Grunt can return, he is young unlike Wrex and everyone love him almost just as much... ...Also Liara isn't just older by a mere single century, but more like by five centuries and that is at very least! ...Nobody else can return based on their lifespans and ages, well except for Edi if you count her, butshe is unlikely to survive the events of the trilogy's conclusion if we were to assume Destroy ending is taken as canon so there's that... ...But nobody said they could not have been cryogenically frozen for several centuries, like the Andromeda Initiatives were when they left Milky Way, so...

I'm not too worried about all this. I know for a fact that if ME4 takes place anything more than 1 week after the events in London, then the whole game will be pointless, because ME3 was riding on the "save the galaxy and Earth before the damage done is too much, while there is still something left to save" logic. And no ME fan would accept not having the original squad mates, or not wiping out every single Reaper in the conventional way. And after CDPR's Cyberpunk catastrophe, which Bioware will look at as an example, and after Andromeda and Anthem, Bioware will be desperate for a win. And thats exactly what we need regarding ME4 - we need Bioware to be desperate for the game to be flawless.

The fight isn’t over, the leviathan’s still held the same beliefs as the reapers did and something tells me they’re the next antagonist on a severely weakened Milky Way galaxy with more primitive civilizations. The stakes would be higher and Shep lives. Having your progress set here only to not have a conclusion to their story seems pretty cliché as “everyone dies.” I’m alright with losing some squad mates for newer ones, but I think carrying over all the buildup for a conclusion to Shep’s journey would be the play. Whether he’s the character you’re playing or a side character/new squad mate and fights alongside you. Just something that let’s all of us know that our progress does continue and will have a fair conclusion to “pass the torch” sort of speak.

This is what I was thinking. Everyone seems to believe the game is like 600 years in the future just based off a few wrinkles and also because Liara is one of few that would still be alive by then. But its probably just because she's one of the only characters that has no chance of dying in the OT. So to keep it consistent with everyones playthrough, obviously they're gonna put Liara in the trailer.

I just had a thought while listening to this. I believe the Normandy does have stasis pods. Judging by the end scene the crew gets the Normandy airborne. Without mass relays the crew would have to go into cryo sleep until they could reach the nearest advanced system. This is how the squad could still remain alive in the next game.

Calling the game ME4 suggests it's a direct sequel to ME3 just like ME2 was a direct sequel to ME1. You can't really have a direct sequel where the main character is absent fro the story.

I just think it loses impact that shepards sacrifice meant nothing and they're just gonna revive him, not only that it locks out over half the fanbase. And this would basically only make one ending canon. I think Grunt may be leading Urdnot by the time Wrex dies. He should be around. I also think the nexus has a mass relay. Another character we could encounter alive is EDI, though maybe not in the destroy ending.

Assuming this game takes place 600 years after the OT and tries to connect both it and Andromeda (I think it’s been hinted at to oblivion at this point) the only OT squad mates I could see being alive (organically speaking) is Wrex, Grunt, and obviously Liara.

Wrex was already kinda old by krogan standarts by the time the OT took place. I don't know how much a krogan lives in average, but he could or could not be dead by the time ME4 happens. I would prefer he alive, since he could be that old wise man that guide the new guys to glory before his last breath, kinda like Obi Wan in A New Hope.

@@MarceloZ2 The oldest Krogan we know is Drack who is around 1420, according to Drack he doesn't have that much time left, but he is also mostly prosthetic which definetly takes it's toll. My guess is 1500-1600 could be their life span but it's just my guess so take it with big grain of salt.

I think bring back a fair amount of the previous team mates, alongside a few new ones, maybe more if we can interact with previous characters. There is no reason they can't account for at least the majority of our previous choices if they take their time with it. Plus I would like to see more of Legion, Jarvik, Kasumi etc. If BioWare can bring back their fanbase with nostalgia from the old ME series, I think they have a better chance at an Andromeda sequel as a standalone from the original triology.

While I'd love as well the return of all of them, for a couple of them it seems impossible: Javik at the end of 3 says that if he survives the retake of earth he'll go on his homeplanet and suicide, legion is already dead and kasumi/james/other human teammates wont live long lifes like the aliens do, and everything on this mass effect seem to hint at a timeskip... but that's just my opinion, only time (and bioware) will tell. Honestly I just hope it wont be as bad as andromeda story-wise.

