallas burn, My favorite uniform I played on till this day. My old memories of Dallas burn was seeing them play on TV when they had this player number 9 who was scoring alot for them at the time

I prefer the Americanized names. That's why in the battle to replace Sacramento, I'm rooting for Las Vegas. They not only have such a name, but, imo, it's great: the Las Vegas Villains! Thank you Danny for making a video on my team! Fuck yeah!!! And yeah I agree actually. FC Dallas over the years does well with making new talent and in the future creating stars. FC Dallas at the moment definitely need to focus on winning titles. US Open Cup, Supports shield, and for FUCK SAKE A MLS Cup and hopefully in the future win a CCL and maybe clubs World Cup. Now for this squad to win these cups it will still take a LOT of hard work of course but hopefully we can win more titles and have a bigger fan base grow and the hunt family can finally invest more into building a bit more seats for bigger attendance and maybe invest to signing another huge name since Hugo Sanchez or danielson probably.

Austin FC can bring in more fans because 1. their stadium is not all the way out in the suburbs 2. Austin is hipster capital of Texas and hipsters love soccer 3. Just like Danny said, FC Dallas is a soccer market, but they have a lot of other sports to compete with(Cowboys, Mavs, Stars, Rangers) while Austin FC is the ONLY pro sports team in Austin.

I think the "traditionalization" of names in MLS can be hit and miss. If you have a good badge and/or kit (and I think FCD & Atlanta United are examples of that), then it tends to work well. I think club need to stop limiting themselves to the FC/SC (and to an extent, United as well) designation. Looking squarely at San Diego here as they're already talking about whether to put FC before or after the city name. I think if they're going to go the "traditional" route in SD, Atletico San Diego would be better than just another FC.... ⚽

The problem with FCD Marketing Plan is that they've targeted suburban families rather than your die hard soccer fans. North Texas has plenty of soccer fans for Liga MX, La Liga, and EPL but not MLS. The Stadium location is also an issue with it being 45 minutes north of Dallas and 1.5 hours east of Ft. Worth.

100 % agree as an original fan I loved our colors, name, & badge our mascot was cringe but when he came charging out to start the game it got turned up but we always lost to the Wiz or the Rapids in the playoffs but I like the FC Dallas badge the hoops was ok but now we've even gone away from them I'm upset that they haven't paid homage to the Burn's old uniforms it's been hard to support the team we've had great moments this year we're better they've brought new player's but this team just isn't really in touch with it's fan or even promote the team enough I just think the field being so far from Dallas city or even the county North Texas SC is basically on point & that's there affiliate team FC Dallas has gone away from the heart of soocer country in the area that's why no one really cares teams like Austin & Houston just bring it plus our stadium needs serious shading but great video really enjoyed it especially you talking about the Burn

Every club without an FC or other European names are Portland Timbers, LA Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes, Philadelphia Union, Columbus Crew and New England Revolution. Also Columbus Crew used to put an SC on the name and brand. DC United are the only original club that have a European name since. FC Dallas is lame, but Dallas Burn is fire.

As a European, I find it weird you are even looking into this kinda thing, team names are team names, and unless it's your own team, there shouldn't really be a concern. I get that in America you are obsessed with branding and identity, but I've never even thought about comparing different team names in a league to one another. I’ve said it before but American teams trying to sound European is pretty pretentious. A lot of MLS teams now sound like something someone would call their EPL fantasy team. Traditional team monikers in Europe and South America generally have deep roots with the club. Calling a team FC or SC is fine if not a little uninspired but Real Salt Lake is horrendous. They clearly have no involvement with the Spanish crown so why are they called that? Sporting Kansas City is stupid if they don’t have other teams in different sports and even then is still pretty pretentious. Every expansion team that has called themselves United really doesn’t seem to understand that United is generally for teams that have merged with another club. The MLS is a far cry from the tinpot league it was back in the 90s and early 00s but I think trying to sound more European is holding them back. Focus on fixing other issues within the league and the US football system as a whole and then watch how things go from there. The leagues problems still exist and changing every club to FC or United won’t fix them.

I've gotta say FC Dallas is one of my least favorite teams in the league, so trigger warning ahead... I think the new logo is only a marginal improvement over the other, but still just okay. The name 'FC Dallas' is bland, which is fitting for a bland city (in my biased urban planning opinion), and the stadium, while soccer specific, is pretty lackluster, not to mention how far it is from downtown Dallas. Also, the ownership group seems unambitious, but someone could correct me if that's not the case. The only redeemable quality they have is that kick ass academy, but everything else about the team is just so average. Being average is not a good recipe to compete for fans in a sports town like Dallas

The real problem with FC Dallas is being in Frisco. Frisco is as far north of Dallas as Fort Worth is to the west. The only two options to get out to Toyota Stadium is tollway or going completely out of your way. Growing up in South Fort Worth and being a huge soccer fan getting to the Cotton Bowl was significantly easier because it was on the train line between the two cities. Gradually I’ve seen more and more fans and supporters leadership leave FCD, even myself stopped even trying to attend matches. Last time I stepped foot in Toyota Stadium was as a Timbers Army member, during the second leg of the Western Conference Finals in December 2015. I have since moved to the west coast and become more involved with LAFC, but until Dan Hunt is gone FCD will never get a single dollar from me.
