Dear Jon, In a lab environment or in packet tracer where there are two routers connected to each other back to back, it's solely up to you to decide which router's serial interface will provide the clocking (DCE end). In other words, it doesn't make any difference if you configure the left or right router to be the DCE. Hope the above helps you out.

if u wanna know whether the end is dce or dte u can go to d command line an from d priviledge mode u can give d cmd "show controllers serial port num" an check it

hey there.., i dont have my certiicate yet but trying to work on it.., ive been playing around with packet tracer.., but can you tell me how you decide on which end will the dce and dte be on...? this will help me alot

could you connect two routers by using the gig interfaces, Cuz iam using packet tracer and doesn't seem to be working, i set both interfaces with gateway ip address it still shows the line is down even when i have configured static routing