Ryder was the most irritating character especially with dialogue options. Even if they didn't bring back any original characters I would rather them bring back Shepard and have a powerful storyline than some half arsed writing that's supposed to be a one size fits all barely cannon ending

I think a huge reason they released a remastered is to take your choices from the original to bring to this new one (potentially). Like different ending or choices with squadmates, could be a really interesting concept considering they would need to take every choice from your remastered files and change multiple choices or outcomes in this new game for it to work. I think its still possible considering how many people are interested in Mass Effect again.

This video was awesome! One thing worth mentioning is that Bioware generally operates its relationship with its heroes on the basis of leaving the story of a given hero ends when their story ends. The Warden's story ends, sans a letter. Hawke's story ends, sans a cameo. Etc etc. I'm willing to bet that the story of Shepard is over, since we played it to its conclusion. And as mentioned, if there's a 600 year time skip, most are dead. I'd love to see, for example, a statue of Garrus and Tali on Rannoch or the Citadel, and meet their possible descendants. But reintroducing the actual companions of Shepard, a character who has finished their story, all reappearing? I somehow don't think that's likely. Wrex, Grunt and Liara would make good Cameos. EDI could appear too, since she is a computer. Maybe Zaeed, since he's the only one who makes it out alive.

It would be cool if the new Mass Effect takes place a few decades in the future and we have Shepard as an Admiral giving you quests like Hackett does in previous games. Also have Hackett as a new human Councilor, Primarch Victus as new Turian councilor and Matriarch Aethyta as a new Asari councilor. Have the new councilors actually listen to you unlike the old ones.

I think it will be something like wrex and liara goes on a quest to find Shepard's body (post ME3) finds him unconscious badly injured but alive puts him in cryogenic stasis and (maybe some of the others decide to go into stasis too?) someone from andromeda returns to earth after discovering relic tech that can get them across galaxies faster to warn the milky way of a new big bad enemy they run into or the reapers are involved somehow

I don’t know the lore as much as probably all of you because I just started playing mass effect when the legendary edition came out. I want a sequel continuing right where 3 left off. Playing as Shepard. There is still no closure. If it’s a stand alone I want the option of choosing my race and having the game be more of a true rpg and open universe.

What I got from the trailer for the next game was andromeda was just launching so it could be a game set right after the reaper war and if so it could be a year after or up to say 10 years. If so then we have a larger chance of the old crew being available. I doubt wrex would be there if he survived because he's a clan leader now. Grunt has a higher chance. We know Liara is there. Miranda made mention that due to her genetic material that she'd likely live much longer than a normal human will. Garrus is another fan favorite so he could return. Jacob likely won't because in ME3 he mentions he's having a baby with someone so he likely retired and settled down. If Ash survived virmire then maybe she and James get together (as hinted they like each other at the party in citadel DLC) or if Kaiden survives he might return. Jack might but she'll probably also have matured even more than what we saw in ME3. Samara is in her final stages or matriarch stage so we might or might not see her. The VA for Zaeed sadly has passed away so there is very little chance we'll see him. going with the destroy ending means that EDI will not be there as she was likely destroyed along with the geth and reapers which made me sad for Joker. I wouldn't know about Javik because really I didn't much care for him. Kasumi could make an appearance as well being she's another favorite mostly because people wanted to romance the skilled thief. Tali is a Fan and Dev favorite so if she's able to return then she likely will, plus we saw on the poster mentioning of Geth and quarian so if there's a story about them then people will expect the 'Geth expert' Tali to make an appearance being she is the most beloved member of the Normandy crew for her geeky, shy girl behavior. So there is a chance that we could see the old crew simply for bioware to truly end that series off with a really big bang. Like a true final mission ending with what happens to each crew member after it all. And if they do then it will be like a DMC 5 where the game series returns for the old fans and sends off with a big finale making a big impact.

It could also be that some of our squad mates signed up for a second wave of colonists from the Milky Way to Andromeda. Would be a major coincidence and need a fair helping of suspension of disbelief, but could be a possible way for them to be alive. Arriving in Andromeda a fee years to a decade after the first wave, and helping establish things there/create a mass relay to facilitate near-instant travel between galaxies.

