the history attached to that place is immense, i was in there in the early nineties and Jean Claude Van Damme was sat at the table opposite mine, with his shirt off and he was really drunk!

Great interview segment, Alison ! Our cash register behind the bar at The Gardenia in Hollywood is the same - 1944. There's a steel plate on the front of it on the right side, just above the cash drawer, that has serial numbers along with the year date. Still operates fine today. They rarely break down. And there's still people in town that can repair them. The original NCR's - National Cash Registers.

surprised they were making cash registers during the War, maybe war production caught up to demand by 1944, and FDR ok'd sone domestic/non War use manufacturing of goods

Don Knotts had a troubled childhood, was introverted and very self-conscious about his physical size as a youth. I am pleased to report he overcame all of that.