If we play as Shepard again, I can only imagine them bringing back Tali, Garrus, and obviously Liara. They could write in some reasons for this, such as: - They freeze Shepard because they're in a bad state after the destroy ending, maybe they need some functional geth/reaper tech to get Shepard working again because they're basically half cyborg now anyway. I remember they were gonna use the Geth to rebuild Shepard in ME2 before they scrapped it, maybe they brought that back. Liara has already gone far for Shepard before, she'd 100% do it again. - They freeze Tali/Garrus because the Mass Relays aren't working and they're running out of dextro supplies and/or they're the romance option and want to be with Shepard when they wake up. They could also freeze Tali because she's a Geth expert and want to use her to get Shep/The Geth working again, Liara could be collecting the supplies while she sleeps and/or waking her periodically for input. And if they bring Tali they gotta bring Garrus too, it's The Law lol. Tali also has her own reason for wanting the Geth back besides Shepard, since the Geth were supposed to help the Quarians with their immune systems and fixing up Rannoch. - Liara is obviously in the game, so no explanation needed. I just wonder whether she'll take more of an Anderson role or be an actual squad mate again. As for where the cryo pods come from, they probably have Javik's pod somewhere and know where a bunch more of those pods are (Eden Prime & Ilos) Also Ark pods and I think Jack was in cryo in prison, so they're not super uncommon. I'm aware this is a weak ass theory, but I want my shep and dextro squad mates back! EDIT: Also Grunt if he survived, he's young as hell in ME2/ME3 so its entirely possible he'll be back.

My thing is, if I'm playing as Shepard and I don't see the Vakarian-Shepard-Zorah trio, I ain't having it. (Not that it's up to me to decide, but I honestly don't like the idea of the Cryo-Frozen Shepard theory where the rest of your crew is dead except for maybe Liara and Grunt). But if I have to play as a completely new character where things are more tied to Andromeda than the original trilogy in terms of characters and squadmates, then I would at least like a homage to the original trilogy by having an in-depth playable intro as Shepard, where you get to see what happens with Shepard and Co. after the Reaper War based on your decisions from the original trilogy. I don't want any of that end credit slideshow stuff from the ME3 ending.

So something like, let's say if you survived and romanced Ashley then you would wake up in an apartment on Earth. Walk around found some things like old pictures with Shepard and the crew, medals etc. and Shepard would say something about them, remembering his past, friends etc. And then he would let's say look out of the window, you would see Earth rebuilt, ships flying around and then camera would turn to the sky, focus on stars and words let's say "635 years later" would appear and suddenly you are with Ryder or new protag? Personally I really like this idea

I am honestly fine with losing some of the direct ability to speak with the old crew. I think we all need to give BioWare some rope on building another epic story or trilogy that allows them to build and expand on what made Mass Effect so amazing. I would love to see different races as the playable character and some of the deeper and next-gen style interaction and choice systems. As long as they don't cyberpunk/no mans sky us I am fine waiting for something that is truly another masterpiece.

If we're jumping to the future, I want some kind of visual prologue or something that tells us all about our friends we left behind and won't be seeing again (cause they're dead obvi). I'd be perfectly fine with that. If we don't get anything, I think a lot of people will be aching for some information on what happened.

I think it would be interesting if the old squadmates aren't around, but we have to figure out what even happened to them because most people don't remember what happened to them or where they went after the Reaper War. It would add a sense of sorrow to the story.

@@volrogue Tali got to return to her home world, legion sacrifices himself for peace, wrex gets the genophage cured and starts repopulating his species, thane gets to make amends with his kid, Jack finds peace and becomes a teacher, mordin sacrifices himself to cure the genophage he created, grunt sacrifices himself to save shepherd, and shepherd sacrifices himself to save the Galaxy. If you can play the arc where Tali returns home without crying that's a problem with you and not the game.

I think it would be interesting if you could transfer your save from Mass Effect 3 just like you could through the original trilogy. Maybe that’s how the game could decide who lives and dies. It would be difficult, sure, but they’ve done it before.

Considering that the krogan in the geth crater poster looks like Wrex, I'd assume it takes place some time in the immediate future after the Reaper War. As for Andromeda's role in ME4, I can't really imagine it will be relevant in any way since there is no relay link between the Milky Way and Andromeda. The Initiative would have to make the 600 year journey back to the Milky Way in order to be relevant to ME4's story, which we know is impossible since that would make Liara 1300 years old, several centuries older than the maximum lifespan of an asari. So, as you say, at most I think BioWare will acknowledge Andromeda in ME4, the same way Andromeda acknowledged the original trilogy.

The old squadmates should simply get referenced and nothing more. We can't overrely on their characters, along with Shepard as a concept, to continue the Mass Effect Franchise forever. If ME is going to get better and start something new, or simply build off the old, we need to move forward with something new.

I hope not, ME5 should be a game that leads into a new trilogy tbh. One with brand new characters to fall in love with, each unique in their own way as it was with ME2. But like ME2 it would be fine if only like a couple OG squad mates return, like the rumours of Wrex and the fact Liara is obviously gonna play a decent role in the game. But no, quite literally it’s time for someone else to have their chance in the spotlight. And with a new team/friends. Shepard and the majority of the OG team had their time, as much as I love them all, it’s time for someone else.

We might see the crew members and Shep if they use the Cryo Pods from MEA. Liara and Wrex could be the ones staying awake during the time jump to wake the rest of them when the right time comes. That would be a nice reference to MEA.

If we don't get a sequel to Andromeda I'm hoping through ME4 we find out some of the secrets of Andromeda that they never released DLCs for, like exactly who the benefactor was. They could wrap up most loose ends without having to time skip which, in my opinion, would be best. Personally I want the band back together, Shepard yanked off retirement on Rannoch with Tali ready to stamp out a resurgent Cerberus that has infiltrated Earth's government and military.

IF the timejump is used for the setting and the "best" ending is canonized, Liara, Wrex, & Grunt are possible as living cameos or crew members. Also Miranda could live a lot longer than predicted. Also cryo storage is used in ME:A that is an option however unlikely. What does the most likely preset for Mass Effect Next look like? What about using ME:LE and A as import saves ala Inquisitions world state importor? What do you think the likelihood is?

What if the next Mass Effect gave us the option to choose the origin of our protagonist (human, asari, turian, quarian etc.), and get a recap story of what happened after Shepard "pushed the button" (choice carried over from ME3 via an online "storybook" akin to Dragon Age Keep). Based on which species your protagonist is, you get to hear the stories of your fellow heroes (let's say Tali if your protagonist is quarian, Garrus if your character is turian, or any of the human squad members if your character is human), and what they did after ME3's ending. What would have been cool is if the told stories varied based on which species the player picked. As an asari, you will instead get the story told by Liara, as she will be a central character in the upcoming game. Not only will this give the player a lot of replayability, but also the freedom of choice. What if your playable character is a historian, aiming to document the events of the Reaper War, and meets up with fellow historians from the different species. Effectively making up a crew as you go along recruiting others to join the cause.

The post reaper galaxy is ripe for storytelling and I hope they don’t waste it. Starting the game many centuries after the war means you pass up experiencing the huge outcomes from your decisions in me3 like curing the genophage if canon, the quarians on rannoch and potential geth from outside the galaxy, salvaging reaper tech, what is left of Cerberus and earth, and your crew. I guess they are either planning to have us observe and help fix the galaxy post war, to show us the outcomes that way, or throw us into the future and see how the drastic changes have become the present, and history.

Ok so here's what I would like IF we play as Shepard. First 1/4 of the game is getting back into the swing of things. No Joker. No Normandy. We get Steve in a smaller craft able to run FTL because its smaller or uses space magic (i don't really care how its done), to run political "check ins" since the Mass Relays are being worked on and the Citadel is still under repair. Since we were the ones who brought the galaxy together, this makes sense. All crewmates other than your love interest will not join you, and you can have a dialog option to not have them join either since they will be dealing with whatever. As you explore and familiarize yourself with the new systems, you realize something is going on with the dark energy plotlines with Tali and the game picks up from there. If we don't play with Shep, I would like cameos from the older squad but they should take a more background role like Wrex. Plotline still working with the dark energy thing and we have Liara on info and Tali or other Quarians for expertise.

If it's at least 100 years after Mass Effect 3, then we can expect to see Liara obviously, perhaps Wrex if he isn't too old by krogan standards. Grunt definitely, he's the absolute youngest squadmate in the whole Mass Effect series and he's krogan to boot. Very slim chance, but maybe Miranda, she did say she was genetically engineered to be better than an ordinary human, which includes a doubled life expectancy. She and her sister could probably live for 250 years. EDI is another possibility, as a artificial intelligence/gynoid she doesn't age like an organic would and is functionally immortal, probably a slim chance we'll see her hough. Everyone else is likely deceased if this is 100 years later.

EDI can't. Let me remind you that the teaser shows a broken Relay. Not a repair. In Control and Synthesis, Reapers repair all Relays. Canon Destroy, all AI are dead. In ME3, Wrex says he is 700 years old.

So something I would be happy with, in the good destroy ending Shepard survives we get a bunch of time skips of how they rebuild and what not, in my head no doubt they find shepherd among the rubble, we see a few scenes of OG shepherd living out his days with a love interest, happy ending all sweet, then year's later the geth survived as they where mby out of range of the relays and now they want revenge for being destroyed, so it's possible that the citadel kept Shepard's DNA, and they tank breed a new shepherd to deal with the threat, it would be cool

Honestly...the only squad mates we can be sure to see - that is if they survived the original trilogy - are Liara (probably now as a 700 year old Matriarch), Grunt and maybe Wrex. Depending on how old Krogan can really get....and if they survive long enough to get to old age. Wrex was already old in the first Trilogy...so if he does appear he would be truly ancient by how...and probably a heavily respected Shaman. That is, if he is not the Krogan Emperor. As for Grunt... he is young in the trilogy...he he'd have no problems at all surviving 600 years, as long as he doesn't fall in a battle in the meantime. If Wrex actually is dead from old age, then I would not be surprised if Grunt is the next Krogan leader, having taken the position from Wrex. Which would make for an interesting reunion...seeing as how Shepard was part of his krant and therefore one of Grunts most trusted allies...not to mention former warlord whom Grunt once served under as a subordinate. (That's gonna raise a few eyes in the future when Grunt tells stories of their old...now near ancient battles) Other than those three...I guess ADI could be rebuilt again. Maybe Joker rebuilds her. Possibly even Legion...if Tali rebuilds him. Though they would probably not be the same if that happens. How old can Javik get? If he has a lifespan similar to an Asari, he might also be possible...that is if he hasn't committed suicide to join his people. Other than that though...I think we are all out of luck. Still...a chance to simply see Liara and the Krogan again would be well worth it... especially if Liara just happened to be our love interest in the original trilogy. Who knows...we may even have a blue daughter running around by the time Shep wakes up again.

You hit the major sticking point for the next game. WHEN. If it incorporates the crew from Andromeda, pretty much every character in the original trilogy will be dead, with the exception of Liara, Grunt, and maybe Wrex. Personally, I still think the next game will be placed shortly (10 years or so) after the Reaper war, there will be plenty of story and chaos to work with, as well as give the game fans some service by bringing back some of the old crew. Imagine most of the original crew from ME3, being introduced to a brand new commander (the player). You would have a steep hill to climb, no matter what your service record, to get into their good graces, while trying to fill the shoes of Shepard.

To me, Mass Effect is Shepard, Liara, Garrus and Tali. If I'm allowed to be greedy, bring Wrex/Grunt, Joker and the Virmire Survivor. I would say Anderson, but I think he's pretty canonically gone. It seems the messaging coming from BioWare is that they understand what we loved from the trilogy that wasn't present in Andromeda, and for me, that's Shepard, Garrus, Tali, Liara.

One possibility is that Shepard's crew underwent cryosleep for some reason - like, they needed to go to the Andromeda Galaxy, for some reason. But personally, I want as little reference with the Shepard arc as possible. I see a serious risk that the franchise will become stale if it latches too tightly to Shepard, and not the world.

I have a theory/fanfiction about keeping the original crew and Shepard alive to be reunited, but it's a stretch so hear me out. By some freak accident involving the mass relays being blown up during the destroy ending, possibly hypercharging them with dark energy or overloading with eezo, Joker and the Normandy crew winds up on the uncharted planet we saw in the ME3 ending. One final jump made by this mass relay in it's dying moments resulted in a launch unlike anything seen before. This new planet is actually all the way in Andromeda and they were shot 600+ years into the future without having aged a day due to time relativity going into chaos while the relay was trying to chart a course. This phenomenon would be considered a complete enigma and a miracle of science that Liara would be forced to study. The new story could involve Shepard being frozen back in the milky way ala Captain America, the alliance and milky way at large assuming him and his crew all dead. With the help of the Andromeda Initiative whom Liara was already acquainted, the Normandy crew is able to use their cryogenic technology and the Pathfinders' newly discovered technology within the Meridian and chart a somewhat quicker course back to their home galaxy. Liara stays unfrozen during the several century trip to manage the cryopods of Shepard's crew (as well as some homesick people and curious Angarans) and to conduct research into the phenomenon they all experienced. This would explain why she looks older in the teaser trailer. Time relativity, instantaneous travel, leaping from not just system to system, but across entire Galaxies? A lot of hypothesis to document. When they arrive back to the Milky Way, they also assume Shepard has to be dead after so much time has passed, and so many of them go their separate ways trying to navigate life in this strange future milky way that they barely recognise. Garrus tries to find his place in C-Sec on a earth-run galactic government, Tali finds that Rannoch has been reclaimed by the Quarians and now she alone is stuck in her suit, and so on. But Liara, as the former-shadow-broker, is diligent and stubborn. Not wanting to believe it, she extensively studies documentation about Shepard's whereabouts after the crucible is destroyed, files talking about how his remains had never been found, and secret files about failsafes in the Lazarus project such as augmented cryogenic freezing amplification for preservation in the event of near-death. The Illusive Man's faith in Shepard as a heroic and almost mythical figure transcended almost a millennia. He wanted him alive long after he died. Liara, possibly acting on blind faith with only whispers of evidence, starts recruiting for the Shepard Rescue Party. She believes his body remains somewhere in statis. Most people view her as a religious nutjob, as the idea of Commander Shepard has now been baked in folklore and myth. People scoff at her attempts at recruitment for what sounds like a scam. But some, particularly certain species new to the Galaxy, consider it as an exciting historical venture. She calls up Garrus, Tali, Kaidan; anyone that was on the trip back with her. Every member of the crew is so disillusioned and uncomfortable by the galaxy which has become so far removed from what they know, and they all agree that there's only one thing that can make this galaxy feel like home. The original human Spectre, the original trailblazer and the original leader that pushed each of them to fight or embrace the unknown: Commander Shepard.

interstellar space travel the earlier you set off doesn't necessarily mean you'll get where you want to be earlier. because advances in science can mean faster ways of traveling. i hope that could be used somehow but i guess it's not very likely.

I would love to have a geth squadmate once again, and etc etc. As for Garrus, Tali, I would enjoy seeing them getting entire appereances for obvious reasons but not being squadmates. Liara is obviously gonna be one (or even playable potentially at one part of the story, who knows) Kaidan or Ashley I am not expecting much them to being done, but I can see characters like Miranda, Jack, Grunt also having cameos or appereances once again. Jacob can honestly be written off or died. Thane would be cool regardless if we got a flashback or a reference! Suicide Mission wise everyone surviving will be most likely written like that, along with genophage cured/wrex surviving to be fairly honest. And I would enjoy a reference and see somehow Mordin again too! And I do think yes, Shepard should be obviously referenced and having statues of her/him and also inside the game. Would be nice to get more closures for the beloved characters. Do not point out or exclude any character since the potential of flashbacks they all could easily show up.

Wrex &/or Grunt could possibly return if they survived. The rest would be long gone due to their lifespans. If they incorporate Andromeda; PeeBee would be alive still, which could lead to interesting interactions between her & Liara.

I would love to see Garrus and Tali but unless they have been frozen for 600 years on the ark, or something like that I don’t think we will. But I’d love BioWare to acknowledge them in like a character who is their direct decedent. Like I can imagine Garrus great great grandson being in the game and his heard how his great grandfather overcame the hatred of the first contact war and saved the galaxy together and wants to join their squad.
